Hi there Simon, great video and the Endfed is working fantastic ! I’ve been using an 80-10m Endfed up 10 meters high, for the last few years, as backyard space here is small near the city in Australia, and I’ve worked 220 different countries ! Keep up the good work and videos !
wow that's a good number of dxcc. sounds like its doing great. Its always interesting to see what we can get working in our spaces. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment hope to work you soon 73
Enjoyed the EFHW demo. I'd need to go from the very back of the garden all over to the far corner of the front to get a 40m wire up but probably be worth while I think ...been thinking of it for while !
@@101blog I can definitely say you won't be disappointed with this particular model, it's well built with decent gauge wire. I went for the 400w version and so far have run the barefoot 200w and never had any issues. I haven't tried any amps with it as yet. Get it on your Xmas list. 73
Hi Simon Paul in Kent hope you are all well with the weather. Another great video so impressive with your antenna. And pulling in some great DX take care Paul
@@paulmark63 hello Paul, all good this side thanks 👍 The end fed is quite surprising to me and after using it for a year now I can confirm it does a very good job all round the bands and if you have the space for the cost is pretty cool. Today conditions were poor but as you can see it did quite well. Thanks again Paul 73 have a good weekend
@@DK5ONV thanks Uncle G I look forward to hearing you from the Rhine. My local River is about 1 km down the hill and it's known as the River Aire. Have a good weekend and many DX from your Portable ops 👍
I have very little real estate at my current location. Just put up an EFHW (Chameleon) and have it sloping, though I plan on putting the low end up into a tree about 20ft up. My EFHW is about 20m long and lets me get all bands 80m-10m with a tuner. Within hours of putting it up I was doing trans-equitorial 10m phone with Argentina and Chile, as well as sun shadow with Japan (I am on the west coast of US).
Sounds like its set up and working well! You made some great contacts there I can image you were very satisfied with the work. Good to hear your success keep up the good work and many dx. 73 thanks.
The fan dipoles are also great antennas. I had plenty of DX with mine and I had on the go for a couple of years, very good indeed. Good luck and good dx 73
Great video as always Simon. I had the 39m long version of this exact antenna and it worked great, managed to work all over europe and stateside and even VK. Mine was setup in a V formation. Sadly it snapped one night and I cut it shorter for 40m only, I now use a beam for DX instead. 👍🏻
@@Drpepper99uk thanks for watching and your comments. I definitely will be sticking with it as it does seem to work very nicely. Hopefully it should go a while without any breaks I made sure it would not be pulled about or struck by any trees when windy. I bet you are doing well with a beam antenna on 40 I would like one of those 😁👍. This does well on 40 down to south America and west direction but for Japan my vertical seems to be a bit better. Still I like it and especially love the lower noise levels on RX. Awesome antenna for the cost. Tnx agn 73
@@2m0rot I agree 👍 they have good heavy gauge wire which so far is holding up well. The wx gets wild hear on the hills similar to your location so they get put through the test 😁. Very good indeed 73
My main HF antenna is a home-made random end-fed of only 41ft but I've had some good dx on 40, 20 and 10 and NVIS on 80m (which it isn't supposed to work on). Also tuneable on 17,15 and 12 too. Hopefully I can get an early morning session on 10m at some point and get some European and UK contacts again.
The wires are very popular and definitely work well. I hope to hear one morning when the propagation is right. In the meantime all the best DX thanks and 73
I’m surprised at the Hustler being better than the EFHW for DX on 40m, my UK Antennas 40m EFHW blew the socks off my hustler everywhere, but funny enough although the ATU gets me working on 30m it’s not a performer there
@@bigmartin hi bud tnx for the comment. Yes I agree it works for DX I have managed Japan on 40 with it as well as south America no problem but for North America and Middle East my vertical works better. It has radials under the grass. It probably because the wire is more of a inverted L and quite direction focussed to south/north direction. I definitely like it though very good indeed. I'm lucky to have both horizontal and vertical which is useful. Thanks again 73
@ yeah mine in also inverted L running E-W so the USA & Europe etc are in the lulls. I actually my my UKantennas balun after seeing your original video on your EFHW, it’s a fine bit of kit
@@bigmartin nice one keep up the good DX with yours and let's hope we keep making good waves from these surprisingly awesome antenna. I am glad I bought it that is for sure. 73
i bought one of these a few years ago and have yet to put it up. it's the 120ft version 10-80 including WARC bands. can it be bent round the garden or does it have to be run in a straight line and is it necessary to ground it like you have?
@@jackjones-er1ts hi bud, when I first set mine up the dipole was were it is now so I tried a method which did double back on itself. It was a folded u shape. It worked well into G but I didn't have it like that long so no real test results but it worked well enough with low noise. The manufacturers info said that no ground is required so I guess it would be worth trying. I fit mine to eliminate any RF and provide a ground for any unwanted discharge under a possible fault. I would recommend running a good length of coax feedline and avoid fitting any RF chokes. Any unwanted returns should be lost that way. Best bet is get it up and see what happens Good luck
