    In Texas, if you don’t wash it once a day you will be a greasy mess. I sometimes wash twice as I am outside a lot in the heat. In the one or two months of winter, I can go a few days. Always use beard spec wash, different brands strip more than others. Some don’t clean as good but have good smells. I don’t see the big difference until my beard gets over 6 inches. I never have used a conditioner, use oils and butters after washing and style it

    I wash my beard every day in my morning shower, gentle beard wash except for 1-2 days a week when I might use a stripping wash. Always apply oil to my damp beard after the shower (I vary the oil from time to time), then brush into style. Depending on what I'm doing that day, I might follow up with a beard balm for some extra styling and hold. At night, I moisten my beard and apply beard butter before bed. All of these things seem to work well for me, and if I ever skip part of the routine, I can tell the difference.

    When washing my beard I tend to go by feel, if my beard feels super Itchy I use beard oil if still itchy I know I need to wash it, I also take the environment into consideration if I went for a hike and was sweating or was outside on a hot day and was sweating , I wash my beard. When it comes to washing your beard it is personal preference but let your beard tell you when it needs a wash and take the environment into consideration( example: indoors working on a car or outside running), over time you will quickly figure out what I need to be washed feels like vs add beard oil . if you don’t do it already start adding beard oil after the shower, I believe Dan has mentioned how important it is to add a good beard oil after you get out of the shower in one of his videos, it was the best advice I ever got.
    Side note if you are using a beard wash like every man jack for example you can’t wash more then once a week because of how stripping it is, so maybe that is were the myth of should only wash beard once or twice a week came from, not sure if that is true but I have suspicions. Now with so many good beard products on the market you should be able to find one that will do what you need.

I know some women who hate beards because their guy didn’t wash more than 1-2 times a week and it grossed them out, and I still see people on places like Reddit saying they only wash once a week (not a stripping wash usually).
    So, really happy to see you talk about this often. With gentle beard washes out there we should definitely be cleaning the beards often, at the very least as often as you sweat (exercise) or work. Thank you for these vids

    I’m a bit confused on the conditioning part. So you should wash your beard daily but not condition your beard daily? I though that both processes go hand-to hand, resulting in conditioner being the product that moisturizes and adds vital natural ingredients to your beard after you wash it 🤔

    Thank so much Dan for the videos you put out. I have checked the pH levels on all my beard washes, currently my go-to for a daily gentle is Doctor Nicks pH5.9, for a stripper I use Honest Amish at 8-10 pH, in general I wash twice/wk with Doctor Nick product, then strip about every other week or as needed. In between I use Doctor Nicks Shelter in Face sanitizer.
    When I strip my beard I do use conditioner, but I try to keep it off my skin and just work it into my beard whiskers (aprx 8”lg), as I recall one of your vids you stated conditioner will clog your skin pours. Thanks for the history lesson, love it, similar to the history of Craft Beers!

    Seven Potions beard wash kinda feels stripping when I use it, and I don’t get the squeaky clean feel from Johnnie Rays beard wash bar which makes me feel like it could be more daily, until you said it should only be used once or twice a week because of its ph. (Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe you may have said Johnnie Rays beard wash bar has a ph of 7?) Would you happen to know what the ph of Seven Potions beard wash is? Thanks Dan, and I will definitely be sharing this video with some of my other bearded brothers from another mother! Lol! Happy holidays to you and your family and thank you for all of your shared knowledge, hard work, and research you do!

      @DanCBearded  Рік тому +2

      Seven potions is certainly a daily wash, unless something has changef. Feel of washes can be impossible to really tell because it greatly depends on your water table. A gentle wash can feel stripping in some water and vice versa. All comes down to hard vs soft water. And different ingredients react differently so we can’t even make general rules like hard water is more stripping feeling.
      Water based is so complicated lol

    @solomonbarburas9518 Рік тому +1

    Ok so I'm curious, if a gentle wash is made with KOH and oils, isn't that saponification as well? I know that what is important is the ph, but I'm curious if the saponification itself is harmful or just the high ph.

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Рік тому +2

      Great question! The key is the lye reaction in that process. With soaps you will often find Potassium Hydroxide. The key is the pH, that’s what matters the most. But understanding why is super interesting!

    • @solomonbarburas9518
      @solomonbarburas9518 Рік тому +1

      @@DanCBearded well I'm asking because i saw potassium hidroxide in gentle washes too, and other than the fact that it's a diluted soap paste, i didn't see anything different. Look at the LCW for example, it's water, oils, potassium hidroxide and aditives. So there must be saponification. Thoughts on this?

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Рік тому +2

      There is, but it’s not the pure potassium hydroxide (you don’t find hydroxide on the LCW ingredients). It’s pretty much the cousin of Castile soap. Which can be harsh, unless mixed properly with the right blend. I have video on that actually.

    • @solomonbarburas9518
      @solomonbarburas9518 Рік тому +1

      @@DanCBearded sry, not trying to argue, but on the LCW ingredients they list the name of the result of mixing potassium hidroxide with oils. Like with coconut oil( potassium cocoate which is obtained by saponification of the coconut oil using potassium hidroxide). Not saying all this to attack or argue with anyone but I'm genuinely curious and i did a lot of research on these things. So at the end of the day, is potassium hidroxide both bad and good? Yes, the ph is key, but if KOH is bad, than most washes even the gentle ones such as LCW that contain it, wouldn't they be bad? Or is it not bad if used correctly? Again, if any of my wording looks argumentative or aggressive i promise it's not with intent, I'm just not native at englisn and I've been told i sound aggressive in text

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Рік тому +1

      Never said bad, please listen to the video again. I believe I literally say it’s not bad lol and yes again, pH is key!
