The reason for the battery feeling so heavy for it's size is because milliamp hours does not reflect energy stored without taking into account the voltage of the battery. Always use watt hours for battery to battery comparison
mAh is fine most of the time if you check if all batteries have the same voltage(3.7V). But yeah Wh would be the better number.
My assumption is the heat. If you connect your phone for charging and place it in the pocket - it will become very hot. Same here. This battery is supposed to go into the pocket. So I guess there is a lot of heat distribution material inside to help the battery cool off
@@Jonas_Meyerphone batteries are typically 3.7-3.8V. This might not be we don't know. Could be using higher voltage.

I really hate that mAh became the default standard for battery size thanks to phones...
mAh never were the correct unit for that. But because phone usually have the same voltage, they were comparable

Racist
@@georgejungle138 explain how its racist without revealing you're the one actually being racist
Hey Marques, mAh is only one of two metrics to determine the capacity of a battery, the second is the voltage. Together it gives Wh and this value can then be compared. The reason why it is so low on the Vision Pro is because there are several cells in this battery pack. This is also the case with notebooks and Macbooks, which is why Wh is also given there.
Yeah some reviewers do that, always annoys the hell out of me, lol
Yeah, was just about to say I've got a 20000 mAh battery the same size as that brick, but only does like 1.5 volts or something.
That's why Ah is a terrible unit. Battery capacity must be measured is the units of energy, which is Joule (J) in SI. Wh works too, it's non-standard, but it's kinda easier to calculate battery life in your head if you know power consumpion of device in Watts
I don't think he ever doubted the capacity. He was wondering why it was so heavy, compared to other batteries. The weight of the battery is not related to the voltage at all, however higher mAh batteries tend to be bigger and reverse, so why this one is so big and so heavy, is actually weird.
Well, what voltage is it then?
Regarding the battery capacity: the Vision Pro battery is 13 volts, not your typical phone’s 3.7v..
mAh is only useful comparing capacities when voltages are the same.
I will buy it, when it comes to Germany. Your unboxing was perfekt. The best look für the Vision Pro for me.

5:10 In terms of battery capacity, remember 3166mAh is only the amp hours, not including battery voltage. A better measurement would be Wh in comparison to smartphones since the Vision Pro is likely a multi-cell Lion battery (7.4v or 11.1v or 14.8v), while smartphones are 3.7v single cells.
Great video!
Can you enlighten me(us) more? About Wh and mAh in terms of their similarities and differences? Also, why laptop batteries are measured in Wh and not mAh? And also, how do these capacities compare to each other? - is there a formula to convert from 1 to the other.
If not, can you point me(us) to a video that will explain this well?
Thank you.
Amp hours are a measure of charge and watt hours are a measure of energy. I personally dont understand his reasoning behind WH being better if you can just compare this one amp hours to any other battery but thats just me @SiddheshBagade
@@SiddheshBagade Wh is (mAh / 1000 * voltage). not every battery has the same voltage. comparing batteries using mAh is bullshit
@@SiddheshBagade It is pretty simple. See, you have the stored energy in a battery. That is the Capacity (Ah) * Voltage (V). So in the case of the vision pro: 3,166Ah * 11.1V = 35Wh. So is sort of a made up unit, to advertise things it doesnt tell you much about the battery without the voltage, the one I have is just a guess. Phone batteries are a lot smaller, but it sounds better if they have 5000mAh. The stored energy is just: 5Ah * 3.7V = 18.5, so a bit more than half of the battery pack of the vision pro.
A mAh is only ‘part’ of an energy measure; power (watts) is amps x volts, then you get energy by multiplying that by time: Watt seconds (Joules) or watt hours (Wh) are typical units. So to get the Wh, you need to move the decimal to change from mAh to Ah, then multiply by the voltage. So basically if the headset uses a higher voltage than a phone, but still only lists mAh, it can seem like it’s less energy than it actually is.
Yall im getting mine tomorrow. I just tried it out at an apple store and LOVED it
This is probably the most satisfying unboxing I've watched in a while. On to the next video now!

The apple device ability to put screens / apps on different places at home and who knows maybe in the world by using GPS is fantastic.

5:15 the weight is dependent on the number of battery cells, that are used. The number of battery cells is dependent on the voltage used. You can make a 3166 mAh battery at 3,7 V or you can make the a battery with the same nominal capacity with 7,4 V, but then you need double the amount of cells (double the weight). That is why often people use Wh instead of mAh, then the "capacity" of the battery is independent from its voltage.
Well the voltage is usually increased by putting more cells in series. However, 3166 mAh at 7,4V should still weigh the same as 3166 mAh 3,7V because the Amps are different. Right?
Using "Ah" made never sense. Car batteries use that too 🙄
Specially that every device like bulbs/motors use Watt.
@@sim789936 Not sure about the weight, but 3166 mAh at 7.4 V is double the capcity of 3166 mAh at 3.7 V. It has never made any sense to specify battery capacity in mAh. Wh makes way more sense.

The prescription lenses part is crazy! For anyone who isn't nearsighted and used VR, yes, you need to wear your glasses. It's kind of impressive in a way, considering it's a screen that should be in your range of vision.
The lens in VR headsets make the screens optically far away. You can get prescription lenses for most of the other popular headsets on the market and some newer headsets just let you adjust the lenses to your prescription or do it automatically.
I wear glasses but with the PS5 VR I don’t need my glasses on the screen is right in front of my eyes. It’s close enough that I can see just fine. When I game on the tv I need my glasses not with the VR.
are you sure you don't mean AR? i never had trouble with VR without glasses even though my left eye is like -5 or something, just really bad and i could see vr just fine
I have a strong astigmatism and Zeiss is currently unable to make lenses for me. Which is really disappointing considering I have similarly strong prescription inserts for my Valve Index that work perfectly. I'm just hoping the pairing process for the lenses isn't actually necessary.

@@austenlangford It's 4k... No one is taking out a mortgage for 4k 🤣
mAh isn't really a great representation of the energy capacity of a battery because the voltage could be different depending on the pack. A phone typically has a nominal battery voltage of 3.7v for your average LiPo cell, the battery for the Vision Pro may have multiple cells giving a higher voltage (7.4v for example). Watt-hours (Wh) would be a more representative comparison between this battery and others.
Wh is a better metric even for smartphone batteries I don't understand why they use mAh
Yeah it has to be checked, it can't be so small
Nobody uses Wh because it's not impressive. Nothing to do with accurate representation. The average consumer don't know and don't care.
So glad someone pointed this out. Kind of embarrassing for a tech youtuber to be stumped by this :)
Me neither I never understand the obsession with mAh. Maybe because it is printed on every power bank and people getting used to it. Like fahrenheit or kcal. @@Tanner404
This unboxing is so amazing. But for almost 4,000$ it better be. And I'm also glad that apple put everything you need in the box because it would really suck if they didn't put any charger in the box and made you buy one separately. And it's great that they put 2 head bands with it. And the storage bag I think it's worth the 200$ but apple could have just put it all as one package for 4,000$. Great unboxing Thanks MKBHD.
Well done for literally, in my opinion anyway, for being the to-go-to for the world on matters tech etc.
The weight of a device with a 3166 mAh battery can be greater than that of a device with a 5000 mAh battery if the former operates at a higher voltage. Voltage, alongside mAh, influences a battery's size and weight. Higher voltage often means increased battery materials, leading to a larger, heavier battery. Therefore, a battery's weight is determined by both its mAh capacity and voltage, not mAh alone.
To expand on your argument:
The physical size of a battery is strongly related to its energy capacity [Wh]. Not its charge capacity [mAh].
Voltage [V] * Electric Charge [mAh] = Energy [Wh]
Here are some capacities of Apple devices:
2 Wh: Apple Watch Ultra,
9 Wh: iPhone 12/13 mini,
17 Wh: iPhone 15 Pro Max,
19 Wh: iPad mini,
36 Wh: Vision Pro,
41 Wh: iPad Pro 12.9",
53 Wh: MacBook Air 13.6",
100 Wh: MacBook Pro 16
So the Vision Pro has more than twice the capacity of an iPhone, similar capacity to an iPad and less than MacBooks
quantifying both voltage and mAh is quite literally what Wh is measuring lol
@@floriang2801thank you, came to say this if it wasn't explained already and you've done much better than i would have
Why don't they just put the watt hour rating, the amp hours are useless and misleading!
@@poiiihy in the same way that mAh doesn't really convey the actual size or energy capacity of the battery, Wh doesn't really convey the battery life relative to the device it's powering. @@RemmyMusic1 Ah okay i was wondering how he was gonna show us his pov
@@RemmyMusic1that’s smart
It's good they take the time to make it easier for their marketing Army, aka 'Influencers,' to showcase an acceptable review of this experimental product.
just screen record and output the video while talking about it
The glasses part is absolutely insane tech to me.
Right? And that magnetic sound when he attached the lens was just beautiful
I can't wait to find out how the headsets adjust the lenses to match the prescription
@@Artytanium apple being apple
There are a number of companies that already do this for existing VR headsets. Just recently picked up a pair of prescription lenses for my Quest 3, so this isn't exactly new or groundbreaking. They've been around for years. They're literally just prescription lenses housed in plastic with magnets lol
@@MiningforMac Ikr, Apple fan always act like " omg this is new tech that we never seen " 😂😂
Wow perfect unboxing
I could imagine people rocking this while snowboarding or skiing, have some music on maybe recording your runs etc super sick
That headband indent on your hair boutta be crazy 😂
Apple don't ever miss an opportunity when it comes to price gouging for storage, even on a product with a starting price of $3499. Colour me surprised.
My thoughts too!!!😮
I mean, to be fair they probably have countless dollars invested in R&D for the vision pro that they have to make back and if people are already paying that much, they're probably willing and able to pay more for storage. Still bad, but definitely more excusable than on the iPhones, Macs and iPads
To be fair most people that are buying this product are developers, most likely the non pro and cheaper version would come in 1 to 2 years down on the line when many developers have already released their apps .
@@marianolaguzzi this is not a good justification, apple makes an enormous amount of margins for all of their products
@@jeremyb5862They do not with the vision pro tho, materials costs are estimated at 1500$, while the production of each one costs more than 500$. Don‘t forget all the billions of R&D costs too.
Zeiss are the gods of optics, good thing they got lenses from them
Even the apckaging is sci-fi, Moon-esque aesthetic with orange, space-y accents. This direction seems solid!
Didn’t expect this video until a couple of days from now. Thankss bro!
ik good thing marques reviews his products before their even done making it 😭
He's not your bro, friend!
I just hope it also gets treated like a serious platform for productivity & doesn’t get confined to just games and entertainment.
4000$ for a phone in your face isn’t gonna be popular at all because you can get the same productivity apps on cheaper platforms, games are gonna be the only thing saving this
I still don’t understand why someone would want to do office work wearing a heavy brick of metal and glass on their face
@@milesthe2tailedfox tell that to macbook pros
So far it looks like apple is leaning towards entertainment not productivity. Which is a damn shame.

Besides that, humans are social animals, it's part of our DNA.
This device is isolating, maybe OK for short term, but it goes against most peoples nature.
