This is an older video I went back and edited as well as fixed up abit. I cut a portion from the middle as I had made the mistake of not doing proper research and assuming that the "Thomas Comes Home" clip was made my Mattel. However as I now know and feel stupid for not realizing, such was made by TheUnluckyTug! So more points off for Mattel and 10 more to the fandom.

The Thomas Franchise is basically fan-created at this point. Which is a good thing. It's just sad when fans can make much better content with a couple people and time compared to a huge company with a budget if you catch my drift.
I know right! We (TTTE FANS THAT CARE) should just get a crap ton of money together start up our own animation company or whatever and just BUY TTTE from mattel and make it great again!
I agree and in some ways it's a huge shame. I have seen countless talented UA-camrs and voice actors making fanmade TTTE content (like the Trainz series) and it blows me away. Like it's fanmade but the storytelling, character development, voice acting and even music recreations are OUTSTANDING and makes you think "wow and this was only made by a fan or two?" The sad thing is, they won't get any money or recognition for this, it's all going into Mattel's pockets and it will never be officially canon. But at the same time, if Mattel hadn't degraded the series, we might not have got this great fan content. Or we would have but it would never have blown up into such immense popularity. It's very much a double-edged sword, because I love the fan content, but I also hate seeing what Mattel is doing to our childhoods :/

Fun fact : the fact that they added rivets on Thomas's tanks actually make it less realistic as the real E2 tank engines had welded tanks NOT riveted tanks.

One thing I like about the CGI series, is any episode involving Victor.
He's one of the best characters to be made by someone who isn't from the OG team.

You should’ve toasted them on how they shrunk Oliver in the CGI series. He went from one of the tallest engines in the show to the size of a narrow gauge engine.

I wouldn’t blame Mattel in its entirety, as that would be unfair. Blame the group of people who green-lit this.
I say that because Mattel is capable of making quality items. Just look at how they’re treating brands such as Masters Of The Universe, Jurassic World, Cars, and Minecraft.
It’s less the entire company, and more-so the people in charge of the Thomas division.
Mattel after season 25 inevitably fails needs to just sell the franchise to a company that actually cares. After season 21, what was the point of holding on to the brand, they’ve been putting in more money than they have been making from this show for the past 5 years and I will never understand why they still hold on to it.

I’d keep the Andrew Brennar Era level of CGI, remove the bouncing.
And hire ACTUAL FANS to write for this show, such as Victor Tanzig, Kanefan701, T1E2H3, and just say; Keep it PG and lower, don’t go too dark(but keep it around that likeable level of dark), otherwise, have fun.

I personally would either make it with models, or if it was done with CGI, make them look like models.
For example, the faces would move, but in a way that makes it look like stop motion.
Non-engine characters would also move in a limited, LEGO Movie type fashion.

@@walkerphillips2818 I also had the idea of adding lore from all the versions of the franchise. So Lady and Diesel 10 would be in it. Lady would be from Muffle Mountain, but it wouldn’t be another dimension (or whatever it was in T&TMR) instead, she’s from a part of the Strasburg Railway, since that’s where parts of the movie were filmed. Jinty and Pug would make appearances, as well as Bear, Jock, and various other RWS characters.
i would watch an entire episode with just nia and rebecca melting whilst slowly screaming in pain for help that won't come, then thomas comes and is like "i'll save you" but then he falls into the melting pit, and then they just melt and are never seen again

2:20 It works with cars because of their suspensions, making the movements seem (somewhat) realistic. But as far as I know, trains don't have suspensions, making the movements weird as all hell.
CGI Has so many open doors, yet the crash in the royal engine looks like an animation from the 90s

You know very well why they replaced Henry and Edward. They looked at the cast and said “shit we need women in this cast or people are going to lose their shit”. I guarantee you we will see new skin tones on the faces at some point. The show is going down hill ever since it went CG... if its possible to do what fanfics have been doing in Trainz, I think Mattel needs to fire the entire team and get better writers and cgi teams. The Trainz 2019 version of these characters look almost identical to how the classic show looked. I am amazed at how far CG has come. But my God this show is garbage now. They have the worst quality of CG. Even the tracks are garbage. The voice acting is also something that needs improvement...
Overall I would rather watch fanfics done in Trainz 2019. So so much better.
Over the years I feel like Thomas has become what it’s always been seen as by the general public. People have always seen it as a talking train cartoon for pre-schoolers. In the early years the show was an all-ages kind of thing, something even adults could sit down and genuinely enjoy. They were treated like actual engines on an actual working railroad. Now it really is just a silly pre-school cartoon about talking trains.

I found this roast rather hilarious to watch, especially the part when you roasted Terrence. But I highly respect your opinion on the CGI series, as well as your opinion on Rebecca and Nia. I think the only things I didn’t really like about the CGI series were the engines bouncing every so often, and the fact that not only did they turn Thomas into a rubber band of all things, but also an elephant.
He doesn't hate the CGI Series (S17-21) it's only the rest of the eras. But, his Terence bit doesn't make sense, although it was a joke. his widows peak is just a cowl.
Edward was the first character and they straight up replaced him with a character that is dumb and is a side character and barely speaks unlike Edward
CGI started off strong and gave me hope for the next generation of Thomas and Friends, but then after a while the producers took said hope and tossed it in to an incinerator, destroying what little faith I had in CGI Thomas and the future of my favorite childhood show as a whole.
I grew up around the end of the model series and the beginning of the Sharon Miller series and Edward was my favorite character. When I found out that they replaced him with a loaf of bread and a stick of butter I got mad. Can Mattel stop breaking Thomas and friends?
Whose idea was it to send the franchise ownership to them?
This was absolutely perfect and summed up so much of my thoughts on BWBA. I will now present some of my own thoughts:
1. The CGI era does have it's problems in places, but other times it can really shine. Just look at scenes in season 19 and 20. The freedom they have with where they can place the camera, as well as lighting in some shots is so beautiful.
2. ARC animation is better than Jam Filled. Now that may sound weird as the styles are the same, but look at something animated by ARC like "The Adventure Begins". ARC was able to create Thomas to look gritty and realistic, but not so much that anything like the faces would creep you out, but still being like "yeah I could approach these engines and and have a conversation with them", like you could with the classic series (at least in my opinion)
3. The animation in BWBA is terrible for these reasons:
i: The engines have absolutely no weight to them. Take the crash with James, Percy, and Rebecca. I don't understand why people like this crash so much. The impact is completely lost because not only are the engines moving their damn bodies around while they're speeding along, but they go gliding along the tracks like they're on an ice rink. Even Rebecca tips over like she's made out of tin foil. On top of all that, there's nothing graphic to suggest a huge accident went down. Take TAB again, when James crashes, they don't hold back on the violence. James scrapes against the ballast, the trucks fly off, the rails are pulled up. Even James comes out looking worse for wear, so you feel the relief when he eventually gets fixed.
- but no sod that. Let's now treat the engines like they're hockey pucks.
ii: attention to detail is non existent. Sets are either lazily recoloured or moved around to look like you're somewhere different, and even faces on the engines look flat at times..
I could go further on about things like the writing. But that's an entirely different discussion

I strongly disagree. Look at the rails, the lifeless backgrounds, how cartoony everything still looks compared to the models.
I mean Season 17-21, the adventure begins, and legend of the lost treasure were pretty great
(°-° ) You are 80% correct in my opinion. But the remaining 20% is actually more important becuz the model series had a better more realistic set up than the CGI. There were only some setting designs that I found "well-made" like in "Duncan the humbug" there was one scene when Duncan crosses the bridge and it looked like the most beautiful scenery in the entire CGI adaption.
But I don't like the new animation where they do gestures and stuff, its just unnatural for an engine.
So overall I found the CGI adaption "decent" but not all that "great"

the cgi era is decent but it still doesn't sit right with me. the people look like ass and the engines look too plastic-y despite being all high res and whatever. the eyes don't fit into the faces right... the only decent thing is that they have individual voices now which is actually pretty cool.

I can deal with them existing but I don't want them to take everything from Edward and Henry.
I wish Mattel just realizes that they're making a wrong decision. Thomas wasn't 100% a kids show. From the Railway Series showing bitter truths of diesel engines taking over, steam engine survival, and that most character's brothers and sisters are gone. Yes it is bedtime stories but there's a deep lore of Thomas that Mattel didn't know. You know that Mattel could've just made RWS characters into life and exploit them, and if done just right, kids will enjoy them too. For example, Bear/D7101. Mattel could've made him a multi-episode arc where he tries to get along with James at the start to show that he's a nice diesel. Or maybe even adapting stories of the Culdee Fell Engines. I'm sure it will be more interesting than an inaccurately painted Bulleid pacific and a tank engine who is smuggled to Sodor.
I agree with you! The Thomas and Friends franchise should've been more realistic (keeping up with diesels replacing steams eventually in the future while Thomas and his friends struggling, this is shown in the 2nd season when Diesel and Daisy arrived, also in latet seasons with all the other diesels, until they got softened by the story line). I think it's silly that Mattel changed a charming old-fashioned british Railway into a 3 year old's fantasy world (plot not making any sense, engines' bodies bouncing, etc). Yes, I also wish they would bring a character from the Culdee Fell series (I have the take along toy, the purple one!). I feel absolutely sorry for today's kids that they will never know the good stuff from the 90s and the early 2000s (first five seasons, the metal take along trains, etc.)
@@zakichandra8726 Thomas should be a series where children learn the real thing that trains do. I've heard of a unique way to pick up and drop mails and parcels. It uses a net on the side of the coach to catch the hanging mail that are hanging on a pole and another arm to drop a bag of mail. That will be interesting and with good writing, children will learn that trains are more than just things. Also if you *really* want Thomas to go around the world, do it that children will actually learn something, not just culture, but things they never heard of. Like if Thomas goes to America he will learn how knuckle couplers work and why are they little to no steam engines on the mailnlines of America (which is because they've adopted diesels earlier than the UK and the UK only did almost 2 decades later).
@@dr0xicon Yes! Trains are very versatile, it's a shame Mattel didn't take advantage of this with the CGI series, All they ever did was pulling coaches and trucks. They also didn't implement diversity very well in the series, like you said, it should be about how the british engines learns to operate in other countries, not just adding unnecessary characters and making them "diverse". It would be cool to see Thomas in America in that direction, and for him to face the majority of diesels taking over the american railway!

They got rid of Edward, Herny, and Toby. Heck they got rid of all fan service characters and character development of all characters.

Mattel is the Palpatine of Thomas & Friends. At first, they appeared to be compassionate, well-meaning. ( Series 20 and TAB was created ) However, this was nothing more than a facade. They are actually power-hungry psychopaths whose only true goal is to ruin this franchise.

I almost lost my mind when I found out they were replacing Edward and Henry. Like....WHY?! It's bad enough they erased Boco and Duke from the series but two established lead characters?! And for whatever it's worth, this is coming from a female fan who would be all for having more female characters....except they're Mary Sues and really don't add anything and I'm appalled that Henry and Edward are being replaced by this. RIP my childhood.
