As someone with 1200 hours in Squad over the past 7-8 years, watching you run around without ever getting more than 2 mags was painful, lol, good video.
The day has come. A new era begins. Some advices, in case it helps (for new people): -Anyone can revive a teammate with their bandages. So for example, you can revive a medic (very useful). The medic can revive a lot more people and recover their full health. Or if you have a wounded buddy and there's no medic around, you can save him as well. -Try to go from cover to cover. If you move in open spaces like in this video, throw smoke grenades first. -Sound is pretty important in this game. Try to hear where the shot is coming from, and which gun is it. But don't mistake the sound of the gun firing with the sound of the bullet hit. If the shot came from very far, you will hear the bullet first and the actual gun later, much lower (it's difficult). -If you see enemies, try to communicate their position to your mates ("enemy infantry from the East", or "enemy vehicle at 128 degrees"). Since not everyone have a spotting ping nor the possibility to mark enemies, communication is key. Your Squad Leaders and Fireteam Leaders can place marks where you indicate them. (8:53 I don't know if that was enemy or not, but surely it was shooting at your backs, and it would be good to indicate it). -Remember to check your ammo and refill if you need it. In this game, you don't recover your ammo everytime you die. And you also have to refill it everytime you change kits and spawn back (except if you spawn at Main Base, where the ammo is unlimited). Check for ammo boxes near the HAB (if the FOB has ammo), or ask a rifleman for an ammo bag, if you're far from there. -This game is won by tickets, so don't give up everytime you can (like in HLL). Try and wait for a medic, if you see the possibility. -Every vehicle, spawn, point/flag you lose, it affects tickets (yours or of the enemy). So be responsible with the vehicles. -There's some very good and practical tutorials from Gorlami14 and i think MoiDawg. If you want to see people that nail this game, you have Karmakut, Operator Drewsky, Friendly Nikolai and others. Some terminology: -"SL" is the "Squad Leader". -"FTL" is the "Fireteam Leader". A Fireteam is like a mini-squad inside a squad, selected by the squad leader, if he wants to. The only thing that FTLs can do, that the rest of the soldiers can't, is to place marks. So it can be very useful for the SL or the whole team. Other times it can work just as a division for the squad, and with the purpose to make some kind of maneuver and tactics. -A "logi" is a logistic truck. They can carry building supplies and ammo from the main base to FOBS. Don't mistake them with transport trucks, which don't have any ammo drawings on its icon, nor boxes on the trunk. -A FOB is the area (the big circles) where you can build spawns. It's created when the squad leader puts down a "FOB Radio". It costs some supplies, so you need a logi nearby. -A HAB is the spawn for all the team, which can only be build inside the FOB area/circle. The squadleader sets the print/structures, like the Engineer does in HLL, and the rest of the soldiers can build it. It's like the Garrison in HLL, only that people need to build it. The squad leader usually should place and ammo box to build by it as well, so anyone can refill or change kits near their spawn. *The whole ritual would be: drive a logi with supplies and ammo from the Main Base. Once in your destination, the SL puts a FOB Radio down. Somebody downloads the supplies from the logi (into the FOB circle). The SL sets the HAB (and ammo box) somewhere inside the circle, and the rest of the squad builds it with their shovels. Ready. TRUCK; RADIO; SUPPLIES; HAB (first SL then rest of the squad).* -A Rally is a spawn only for the squad (the equivalent to Outposts in HLL). You don't need supplies, but the squadlead needs to have one in the inventory. Once you put it down, you can pick it up later, or you'll need to refill it, if you want to place another down. You can build this anywhere, but the bad thing is that it gets destroyed if the enemy gets near (and not very near), so it works mostly like a backup spawn, better on the rear or in lonely middlegrounds where there's no other spawn. **Take into account that each SL needs a soldier with them to build spawns/FOB radios/HABS/rallys, except for the Lead Crewman or Lead Pilot, that needs 3 (i don't know if this last part applies to rallys).** Other terms are "LAT" (light anti-tank) and "HAT" (heavy anti-tank), which are infantry kits/roles. Lastly, i'll add something basic that i have misunderstood in the past, and that a lot of other people do as well. There's always two "points" (aka "flags"/"objectives"/"caps") available (except at the beggining). -The "Attack" point, which is the one available to capture. -The "Defense" point, which is the last one that you captured and that now you need to prevent the enemy to capture. (It's the one available for your enemy.) Your Attack is the enemy's Defense. And your Defense is the enemy's Attack. But once one of these points is captured, the scheme changes/moves. Let's say that you have Point 1 (Defense) and Point 2 (Attack). You capture Point 2 and now it becomes your new Defense; the next point, Point 3, now becomes your new Attack; Point 1 is no longer available and serves no purpose. I say this because there's often some squads that go to a point that's useless in times where they're needed somewhere else. For example, if the enemy captures your Defense point, now this point becomes your new Attack, and your previous point becomes your new Defense. All the team needs to move one point back, and the point that you were attacking, now becomes useless. There's no purpose on keep attacking there. You need to attack the one that was your Defense a moment ago.
Thanks man 👍 acted like a revision session for me. While I have both squad and HLL, I always struggle to fit squad into my gaming rotation and always feel like a newbie coming back 😂
