Ha, I think I tasted Spey Cascade against a young age statement OB from Dufftown in a blind tasting and actually preferred Spey Cascade but didn't like either! It was many years ago. I think the blind tasting was arranged by Oliver Klimek of Dramming.com before he retired from whisky commentary. I may have been slightly generous calling the nose an 8... but the point is that the nose deals with the low ABV far better than the palate. I find that a lot with 40% whisky. Do you find that too? I get very frustrated by whisky with a thin palate... and that happens the majority of the time with anything below 43%. Love to hear your thoughts.
I've tried the Singleton of Dufftown 12 and it is without doubt one of the worst whiskys I've tasted before, and to think it's a similar price to Deanston 12 and Arran 10.
Ouch, pretty damning review! I think that the NAS version about matches the price point of just over £20. I've not had the 12yo but I would imagine that the quality doesn't increase enough to match the large step up in price. There is fierce competition when distilleries move up into the £35+ bracket as you say. So just 'good' isn't going to cut it! Thanks for your input. Cheers!
Singleton brand is massively advertised in China. Most of Diageo products are mediocre and overpriced. A few products are worth trying such as Talisker 10, Lagavulin 8, 12,16, Clynelish 14, Mortlach 16.
Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen Singleton advertised here although it is widely available in supermarkets. Is the Singleton you see from Glen Ord? Fully agree about Talisker 10, Lagavulin 8 and 16 and Clynelish!

Ah, the Spey Cascade, what a... well, rubbish dram ;)
8 on the nose. Not bad at all! Too bad the palate doesn't deliver the same quality.
