i loved how rollercoaster's chorus is more melodic than why dont you know and the melody is so prety
The glow in the dark concept is actually chungha's idea. I ever read that chungha said that she wanted to try glow in the dark concept for her next MV after she performed at Immortal Songs.
And I know how you feel about her debut song but I think maybe that's MNH strategy. You know that Korean people only like cute or innocent concept that's why MNH made that debut song to catch Korean's people first and after that she can try other concept to catch international fans.
I think this music video (and this song) really solidifies her as a soloist. I remember when she first debuted SO MANY IOI fans were upset since she constantly spoke about being lonely and there was hope she would re debut in a group. But after this came out everyone seems to have changed their mind, like this is the upbeat, charismatic, powerful song Chungha deserves as a soloist. I think she's still adjusting to performing alone but she's got a great future ahead of her
I think that Chungha has pretty good vocals compared to some other new idols. I also think it was best to have her go solo, I see lee Hyori in her :)

well I am not saying she is the "next" because I think that is weird to say. Because Lee Hyori is still Lee Hyori and Hyuna is an exsitence of her own, right? I think Hyuna is pretty different from lee Hyori, Chungha as well is her own. But they both remind me of Lee Hyori in the sense of performance and charm on stage. Sunmi as well. It's great to have all these new great solo artists right? ^^

Originally, I didn't think the chorus was 'big' enough, the pre chorus has this big build up and then the drop is kind of minimalist (a bit like Black Pink's 'Whistle') but after a few listens the melody really grew on me and I actually think the song's really beautiful.
Black Eyed Pilsung produced this song (he produces sistar's previous songs before) he's a good producer true this is better than why dont you know but i think her company chose that for her debut because they wanted to be careful since chungha is not the popular yet but why dont you know did great on charts and her company really promoted her within a whole year then here we go we got ROLLER COASTER and charting well, she's getting there HER COMPANY REALLY SEE HER AS A SOLO ARTIST SHE HAS THE VOICE, THE DANCE SKILLS, THE PERSONALITY AND GETTING A PUBLIC RECOGNITION SHE'LL BE EXPLOSIVE SOME DAY. Her future is so wide she will really improve a lot cant believe she's only rookie once she works with other producers like charli taft or s.tiger and LE, i really think she'll find what's fit for her she's amazing

true actually MNH is really promoting Chungha well right now, didnt expect her song will peak number 6 on melon i just thought maybe she'll pich 15 again but girl Chungha topped 3 charts and still no. 4 in intiz. This only explain that korean public really likes chungha and i hope she will try more and more concepts!!
Blenclerendez Vsaint yeah..I really happy for her and I really like MNH management. They did a really good job in promoting Chungha and I'm sure Chungha will try another concept for the next comeback. She said that herself. I really hope she will be a really big star someday. She's my fav member of IOI.

Blenclerendez Vsaint well, when p101 airing, I always thought that Woojin really resemble Chungha a lot like his dance, stage presence, and his rank which actually not high in the beginning but rose so much and joined wanna one. But he will not do solo, he will debut with other brand new boys.

I am a big fan of her and I love this comeback so much. I liked Why don't you know, but I think this concept suits her much more. Song is catchy and it shows her vocal skills better. And visuals in the MV, omg. She's amazing, I hope she can get more popular in the future ❤
I loved Why Don't You Know personally, mostly because I loved the feel of the choreography, and the way it went with the catchy but typical song. And honestly, her styling was on point, and she constantly looked SO good I was shook.
I didn’t like why don’t you know right way but it grew into one of my fav songs of last year and i feel the same way about rollercoaster. I’m not super hype for it right now but I’ll be humming it in a couple of weeks.
It makes me so happy that Chungha's doing this well in Korea.

This song brought Chungha to my attention. Why don't you Know did nothing at all for me. But this is fantastic. Her voice sounds unique and she has her own style. This song reminds me of more 90's music as does the MV. LOVE IT!

I'm of a similar mind to you, I feel that her debut did not showcase her in a proper light and it was a let down because I too feel like she can become the next big female solo artist and do so in her own right, not just because she was a former member of IOI. I quite liked this song, it's definitely a massive step up from her debut and it's a bit of an ear worm for me because I keep catching that chorus replaying in my head. With that being said, vocally it's still not 100% there for me. She is extremely talented, that's for sure, but I'd love to hear her come out with something that's a bit richer, a bit more mature and sleek and a bit less shrill vocally speaking. All in all though, I can definitely see her on the up and up.
If I ever dont like a song on the first listen, your videos always make me like it.

I feel 청하 has a true x factor about her that lends well to her being a soloist. But, I felt like I was the only person that felt vocally although she has a gorgeous tone, her head voice is just a little weak(which she sings in all the time) to hold a solo song. But, in this song she experimented with her lower register and it was perfect! Dancing-wise she is unrivaled for this newer generation, but with more vocal training and experimentation she will be a force that will rock the korean music industry!

I noticed Chungha in Hit The Stage, she was a special performance guest with a contestant there (I couldn't remember, and I haven't watched Produce 101 that time) She was waacking to that performance and I was amazed, she became my favorite ever since and she's the reason I watched P101.
And same, I didn't liked her debut song that much, but this. THIS. OMG. I am speechless by this comeback.

I totally agree with you. I don't know really why, but I love this MV and song. Everything flows much more than in "Why Don't you Know". The jimmy jib's camera movements, the closeups... In addition, I see ChungHa much more gorgeous in this MV than in her debut one. Also, it has a faster beat, a more melodic chorus... Everything is on point.

I rewatched Chungha's Immortal Song performances & I totally agree about the neon/backlight, but I also think the like... idk what to call the texture, fuzzy? Pants that she wears both in the MV for Roller Coaster & in one of the comeback stages for it, they resemble the same ones she wore for her Run To You performance. I could be just seeing things though, I think it's cool either way!

When I first saw that Chungha's titla track was Roller Coaster I didn't like it, and felt iffy because Roller Coaster doesn't sound fit for a Title Track name, but dang, when I saw the full MV, the song cannot go away in my head. The chorus just keeps repeating. It just keeps going like: "roller coaster~ woah~ roller coaster~ woah~!" And the instrumental at the end, I love it so much, that 90s video game BG sound.

I think I know what you mean about the black pink comparison.
Especially as the chorus drop is on the 1 count but the chorus vocal actually starts on the 3 of the previous bar so there is two beats of isolated vocals before the chorus drop. Also the drop is similar with some of those shiny synths up the top like in AIIYL.
There is also a chorus A, chorus B structure with more repetition in chorus B. They share some characteristics for sure.

Perfect timing with Bruno Mars Finese bringing the 90s back kinda feeling. Also inspiration from Ed Sheerans Shape of you Xylophones and EDM. YES but they still made it original as fuck! I used to hate listening to K POP but the producers actually know how to make good music now. Korea has some talented producers.
Agreed! Totally loved chungha - she caught my eye in a live performance of whatta man and I remember being so shook to the core at her intense gaze. Why don't you know was disappointing. It made me question if she was was strong enough to go so because the song itself was so weak and yet it somehow made her voice sound even weaker. It was unoriginal and very easily lost in the tropical beats wave, couldve been chalked up as a poor imitation of taeyeon's why. I think this comeback is great and while the song didn't jump out at me right away, I can see myself adding it to my playlist. I think she's needs to improve her vocals, if not find a song that's better fit. Her voice is so light and airy, if her voice had a bit more depth, the contrast with the falsetto "rollercoaster woah oh oh~" wouldve had much more impact
I honestly would love to see her sound go in a more r&b route (even if it's for one comeback). It would interesting to see her tackle on a song along the lines of for example, Ailee - Home, where it's a darker song but with a clear r&b influence/sound.

I completely agree! I fell in love with Roller Coaster in the first 30 seconds, but Why Don't You Know was a disappointment to me considering how much I know Chungha can do.
Personally, I felt that the music on her debut track sounded empty, like it was missing some production (not like I know anything about music production, but it felt unfinished), but this song surpassed all my expectations.
I believe this was a perfect representation of Chungha's abilities as a soloist. I also didn't like WDYK all that much, but Roller Coaster fits within her vocal range much better and is just a better overall song. I'm very happy as a big fan of her!

I passed over Why Don’t You Know after an initial listen when I wasn’t really watching the mv. Parts sounded great but the sum of parts was blah. Later I _watched_ it through and started to appreciate Chungha’s charisma. Roller Coaster shows off her stage presence better, but I’m still lukewarm over the whole thing. The strobe effect on one of her eye winks was cool. Is set design via lighting and light stick or neon framing becoming a thing? I’m thinking 1nb, now Roller Coaster ... and I think there’s a third fairly recent mv example but it eludes my memory at the moment. (It’s the special clip of Heroine.)
