Born in 65 .i remember getting in a bit of trouble like a boy does and my dad saying you watch Andy Griffith so you know better so now you are grounded ! Thank you DAD miss you
I just found this, and it is great. We live just north across the state line near Fancy Gap, and we go to Mt. Airy regularly. I was glad to see the class picture. My wife's aunt (Edna Surratt) is number 24, standing directly in front of Andy. Her grandfather worked with Andy's dad. I grew up in the 80s, and Andy was on TV at our house every evening at 5 o clock. We still love it. I wish they made great shows like that now. Excellent video.
We can see how Andy Griffith got his inspiration for the show. It's so beautiful, and just imagine what it must have looked like back then. Welcome to Mayberry.
I grew up in a small town, in Western Md. Still live here, raised 3 generations here. Just like Mayberry. Back in the 60s we even had a Barney. A town cop that looked & acted like Barney. We akso had a Floyd, the barber. 🤣🤣
We still watch the Andy Griffith show and so glad it is available on tv What a nice memory to have and the stories written for the show had pretty good guidelines of how life should be What a special time I’m glad I grew up with this type of show
Great video! I've visited Mt.Airy, and it's a wonderful experience. I was fortunate enough to visit the museum when Betty Linn, Thelma Lou, on the show was alive. I met her. She was wonderful, very down to earth, and made each visitor feel like family. Can you imagine her thanking you for watching the show and hugging you. I had that pleasure. It's something I'll never forget. If you like the Andy Griffith show, please visit Mt. Airy, North Carolina 😊❤
This video was wonderful!! I was born in 58' so this was my era of television growing up, and the Andy Griffith Show was top notch. It's still one of my favorites. I felt like I was walking right beside ya during this tour and enjoyed it tremendously. These were the innocent days of TV when simple comedy was at its finest. It's so different today. Wow, it brought me so many great memories. Thank you for doing this. I give it 5 out of 5 badges!! I want to go here so bad now!! I'm saving this video to my favorites so I can look back on it and remember the tour guides name and the bed and breakfast place and other things. Who knows, maybe I can even make it out there in September. I just LOVE this video!!!
I was born in 57 and grew up watching it. My parents spent most of my childhood lives going through Kentucky and Tennessee and North Carolina and I'm from southern Ohio
Nice video. Always watched growing up in the 70s. Born 69. Really liked the ford Galaxie. My dad had a 68 fastback and 73 Galaxie 500 sedan. Love that old police car siren Didn’t know that about Floyd.
Me and my family went there in 2014. Brought back a lot of memories. I think I actually met Floyd the barber to the real Floyd. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for sharing.
Andy Griffith & Don Knott's were a very underrated comedy duo one of the best ever. Probably a huge reason the show was such a hit. What a chemistry Andy and Don had. Awesome, few comedy teams achieve that.
I was 3 yrs old in 1960 my mother watched it when i was a 3 yr old all i remember was the man whistling. Now i do have some rememberence but not much but now i watch the show and have seen all tje reruns. 😂😂
WoW thanks for this video i drove truck for 18 years and went past mt airy several times but no time to stop and was not sure about getting a big truck in there, i too grew up watching the show so WoW thank you.
Great video. My favorite show was when Gomer came into the sheriff's office and was singing From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoly and said that was from the marine hymn and Andy ask him did he go see a John Wayne movie over the weekend and Gomer said he had joined the marines. That was my favorite show and that was part of the beginning of that particular show.
HERE'S THE BEST: Barneys Side Car Episode and he mentions "JOHNNY SHAFTO" - Well Guess What, I know JOHNNY SHAFTO - my Best Friend, Thornton High School, CO, 1975-1977, joined the USN in the same company 77-164 San Diego and still keep in touch today. I still call him Johnny, I LOVE YOU BROTHER, Bobby Estey (USN, USS Constellation CV64 - AIMD 77-81) Johnny Shafto (USN, USS Enterprise CVN65 and USS Coral Sea CV43 - VA97).
When I was in college in mid 1970s there were a couple guys who made their schedule so they could get back to their dorm room to watch Andy Griffith reruns ...Show us your bullet Barney!
Thanks for posting this vid. A year later since this was made, my husband and I are going up to Mt. Airy this weekend. Looks like we'll have a good time. Thanks for all the good tips.
Born in 65 and grew up with the show. It is my absolute, most favorite TV show ever made. If I could only have one thing to watch on TV or stuck on an island it would be this show. I have the whole series on DVD and know just about every line of every episode. I love this show with a passion. It puts me in a good mood at any time. OK, for you super fans out there, I wish they made a Thanksgiving episode as good as the Christmas one with Ben (Which we watch every Christmas morning along with Bing in White Christmas) and I think Peg was the best one for Andy. Barney is my favorite but so is Ange. Floyd is right behind them. We love all the characters. They feel like family at this point. They will never create a more beloved show than this. Thank you for making this awesome video brotha. I had a shot to go visit Mount Airy in the 90s but couldn't. Many dear blessings all and I might just have to watch me the "Jinx" one tonight, LOL!!!
Gonna make it to Mt.Airy this summer.Thought about going for Mayberry Days, but I seriously doubt I'd be able to get a reservation in one of the few hotels they have.I'll never get tired of the Andy Griffith show.I have it on disc!
You were within 30 minutes of where I live. I'm just up the mountain and across the Virginia line. You did a great job with the video. Hope you are having a great weekend and God bless!
So the night before I filmed this I stayed in Wytheville… is that close to you? I’m glad you enjoyed it! I will be back up that way in September and maybe I can meet you! I have met several subscribers before, it’s always fun!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I truly enjoyed it, as I love to watch Andy Griffith’s shows! One of my favorite TV comedy shows ever, great actors! Particularly the one with Brisco Darling and his son’s music when they are playing their instruments with Andy! Absolutely unique! Keep up the good work! Greetings🤗
Thank you for doing that. It has been my favorite show since I came to this country in 1981. And I am grateful to be in this country, not perfect but it is as close to it as humanly possible. I am talking about the people of the US. Most of them are wonderful despite the first month of being here I was in the post office don’t remember what happened my English wasn’t that great something happened and one guy was in line, I remember he telling me to go back to where I came from. And that was painful and I couldn’t forget that there is almost not a day I don’t remember that until now. Anyway water under the bridge. Thanks aging for a job well done . Best to you.
North Carolina is a beautiful state, at least I know it used to be. If you can visit there among the other original 13 colonies, do so. The beautiful colonies and war sights were very awesome and beautiful in learning of the hard and determined founding history of this beautiful country.
I enjoyed watching your video. I was born in, raised, and still live in Mount Airy. If you’ve been to Mayberry Days every year you would’ve met me from 1996-2004. There was a young redheaded boy who was portraying Opie Taylor from the show. That was me. I was the boy giving out lemonade at the old Visitors Center which was a blue house at the start of Main Street. I had the honor of meeting and interacting with some of the cast members including George Lindsey and Maggie Peterson. Every one of the stars I met were incredibly nice. I still have the slingshot I used with my portrayal of Opie. I sometimes knew in advance if Andy was coming to visit the town as he and my grandpa were cousins and he’d get word from other relatives.
You had to be born a long time to know that i as just kicking you about the phone use !I liked your filmm. And i am old enough to have used that type of phone son !
I'm 19 and I really love and enjoy the Andy Griffith show. I have a gun belt just like Barney's. Video was awesome and loved the Galaxies and the siren coming on. 🚨❤️❤️
I think I’ve seen every Andy Griffith episode multiple times. Did they carry over the Mayberry Day tradition at Toyota Field? I remember them doing that at Joe Davis Stadium way back.
