Yes, I agree. My mom doesn't know about the Korean-Japanese history, so she was a little confused when she watched the movie, but she enjoyed it. And after the movie, I explain little bit about Korean-Japan history because I learn about that before.
At first I didn't really understand until I searched on the internet it turned out that something similar happened in my country too because several Asian countries that had been colonized by Japan experienced this cruel thing until there were stories in areas where this was very terrible even though Japan colonized my country not too long ago. but they left behind many terrible things from slavery, murder, kidnapping, rape and even absolute things like this. They really have a brutal culture, especially if they are pushed to the limit they will end their lives in a very horrible way. they are prouder to die defending their country than to return home defeated. In my country, Indonesia, many people see the ghosts of former Japanese soldiers in scary shapes as a result of their suicide
This is a movie that can only be fully enjoyed if you understand the historical context of the time when Japan invaded Korea and forcibly annexed the country. By knowing the historical background of Korea, you will be able to see the hidden meanings of this movie and put the whole puzzle together.
For people who know the history of Japan invasion throughout East and South East Asia, this film hit differently. In Indonesia, it is belief that there are couple spots like the one in Exhuma. It is said that the reason why Japanese buried such human sacrifices was to curse the land, so the land will be in constant conflict and will never achieve peace and prosperity.
Someone explained to me that the Japanese put the sword in the samurai and leave a curse within him to severe/divide the country. Which is why there is North Korea and South Korea.

Thank you for loving Korean movies. 😊 I really enjoyed your fun reaction! If you're looking for a recommended film starring Choi Min-sik, I suggest . It features a performance alongside a famous Chinese actress and is a work that leaves a deep impression. Personally, it was a very moving film for me, and I heard that Choi Min-sik himself considers it one of the most memorable works in his filmography. The movie is adapted from a short story by a Japanese author. While the overall plot is similar to the original with some additional elements, the ending is different. The passionate performances of Choi Min-sik and the rest of the main cast truly stand out. It was released 23 years ago, so it's from before . In Korea, it’s still available on Netflix, though I'm not sure if that's the case for you.

this Movie It is based on the story of how the Japanese archipelago, which had been dormant and isolated from civilization until the 1500s, awakened with reforms and openness from the West, and how Koreans, who had considered themselves culturally and militarily superior, suffered great hardships at the hands of Japan until the early 1900s.The background of this great war(Imjin War, Seven years War , The Bunroku Keicho War) that took place in 1592 is that the carelessness and arrogance of Joseon (Korea), which enjoyed only peace and culture for 200 years, treated Yamato (Japan) as a barbaric pirate group rather than a country. However, Yamato had a high level of tactics through clan battles for 100 years, and the 170,000 troops of Toyotomi, who unified the whole country, armed with Portuguese matchlocks and attacked Joseon.Historically, Japan has waged a surprise war without a declaration of war.The 16,000 Elite heavy cavalry that Joseon was proud of, which had suppressed the cruel northern peoples, was defeated by the Yamato Matchlock unit, and 70, 000 Joseon Main Forces was pushed back all the way to Pyongyang. Yamato, which was a medieval feudal lord era, gained land and people if it won a war, but in Joseon, which was a centralized country, the king fled to the north, but the people and monks formed a militia and fought to the end , the Japanese army was embarrassed by the existence of the Militia.Admiral Yi Sun-sin of Joseon defeated the Japanese navy by winning all 33 naval battles despite overwhelming odds. The basic weapons of the Joseon army were bows, spears, and swords, as well as gunpowder bombs and various cannons of different sizes..The Ming Dynasty (China) sent reinforcements to help Joseon, but instead harassed Joseon by plundering and engaging in internal communication with Japan, but helped Yi Sun sin in the final naval battle.Yamato, who did not have the technology to make pottery, Taken in hundreds of Joseon pottery craftsmen to make pottery and exported the pottery to Europe, where it received favorable reviews. This Great war lasted for seven years and ended with Toyotomi's death.A quarter of Koreans were sacrificed in this terrible war, and in Japan, there is a grave of head, ears, nose, a Korean civilian, as a record of the war. This Great War was a symbolic event in which the international status of the Korean Peninsula with 4,800 years of history was reversed by the Japanese archipelago with 1,800 years of history. Two years after the end of the Imjin War, the famous Battle of Sekihara, which appears in movies, took place in Japan. Joseon was unable to recover from the devastation of this terrible war for 300 years, and was invaded by the Manchus of the Qing Dynasty. It also suffered the humiliation of being brutally ruled for 35 years by Japan, which was armed with Western civilization while maintaining a policy of political strife and isolation..300 years later, Joseon became a reclusive country with a policy of isolation, and Japan defeated the Russian fleet through the strategy of Yi Sun-sin(T tactic, a modification of A cran's wing formation), the great naval admiral of the country it invaded 400 years ago, and later joined the ranks of the great powers.Yi Sun sin's the world's top 3 naval admiral and the turtle ship is an invincible Korean Item in the Age of Empires PC Games
In my opinion - at the scene where a rich man said just cremated it with the coffin and the other guy's shock is not that they can't steal it but it's just strange bcs in some cultures/situations/etc when you cremate the deceased one you pull them out of their casket and take a look at the condition for any specific reason before it gets cremate - for that case, I think it's better for the fengshui expert to take a look at to see any strange thing with it (the deceased one) like earlier when he examines the other grandma's grave and he said "it's clean - etc" Also nice reaction guys! 👏
