You're not wrong about k-cups being convenient, but you are ignoring a bunch of other factors:
    - The alternative is not just brewing a large pot of coffee. There are other ways to brew coffee that do not involve a regular coffee maker, such as the Aeropress, which brew a single cup of coffee, and pour-over.
    - The quality is not the same. You said "you're putting through the same coffee", but if you are using a regular coffee maker, pour-over, or an Aeropress, you can use much better quality coffee that what comes in a k-cup.
    - You said that the alternative is messy. Regular coffee makers are annoying to clean, but alternatives can be cleaned in 10 seconds (for an Aeropress, just press the puck out in the trash and rinse the piston; for pour-over, just throw away the filter and rinse the base). You're also ignoring the fact that k-cup machines also need to be cleaned.
