I do not understand a word in Hebrew but I can connect so well with this song because music is universal and I work with one of the sons of sir rabbi and he is the kindest and the most soulful person I have ever known
The unadulterated pleasure of hearing Rabbi Portnoy singing this song again, more poignant because it is with his sons, reminds me of what we missed for all the years he stepped away from music. Thank you.
The first time I heard Joel Portnoy was on speaker phone when he was speaking and singing snippets of songs to his friend, our conductor, Meir as he drove us to shul for rehearsal in Toronto over the high holidays this year. After asking about the voice on the phone, this is the first video of the Portnoy Brothers that I watched. So beautiful, peaceful, and soulful. Any shul would be blessed to have one of the Portnoys as cantor. Chag Sameach! 🕎
Been playing this piece over and over again. Soothinge in Miami. and beautifully sung, the love between sons and their father is clearly apparent. Would love to see them her
What a treasure
This tune is technically what the English call, if appropriate for such a gentle and sweet song, a proper banger. Kol hakhavod and good work
This is beautiful relaxing , confirming this moment. Hashem is great .
My Sister in Adonai shared your song with me. Absolutely lovely! Thank you. Abba Bless you! ⚘️
God bless the nation of Israel and the courageous men and women of the IDF.
A gorgeous rendition of Etz Chaim coupled with the palpable love between the sons and father...Wonderful.

Yekum Purkan was a staple of my youth....
I believe Joel Portnoy was the boy with the great voice who held that one note on Yekum Purkan for about ten minutes straight without taking a breath!
yes he did. I also sang on that record, ' Borchi nafshi' and I remember being then amazed.
