    Hey Peter, I have a leak at the tensioner o-ring. Do I just put it to TDC and pull out the tensioner and replaced the o-ring? Thank you

    Hi peter, I have a question for you do you have to turn the engine manually when you change the tensioner or you can start the engine right away? ( on a 2010 corolla)

      While I have the chain tensioner out do you think I should replace it? I don't know if there are common problems associated with the tensioner?

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  9 років тому

      Corey Stinar No. You don't need to replace timing chain. It normally last 300 000-500 000 miles and then timing chain could be loosen and it may start to keep bad sound. Then we need to replace it.

    Your trying to make it look harder I see some videos here they make it look easy, even pushing that rod down looks like your having a hard time .

    Peter when I tried to remove mine today, I got both nuts off the bolts but the tensioner refused to come out. It only came out like 1mm, it moved when pressed back in but won’t come out further, any ideas ? Thanks

    Hello Peter, If I will take out chain tensioner, and replace with a new one. will timing chain becomes loose and fell of cam or crankshaft? I will replace mine 2004 Toyota camry, do I have to take out intake manifold? looks like there is not much clearance around belt tensioner.

    Hi there!I have a 2ZZ-GE engine and I noticed a oil leak from the car if I park it for 2 days..not to much but I can see it..Yesterday I took off the engine sheald and I tried to clean all the oil that was most on the side with the belt.only on that side and behind the engine I have leaks. I don't know exactly where they come from but my mechanic said is the head gasket. Another thing is if I drive my car I have no problems with the antifreeze and heating. All working well.I don't know what to do now...I have attached some pictures. ..

    Hi ! I've swap my JDM 2zz ge last week and I'm afraid that i over-tighten the power steering pump. I do not want any oil leaks in the area. So i've searched for the torque specs on forums and found 32 lbs ft. Is that too much ? I will double check tomorrow, but if I have over-tighten, can it damage the seal of the timming belt cover ? Thanks !

    i have a leak like that on my yaris it spreads all in the middle of the block making me think it was the head gasket

    so are you saying if you replace the Oring leak will stop in that area but you must then remove valve cover and readjust timing chain...that seems to be a major design flaw to me if this is true..i can't see how timing would have moved out of correct sequnce since you did not turn motor cam or crank....I think i do have a leak there and already have valve cover off to replace gasket...thanks

    I have a 2008 Scion Tc that has an oil leak coming from th he back of the engine on the passenger side of the car. It appears to be leaking down on to the passenger side control arm and creating a light coating on the bottom of the car. At suggestions on what the problem might be?

    In your video you state you intimate you have to take the valve cover over and stick a screw driver down to release the chain tensioner -- NO you do not. You use a 22mm wrench and spin the alternator until you hear a click .. that is the tensioner piston releasing. You do NOT want to stick screw drivers down by the timing chain

      You use the alternator for tensioning the belt. you shouldn't hear click... And spin the crankshaft using a 19 mm wrench until you hear the click...

    Hellow my friend, how are you! It's been a long time.
    Our corolla seems have the same problem again like this leaks behind the engine. It has been replace before by a mechanic. I've check the head cover gasket before seems still in good shape. And since I've been learning DIY mechanic solutions, I'm going to give this a shot. Thank you for the guide, seems corollas having issue with tensioner O ring. Hope I can fix it asap.
