Oui bien qu' historiquement je pense que Debussy a montré un raffinement harmonique jamais égalé qui finalement est l'adjectif le plus adapté à notre musique en ces temps . . . Pour Poulenc finalement le raffinement est à tous les étages : harmonie, mélodique, rythmique voire le personnage !

How definitive this version is. I suppose that is why there's an unusually low amount of other performances to listen to or at least ones preformed by the great pianists of the 20th and 21st century. Though this one is not technically perfect, you can't really get closer to what is intended by the composer

Enfin on entend le gamelan à la fin du premier mouvement. Beaucoup d’interprètes modernes passent à côté de cette référence....

Avec le concerto champêtre, ce concerto pour 2 pianos est une splendeur d'imagination où des rythmes divers se croisent dans un monde quasi féérique et puis la cassure brutale sonne comme un tambour au milieu de castagnettes et autres instruments bizarres comme des crécelles,
puis le calme poétique revient avec le piano, dans une mélodie simple et envoûtante... bref de la fantaisie de l'audace de l'humour et puis ce référant qu'on imagine, presque de Mozart, arrive dans ce jardin sonore où tout prend vie.... Voilà pour cette version magistrale, menée avec un grand chef
G. Prêtre qui a de plus le privilège d'avoir Francis Poulenc lui même comme interprète... Que dire de plus? On ne peut que savourer l'écoute d'un Chef-d'oeuvre en direct!

I just recently realized that Poulenc’s music(especially this piece) is an introduction to light language! When I first heard light language, it seemed very familiar. Later, listening to this, I realized that since my childhood with this piece I was introduced to light language.

I agree that the brothers' performance is brilliant in almost every respect, but what we've just heard is an historical document and can’t be duplicated or, really, compared to any other performance. Admittedly, though, it’s a little rough around the edges.
