- Part 1 of 3: the role of economic policies and international institutions in the 'underdevelopment' of Africa.
Howard Nicholas is senior lecturer of economics at the International Institute of Social Studies.
Recorded on October 14th 2015 in the Hague - International Institute of Social Studies.
Part 2: • Video
Part 3: • 'Underdevelopment' in ...
What are the root causes of “underdevelopment” in Africa?
What is the role of trade and institutions like the IMF?
What is the role of imperialist wars and colonial legacy?
What are the hopeful social movements and initiatives in different African nations?

I cannot believe the brazenness, the grotesque extent of evil. How do these people live with themselves? This video deserves full broadcast on African channels perhaps Africans can open their eyes.
They live with themselves pretty much the same way a pride of lions who takes down a zebra does. They feel damn good after they've satisfied their desire to kill and eat. That's one concept Africans (continental and diasporan) don't understand. We think these two legged predators are human beings with a conscience.
We must get this video on all channels and on twitter
Okay, so how can we spread this absolute evil to everyone!?!??
Hotep o6m7k66m
they have control over that too
Being from subsaharan Africa, I felt bad at this man, but come to think of it, he is a hero having the courage and boldness to say topmost secrets that have lasted for ages.
Now, Fellow africans, the ball is now in our court. Let Us Play It Well
❤❤
He said it 8 years ago & nothing has changed... we're doomed
Will they let him go unpunished?
Initially, I was anger and stopped watching, but quickly realized that I should be thankful that he vocalized and provided blunt honest rationalization of what I "felt" was going on. I've been screaming like crazy to anyone that would listen that Africa needs to produce everything that Africans consume/uses. Africa doesn't need the world, the world needs Africa.
Well said. The world needs Africa much more than Africa needs the world. Now with the transition to electronic vehicles the world will be more dependent than ever on minerals from central africa. If Africa realizes how much the world needs them it will become the richest continent on earth. If it continues to believe colonialist propaganda that they need the rest of the world for survival then it will continue to become the poorest continent on earth letting everyone else get rich off its natural resources and labor.
Our biggest issue bro is that most ears dont listen here in africa and if you voice something like this as an african u are quickly dismissed by fellow africans that you are blaming our failures on other countries😂😂how stupid. Our people have been brainwashed to the core 😢
I am watching this now 3 years later and its happening in my countryside kenya its so sad

Africa has to industrialize. There is no way out and the time is NOW. We don’t need democracy, we need industrialization.
Plus education, developing good moral values (such as no more corruption, more patriotism, and austerity) .
Laurence Co not morals but legislation. Africans can be good people just the policy is more lose for businesses. Thus you end up with corruption. As long as you make money you can pay your way out of trouble.
Africa needs to fix how government agencies are run. At the same time the west good stop feeding the deadweight Presidents.
Collecting dew from trees overnight in clean buckets and irrigation is clean water . Sending Farmers seeds to grow food . Milking cows, having chickens for milk. Life depends on water and food supply.
First thing Africa needs to do is to unite. We need that now more than ever, the west won't allow that because they know that's where the power of Africa is
Forget westernised democracy! Bring back the formerly existing monarchy systems. They destroyed them because they found the places so orderly
I’m happy that many Young Africans are watching this video and opening their eyes.
We have a lot of work convincing our elites to change course though. We need not just radical leaders but radical citizens that will resist Western attempts at bribing them to turn against their leaders. I like what’s happening in Tanzania

Whenever Africa tries to get out of Poverty, a war erupts. Someone funds a nobody and arm them to hand over raw materials even cheaper.

This is what President Magufuli of Tanzania is always talking bout. Economic wars are real and we need to industrialize, fullstop.

I am really thankful to Mr Nicolas, because, he openly told us why we the sub-Sharan African countries are poor. And he clearly told us what is the interest behind the three international organizations namely(WTO, IMF and World Bank). So, those who watched this video should know what is behind the aid and loan provided by the above organizations. Among all what he mentioned What really makes me sick is that, they don't even allow us to be self-sufficient. So, my African brothers and sisters please stop fighting each other and unit together to come out of this modern colonialization.
I agree, but when you're united in your own country, then you can unite with the rest of Africa. Ethiopia has been playing with the blood of its citizens since its inception at the end of 19th century.
Thank you Teklehaimanot for the belated comment. However, I was just telling to my African brothers and sisters what is best for us to come out of this poverty. I strongly believe that, the western countries governments(not the people) are making us fight each other to make us stay where we were for centuries which the Honorable Professor disclosed for us. Furthermore, when you come to Ethiopia case, you can clearly understand who is behind the brothers fight and who is being utilized by them and thanks to God both parties have signed peace agreement. May God bless our country and our continent.

The speaker is too modest and intentionally left out " keeping Sub-Saharan Africa ignorant" as one of the major underlying cause.

It is the same game all over the globe for black & brown skinned people. They keep us with our nose to the ground while they take and take and waste and waste. Then they make more plans 100 years into our future for our grandkids to not have anything. As long as black and brown skinned people stay divided they win. There's more of us than them that's why they're depopulating the world.
why is part 2 private?
this is very depressing to watch as an African, we will forever will be exploited, and our leaders just go along with it because of corruption-very sad...
Better days are coming my brother. Africa will stand tall one day.
Join the Blackout strike brother ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏻✊🏻 we’re getting our freedom we just need to fight for it like he said
I know right....it hurts even more when you know nothing's likely to change because of our leaders
@@vestinemusanabera5327stop relying on leaders you idiot, do it like the French and do a revolution
Imagine the brazen effrontery and confidence he spits this!!
I m happy for this man . Africa needed to know this
As an African, we honestly need to up our game in terms of manufacturing and selling.. Raw materials are cheap but finished goods are expensive
Not while we have people like ramacphosa in power. He is destroying the nation by giving all these grants
It's great to hear the admission of what some of us already know unfortunately many do not think on this level
It 's time for us to make Africa great !
join the blackout strike
The only people who can help us, is ourselves.
this is insane evils plot
but i do appreciate this man being brave enough saying exactly what is going on perhaps few africans might get some knowledge
I cry my beloved country UGANDA. 😢
I love this guy for his honesty.
Satan comes in many forms, but soon or later he will be destroyed as promised by the Almighty, even the most powerful ones in the history were destroyed!
This ideology of the God and Satan war is also another thing the western world is using to keep us where we are.

Africa is on the rise. We are just waiting for Nigeria to wake up from slumber!!!
i once heard the poverty is a billion dollar industry; now i postulate that poverty of afrika poverty is the bloodline of the earth.
We spend all our days hating each other instead of focusing on the issues. Remember that when a bear and a wolf fight over a rabbit, the fox always gets away with it. Don't forget that. This is the core of Africa's problem. We still have not understood that division and ignorance will continue to dig our grave. Soon we will be strangers in our own continent.
This is heartbreaking😢😢
He's lecturing raw information 🔥 best believe the implementation of these systems are 75+ years implemented before it was given a name. But all hope is not lost. Thanks, Doc, for the info. We shall do what we must under Yahuah🙏🏽.
Shalam.
Please don't rush to get angry over this ...take time to listen to the whole series (3/3) to get the thought behind the exposée...
Idiot.
Where can I get the 2nd lecture?
Wat Next .. Don't get angry..? Yeah right.. Nxt yuh will say, jesus is coming to save us soon.. 🙄
Yes he is doing the expose.
These humans are unbelievable!
Thank You For Opening Our Eyes We Will Rise Whatever It Takes!!!
This guy is a Godsend because he is telling you the problem, the reason for the problem and the solution. What more do you want. Did you really not know or just waiting for someone like him to say it because you dismissed all those African activists and leaders who have been saying this for decades, He says it "THE SOLUTION IS AGGRESSIVE INDUSTRIALIZATION". I read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" and John Perkins other books. He tells you in black and white which world leaders they eliminate and why. So now that you know what are you going to do about it? It should give you a different perspective when you hear of unrest or a coup or when Bill Gates and the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation start initiatives in your countries or the NGOs and on and on. Until we do something in unison they will send their CIA with millions of dollars and overthrow governments and create instability. The problem is HUGE... they are advisors to our militaries, and intelligence and every aspect of our governments. Who do you think is behind USAID and NED.... c'mon people the info is out there read.
While he did bring out important info (I've honestly never thought manufacturing was the *KEY* industry, a big one but not the main one), it's honestly tiring constantly hearing academic apologists for African leaders. I'm African, born bred and raised my entire life. I've lived in different areas and had the privilege to live in and visit other African states. Yes we need to stop getting aid, yes we need to revitalize the manufacturing industry, yes to all these things. But the issue of corruption is such a huge problem, and the fact that it's not only propagated by leaders but the populace too... Trust me, no amount of revolution will fix things here until people fix themselves. You can have the best systems and plans in the world, but you put corrupt people to run those systems, and equally corrupt people to use those systems, they're gonna fail, 100%. If the "West" or "First World's" sin was greed, and wanting to plunder the "third world", then our sin has surely been greed as well, and the love of money, but we steal from each other instead. Both our leaders and your leaders are complicit in all of this because they all benefit. The common person is not going to go out and protest cause no one is about to get killed over that. We'll, I'll speak for myself, I'm not about to- it's not worth it. You're better of conducting your business as ethically as possible and trading with like-minded people because this problem will not be fixed till there's a huge moral & cultural shift.

@@adugnatesfaye3280 I'm sorry. My oppressor is not a white supremacist. My oppressor is first and foremost my county government leader who doesn't send alerts during meetings for people to attend and vote. My oppressor is the wayward cop who will stop and ask me for a bribe for nothing. My oppressor is the government officer who will refuse to issue my official documents until I pay extra so that it can be released. My oppressor is the person who copies my business idea, gets funding, implements it and I'm. Left in the dust. My oppressor is that customer who wants my product, will bargain to the lowest possible price, but will go abroad to a designer store and buy that expensive product full price no questions asked. There is no white supremacist where I live forcing oppressive regimes down my throat. Do you not realize that regardless of whatever agreements have been set, they can be broken? Do you not realize that presidents, governors and judges have the power to absolutely refuse the terms given by ImF and completely boycott international aid completely? They do not, because it's free money for them. *THAT* is my oppressor, and yours too, not a "white supremacist".
@@catlover8360
You gotta see the big picture! Who is behind your government? Who put them in power? What happened to African leaders like Thomas Sankarra, Lumumba who understood and took a stand against the supremacists? Dead! Do you believe in democracy, and think that your vote count?
We gottapp blackened ourselves and in every aspect of life (most importantly Spirituality and educationally).
What truth can resonate in you when you keep praying White Jesus/Jehovah or Allah and its prophet Mohammed. This is most important than any economic decision we can come out with. You can't beat the oppressor in his own systems, just Create your own.
@@holychance1 😂😂😂you know what, never mind. I can see there are bigger things at play here. 4 times I have tried to post my comment only to have it deleted. So it seems dissenting opinions are not welcome on SM platforms these days. Anyway, seriously all I'll say is we will. Never move forward until we fix ourselves. The white man is not your enemy. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers. Don't be deceived

Protect this man at all cost. He speaks so much truth. Pay close attention Africa.
I'd say that destroying self sufficiency and debt slavery are definitely aptly labeled as evil. It's easy to take an academic perspective and disassociate yourself when the people that look like you are the ones benefiting. That being said, I still appreciate the candor.
