Herding Cats, super bowl commercial for EDS. I mean it made it into the lexicon of corporate speak.
Great commercial! My husband worked for EDS. Have a great mug with the cats on it
I grew up watching commercials as a kid in the 60s. I remember lots of absurd commercials. I don’t think you mentioned Stan Freburg in this documentary, but he was arguably the father of this kind of stuff. And I agree that “absurdity” is relative. You have to keep getting weirder and more creative to get noticed. Ex. A talking animal spokesman is kind of hackneyed but geiko seems to have found the sweet spot.
Mine was I believe a Hertz commercial where people were brainstorming as to how to get people from the rental counter to their cars faster and it was a jet pack. The person ended up flying into power lines and catching on fire. They decided it was not a good idea. So funny!
This was so informative AND fun to watch!
Thank you !!
I think they keep your attention because they're so unpredictable. Your curiousity forces you to watch.
Good point. They have always been absurd.
Great video and great editing! Subscribed :)
Thanks, Amanda :)
How about when and why the medical commercials came about and totally dominate! Hate them!!
I am feeling that it is quite absurd that I actually watched this entire thing and I still do not like watching stupid commercials.
Well you want bland non fun commercial like drug Ada when tell bs lies
The Doritos "Highest Cheese Pull " for Gynes book with a giant chip dangling from a helicopter and scooping into a mountain of specially concocted "cheese dip". I don't even eat chips, but I remembered the name!
GREAT 👍🏼 piece 👏🏻
super interesting! Wonder if we'll see a surge in absurdity in social media ads soon, they seem rather tame currently
I remember when social media was a way to AVOID ads, before da SUITS moved in, before the CARPETBAGGERS arrived. . .
Late 90's Jack in the Box commercials went pretty hard.
My favorite is .... none.
Every comercial in Japan
3:53 This is the man in high castle, literally
I remember dancing Chesterfield packs of cigserettes.
i miss the berries & cream guy
i also miss that guy
@@NghiHo-ds2xe @user-fz2lx7vb4w love you both!
@@NghiHo-ds2xe I also miss that guy
I also miss that lad
If I have to watch ads I would rather it be interesting
Same!
Hey - I know that little lad!
The allstate guy who tries to embody a cause for a car accident. He's in a tree and says " I'm a tree branch, shakey shakey" and then falls into the roof of the car and crumples it. Then he pitches you the need for car insurance.
Interesting
Sometimes i think of these absurd commercials and think about how Don Draper would've reacted
He's not real.
Sega
great video! i subscribed! do i win a pack of Lucky Strikes?
Thank you! We put your name in the raffle
my take away from this it took almost 100 years for society to do something about tobacco companies being able to so causally advertise tobacco.
So easy, a caveman could do it. Remember those? lol
Seriously… you can’t afford REAL subtitles/captions? It’s a SIX MINUTE video.
??
@@hash8169The captions have significantly improved since my original comment.
