- Cliff diving is a popular activity among tourists but the thrill can come at a price. In 2015 in the U.S. alone, more than two dozen leaps ended in death. We traveled to Jamaica, a popular spot for the stunt, one American suffered a bloody cut to her nose. IE producer Charlie McLravy was recording in the water when a tourist cut their nose. It hit close to home for McLravy. He nearly lost his life in 2009 after leaping off a bridge near Yosemite, California while on vacation with his family. #InsideEdition

I’m Jamaican and as my family and I would always travel to Jamaica, various of my parents friends would come with us each time. Ricks Cafe is a favorite for us, we go every trip. One time one of my moms friends decided to jump off the highest jump which is on the tip top of a tree, arms everywhere and screaming the whole way down until she slapped the water so hard that it broke all of her ribs 😭 now i’m too scared to even jump off the 12 feet one

I feel like people overestimate the danger of cliff jumping. I've been diving all over Hawaii, and my one tip is to only jump where you witness other people jumping safely. Sure, from high enough, water can become like cement, but if you're going to jump off anything over 40 ft, all you need is sandals.
Also, majority of the time, if you choose to smoke weed before doing a 'dangerous' activity, I'd assume you know what you're doing. And swimming while stoned is fantastic.

I’m older now, and I used to jump off of very high cliffs when I was young, and I fully believe it’s what has contributed to my back problems now.
I grew up near a state park that had a covered bridge right on its boundary line, with the modern concrete bridge next to it. Below was a large Creek with rock cliffs that were around 15ft high.
People jumped from the rocks constantly. I jumped once after landing on a rock bottom, I never jumped from that spot again.
Several of us would jump from the windows of covered bridge -approx. 25-30ft above water with a sand floor, though somewhat shallow at times. A few of us would jump from the concrete bridge, about 40ft, that was deeper water and sandy floor. Then, there were only a handful that found their way to the roof of the covered bridge, est.50-60ft(?) to jump.
I don't know of any deaths. But I saw a couple of bad landings, first hand. A friend of mine came up screaming and we saw she already had massive dark bruises covering the entire side of her body from her rib down to her calf.
But I must say, the biggest danger to everyone, was the canoers and tubers floating down the creek.
Esp. on weekends the water can get downright jammed crowded. As you can imagine. this area was a favorite stopping point for everyone. (A lot of tourist who didn't know the area, dangers or the laws.)
Often, someone in the water would stop the water traffic to allow a jumper space.
Usually, the jumper just aimed for a spot. A lot made a sport of getting as close to a camper as possible to scare and soak them. Sometimes they missed - the water that is.
That was 20yrs ago and it's not the fun place it used to be. Now, it's rumored that DNR still sometimes hide camoflauged in the woods until jumpers come along to get taken to county jail and fined $500. No one jumps at all anymore. Canoers hardly stop.
Imagine just floating along, coming out of the shadow of a bridge to have someone crash on top of you! It's no wonder we can't swim there, let alone jump.

I've cliff dived at Rick's Cafe twice. The tourists start at a lower cliff and work their way up. They dont let you go higher if you don't look like you can handle it. They kicked my buddy off for doing a gainer when they told him to jump feet first only off the higher ones. You can pay a local named Spider-man to jump off the 90 foot perch and it is amazing!
Jumped once at Rick's café in 2006. Sober. I wanted to get over my fear of heights-didn't work, but luckily I was fine and a strong swimmer. It felt like a long time in the air and went down very deep because of the height. Glad I tried it and was safe, but will likely never do anything like that again!

Oh buddy, 35 feet is nothing. I feel comfortable doing flips at 40 feet and less. Biggest cliff i jumped off was 80 feet and that was intense, never doing that again. My friend did a gainer off the 80 feet cliff and that was insane

I did a similar jump in Newquay. But it was only a 20ft jump and we had professional jumpers with us at all times instructing us on what to do. It was a lot of fun.

I’ve seen two people die cliff jumping.
One guy jumped off a quarry, floated up to the surface before sinking down till divers got his body.
I remember two 14 year old twins I went to school with jumped off the cliffs at La Jolla shores. One twin jumped first and started drowning, then the other twin jumped in to save him and he drowned too. We were in Jr. High and that incident really shook us all.

She's a Karen. Take it from me an experienced cliff jumper, it's not like slamming into concrete at all. This line literally makes no sense. I've dove from cliffs double this height and was perfectly fine. And yes I have belly flopped from overotating a flip at 35 feet in Hawaii and it hurts, sure, but it's still nothing like slamming into concrete. It just knocked the wind out of me a bit but I still had the strength to scale back up the cliff as tidal waves were crashing up at me and then immediately sent a fat gainer right afterwards! I have also slammed onto concrete from 12 ft while doing parkour and that hurt way more than my highest jump into water! So, Stay Sendy!

I jumped off multiple cliffs when I lived in Hawaii. You really have to commit and make sure you hit the water in the right position. It’s fun, but can be really dangerous.

I think everyone in my family have done cliff jumps on various holidays but I just downright refuse! I sometimes think I’m a “chicken” for not doing it but I just also think that risking your life to prove a point just isn’t worth it

Ya I have been to ricks cafe two times and the reason that's woman broke her nose is because her form is horrible she was slowly letting herself go forward I have litteraly jumped off that cliff multiple times it's fine the only way you get hurt is if your too scared and slip or have horrible diving form

Ricks Cafe is awesome. I jumped the cliff there a few years ago and hope to go back. If you think 35 feet is high, you should see where the staff jumps off from, it is at least 20 feet higher
