Looks cool! Always happy to see developers creating templates for DP!
They answered my hesitations on wanting the SL Studio 88 as a dedicated controller for live use once I make the step to ditch my Korg Workstation. Perfect!
Out of all this year's Messe vids so far, I'm looking to get this after the summer as this appears to be well thought out and actually a useful studio addition. Can't wait to try it out - 199 Eu is pretty reasonable to for the performance they are talking about. Good effort Studio Logic team!
Smart device! Good idea, good product. Compliments to Studio Logic.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing this!
For me it’s going to be a great companion to my sl88. I’ll use it live with a Roland Integra. I love the idea of a “modular” midi keyboard controller; if ever the sl88 breaks, I’ll have to replace only it, and not the mixface :-)
Can you map the sliders and pots within the unit itself? This would potentially be a neat addon to the KeyStep (which lacks assignable knobs and sliders).
Seems a great realisation of an innovatve idea. How about the latency with bluetooth?
Is it shinny enough?
So if I understand correctly, if you have a simple piano controller (like Kawai Vpc1) and you want to perform it like a SL88 Grand (with 4 zones, etc..) you just connect the Vpc1 to the mixface. Is this correct?
can i use this like a GOXLR, where you can assign the faders to app volumes on windows?
I have a apollo twin and this studio logic mix face. How do I use both at the same time ?
could you set each knob to a different channel. or does this only werk on one channel. thanks
Is it compatible with Sonar DAW?
Can anyone help me clarify the difference between this and the Korg NanoKontrol 2? Thank you
Sold.
I want to use it as a daw controller for Logic Pro X. Its not showing up. On the site, I click the knob "configure your daw" it says: The page your'e looking for cannot be found". Great!
Will this work with IOS DAWs such as AUM? Thanks
Looks promising, Studiologic... Obviously, Logic Pro X support (and other DAWS other than the 4 mentioned) must be added at some point, or I see this product failing as a result. Sorry to say, but this would be an inevitable reality if Logic Pro X users are left out of this product line. I own an SL88 Studio piano controller, and I would likely be interested in buying this device should it include Logic users as well.
I hope they include LOGIC X
Unlikely for that price
Motorized faders?
lol
Mixy McMixface
If this had MIDI 5-pin out, I'd buy it. I don't use computers, so USB is of no use to me.
Craig Z youre probably the minority in that
MIDI 5-pin OUT would be great! But he says it is only USB. According to the specifications it has USB host, so it should work with hardware keyboards via USB. In this case no MIDI 5-pin needed :D
Same here. Anyone knows?
I agree about the 5 pin Din being a deal killer. I have an SL-88, MPK261 and, if this had 5 pin din I could daisy chain as opposed to burning another USB port. No 5 pin, no use for me. SL-88 purchasing point was 2 5 pin out, 1 5 pin in and USB. I control my Motif ES rack with 5 pin out 2, 5 pin out 1 daisy chains to my MPK261 5 pin in, and MPK 261 connect to laptop with only 1 usb connection that transmits all controllers to various soft synths, Ableton and VST effects in my laptop. All thanks to daisy chaining. 5 Pin Din will probably be on their Mixface II if they learn from Akai's experience. An intelligent choice by Akai is to have an abundance of 5 pin DIN midi I/O (2 in and 2 out) on their brand new devices. Bluetooth latency/connectivity remains an issue and PC users complain that Bluetooth MIDI is completely nonfunctional.
There are converters for this, like the Mode Machines Cerebel, but those aren't cheap... But maybe even a really cheap USB-Midi interface will work, since this has a standard USB jack? Not sure. But those cheap interfaces are total crap anyway and only cause problems...
"if this had 5 pin din I could daisy chain as opposed to burning another USB port."
This can be solved with any cheap-ass USB hub, I don't see the problem here unless you already have dozens upon dozens of USB devices connected to your PC. But then you could still get a PCIe USB controller or something. That costs nothing.
Looks very limited
Another garbage. Any midi controller without motorized faders and display for channels to see what you controlling is pointless.
What's a good example of a controller with these features?
Motorized faders in a $249 unit. Uh... ok... “Hey let’s make a great unit and lose money on every sale”. What you need is the PreSonus FaderPort 8.
Ehh... He’s just being a diva.
