What excuse would you have used? I mean, nothing justifies it and please don't ever be this stupid... but I just can't imagine what I would say to faking my own kidnapping. Let me know, I'm interested in what you Beautiful Bastards would do. Haha
I agree. The police did their best and with all the guns he had in that room things could have been way worse. My condolences to the families and friends affected in this tragedy.
The brother's rant sounds to me like flipping out from stress. I don't need to follow the 24 hour news cycle to be able to tell you he's almost certainly been hounded by reporters non-stop since the shooting, likely having news vans or paparazzi outside his house the whole time, and any publicly known phone numbers ringing off the hook. All that is to say nothing of the death threats he's likely getting. His rant sounded to me like a man who is getting very, very tired of the media circus over something his brother did, and snapping on one particular point. Maybe don't go for his throat so much, Phil?
You are aware that he can deny being interviewed, right? He also doesn't need to answer all the questions. He snapped, huh? Hopefully this dude isn't a "nice guy" like his brother then. Be careful, news people.
yippykiay13 it's called distraction, ask your local magician or street hustler for how& why someone would do that. If your community lacks these ask a used car salesman or real estate mogul (just don't agree to buy the Brooklyn bridge ;)
I actually didn't see anything wrong with what he said. He was just trying to explain why the 100k wasn't a big deal. He's probably been berated nonstop by the media since this happened, can't expect him to speak super eloquently at a time like this. He doesn't have the luxury of chopping and editing his statements 47 times a minute likes Philly D.
Arun Mangrulkar the funny thing is trump is the kind of person to be fooled by that kind of dismissal because he does it himself. Rex knew this response was directed at trump primarily and he used trumps own deceitful and dismissing ways against him. Or more likely he’s just a similar kind of asshole and they’re all socially retarded.
It's never easy to accept that your brother, the person you grew up with, just murdered 59 people. The guy is in shock and denial. His brother is dead and the circumstances are horrendous. We should leave him alone and give him a break!
from what i heard, the brother hadn't talked to shooter in several years, and now he's suddenly being stormed by media and newscasters, I say cut him some slack
In my opinion, Rex Tillerson did the right thing in terms of dodging the "moron" question. Although dodging the question seems like there's more to the story, it's not at all a huge priority for anybody at the moment. All a comment from Tillerson would have done is directed the press's attention to a he-said-she-said argument with no value at all. I don't understand the huge fuss over one word that seemed to be said in the heat of the moment. With everything going on right now, there should definitely be something bigger for the representatives of our government to worry about.
as fucked up as what she did, i dont think she deserves the douchebad of the week award. it seems like she may have been mentally ill, maybe even considering suicide. i was actually against phill putting her on the show. i do believe it is an incredibly childish and dangerous thing to do, but i also think maybe she was sick in the head, and not on the basic level of adult thinking that most of us are at.
Phil even pointed out, she was very loosely tied. She probably just arranged things so it would look believable enough for the photos, as well as letting her take the photos.
In defense of the brother, I think his having a meltdown. The News keep asking him for questions that he probably don't have the answer to. You can tell his just done with the media trying to get interviews all the time.
Or he also received a very large payment from his brother recently, and these questions are making him feel guilty about how that should have been a red flag.
Well, Yeah, he’s been interviewed plenty of times and media continuously seemed to knock on his door. I saw a different Interview he spoke and he seemed relatively calm but yet in shock. I bet in this one he got sick of the media and broke down
He seems pretty offended that people thought his brother wasn't wealthy or whatever. Dude says people focused too much on his gambling, ignoring the fact his brother killed almost 60 fucking people. No, this dude isn't having a meltdown, he's having a tantrum now that he''s being associated to a serial killer, and that his father's criminal history is also being brought up. His life is fucked, and he isn't helping himself making such stupid comments like that.
As unpopular as this opinion may be, I'll give the brother some leeway for ranting stupid crap. If my brother did this out of the blue (as far as I knew) and somebody stuffed a microphone in my face, I'd probably be talking nonsensical gibberish, too, and trying to find ways to defend him in one way or another - including bullshit ways like this.
People seem to think everyone is 100% rational 100% of the time, he has been told his brother, someone who he loved, committed a horrible unspeakable crime and people expect him to act like a rational person? He is probably still in denial about it or at the very least having trouble accepting this new reality. He's right, rich people can throw more money around him sending 100k to his girlfriend probably didn't raise any flags to people around him because he was so wealthy, 100k to him could be the equivalent 100$ some like me.
Phil, thank you for not identifying the faces and names of mass killers. I believe that is a very powerful change for the better when it comes to how the media talks about these events.
Not like every single place you can post memes is full of dark humor memes with his face. Not showing the face in the video is pointless if the face is everywhere else. Even youtube feed can have it right next to the video screen.
It's fine that you like him not identifying the killers, understand that it's not powerful but weak. Less knowledge does not equal more power, you're an idiot.
It's absolutely pointless. Even if every single media outlet censored his name and face, people would still know exactly who he was from his relation to his brother and wife. In fact, people would be even more focused on that because people tend to be more interested in secretive information that gets revealed (hence WikiLeaks). It's no different from trying to hide the existence of sex from teenagers. Censorship is a complete waste of time.
Every little bit helps. In this instance, no, he won't stop people from knowing who the shooter was, but the principle stays the same. I'm sure Phil knows all that stuff anyway, and that he is trying to set a precedent of news reports not allowing mass-murderers, or murderers in general, to become martyrs.
I think the brother of the shooter is becoming overwhelmed by the media, and everyone expects him to have the answers and be sensible. The guy is in both shock and grieving. How would you be in this situation? Where the whole world hates you for the actions of your brother?
Southpaw Exactly. It's completely unfair when the media hounds on people like him simply because they were related to a mass murderer. I can't imagine how hard it would be to find out your own brother did something as horrendous as Las Vegas, let alone be constantly harassed by media outlets asking nonstop questions that you don't have answers for. It seems like he's hit his breaking point, and I don't blame him one bit for it.
Thats the part I don't get. I hold zero accountability towards the brother. If he didn't buy the guns etc, how is any of it his fault? I could go kill someone randomly today that doesn't make it anyone's fault but my own right?
I was shocked that phil commented like the way he did about the brother. And I agree completely if you look at the other parts of interviews they keep hounding him
The shooter's brother was talking about money. He wasn't defending his brother because he was a shooter, he was just trying to show, that all the conspiracy theories about shooter's girlfriend being involved because of money are false.
It may sound odd but i kind of feel for the gunman's brother, not that long ago he found out that his brother just shot and killed 60 innocent civilians. i can't even start to think what kind of mental toll that would put on some one plus he's being followed by the press constantly properly. we are seeing a man at the lowest of lows. to me it look like hes going through the five stages of grief and that's why he's being so defensive. so i kind of feel odd about Phil going crazy on him. but i may just be totally wrong, so theirs that :|
The guy just lost his brother and if you watch other interviews, the news has been hounding this guy for very little reason, I understand people want a motive, but he doesn't have it. They even went as far as to ask the brother if he had anything to say to the families, literally the morning he learned his brother was dead and had killed 60 people and hurt over 200. I think he has more than enough of an excuse to freak out a little bit
I agree with this take with what we know so far. He seemed pretty scatterbrained. The point he was trying to make seems to be that transferring $100k isn't an unusual activity with that level of wealth, and that more information needs to come to light for further judgement. Perhaps the shooter transferred that kind of money to his wife semi regularly. We don't know for sure, but we probably will soon.
Me too, dude. I felt compelled enough to write a response right after it. The guy went from nobody to the most(one of) noticeable person in America(and not in a good way).
His brother seems like a nice guy who kept on getting fed up by reporter questions. If you watch the video where he first finds out, he seems really blown away and sincere to the victims while the press kept on provoking him. He's frustrated, confused, and probably never expected this to happen. Give him a break phil.
Nate Sobol thank you, I would need to see for myself but knowing that there is more to it then this is helpful. The comment is still arrogant, but the impact and idea that he was provocted shows a lot more human error
DychoTheSecond Well he had a really bad day and reporters seemed to be pestering him at his house. Anyone would go off the edge. As far as I know this was after at least 10 minutes of interview. Might even be later in the day.
I think with Tillerson it was more of a case of, "I wouldn't stoop low enough to even honor that accusation with an answer." It shouldn't have been a thing to begin with, but the largest accusation was that he was leaving, and he answered it.
Exactly. Even though it is a conversation, as he so often tells us, he usually only reads out those comments he can counter-argue, instead of ever saying "Oh, a fair point." That's also a part of conversation.
Not exactly. There have been a few occasions where Phil admitted a commenter who disagreed with him had a valid point. Speaking of which, did somebody say cherry picking?
There's been plenty of times where he's conceded that he didn't consider all of the angles. Coincidentally, it appears that Philip himself was a bit overwhelmed by the brother's statement, and read it so narrowly that he didn't consider the overall environment that the shooter's brother has been in with the aftermath of the shooting and the predatory media.
Lindsey LaMarre He said her name and a picture came up. He also said King Bach and a picture of King Bach came up. Anytime he says someone's name followed by a photo of that person it's a picture of that person, so if you have any ability of critical thinking it's obvious he intended to show a picture of Bella Thorne
The poor guy just found out his brother did one of the worst things possible and then killed himself. Give him a break phil. Hes probably havin a rough time rn which made him respond to the question so defensively.
ilikecrabs that and he's probably been hounded by various media groups and getting judgement from friends and neighbors (since he is a local). So yeah I'd personally cut the guy some slack.
Honestly I feel sorry for the shooters brother, the death of a relative by murder isn't a ridiculous idea and while that's tragic it's not incredibly uncommon, but having your brother kill dozens and then kill himself is an incredibly strange (and probably bloody horrible) situation.
The Lich King MK I agree... obviously his response was stupid and arrogant, but he is not in a good mental state right now. His brother just murdered 60 people seemingly without any motive. Imagine what shit is going through the brothers head
If one of my close relatives suddenly became a mass murderer, I'd probably end up changing my name. I don't want to bear the same name as someone so terrible.
To try to play devil's advocate here.... he might just be in shock over this whole situation, and ended up rambling about being rich and gambling because his brother turned out to be a homicidal nutjob, and that's probably pretty difficult to process.
It wouldn't bother me. I'd just try my hardest, to prove all of my family are not murderers. Rather than take the path the leads to people calling you a murderer. Just for changing your name. Society is wierd like that.
Hi from Puerto Rico, Phil. We got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Maria and it’s been pretty rough, your videos have helped me keep a sense of normalcy in these times and I can’t thank you enough.
on the shooters brother, I have 0 sympathy for the shooter but I do feel bad for his brother because he didn't ask for it and honestly i feel like he is probably going to go mental break down you can kinda see in the video hes freaking out honestly i think people other than police should just leave him alone and give it a little time
CocoaAndTea phil can get hateful just like anyone else and just lash out though i agree he shouldn't be that harsh on the brother cant inagine what that family is going through
The problem with catching the show right as it’s uploaded is that I can’t scroll through the comments to see what other people think. That first story is creepy as fuck. Like why do that
OneSmallPerson well a few second latter and you can't see it anyway sins over a certain amount of likes youtube seems to burry that comment In a sea of new comments
Thank you Phil for clearing up the timeline, I personally didn't hear about when they closed in, just that confirmation was an hour after. Again, thank you for delivering clarity.
I feel like the media is putting too much pressure on his brother. The man was obviously shocked in the first interview with him, and the continuous questioning is taking it's toll on him.
I’m not saying what the brother said was right. However, this mans brother just committed the worst mass shooting in the US. This man is probably be hounded by people looking for news. Plus he lost his brother. I can’t even imagine what is going on in that mans head. For all we know that was him just having enough of people asking him questions he didn’t know. Now I have no sympathy for this level of garbage. But I do for the family he left behind. They’re probably just as confused as we are.
Alexis Andransky it's not the worst Mass shooting in US history, it's the worse in modern history. There are some incidents during the expansion to the West where there were more deaths
And here's Phil calling him a fuckface because he's in shock. This is the first time in 6 years I've wanted to beat the shit out of that smug prick Phil.
In regards to the shooter’s brother and his comments about the money. I think that it should be kept in mind that this man is going through a traumatic experience, and is more likely than not, saying things in the heat of the moment. It’s horrific for the victims and witnesses of this tragedy. But it’s unimaginable for the loved ones of the shooter to know that their family member is a mass murderer. If it were me, I would have tremendous guilt over not seeing the signs and what I could have done to prevent it.
As a resident of Las Vegas and as someone who lost someone in the incident, I must say thank you. You are showing a level of respect to the situation we are dealing with in a way not many sources are doing. The tears I've shed over this is like nothing I can compare to. And you don't make me feel sad and almost like things make sense even though they don't. But again, thank you Phil. Thank you so much.
IMO it looks and sounds like to me the brother is just stressed to high heaven. No doubt the constant media bombardment and such has really taxed him and his family. Can't really blame him for snapping off a bit.
Honestly, I'd probably just let whatever the shooter's brother said slide. His brother just committed one of the worst crimes in US history, and is dead now, and he's been bombarded by the press all week. He's got to be under a crazy amount of stress, and emotions he's probably not prepared to deal with. I wouldn't be surprised if that guy has a mental breakdown.
Peanutbudda agreed. People say things they don't mean when they are in shock and the media had been hounding him all this time, trying to get reactions and stuff out of him. I was really taken back what Phil said.
Thelma not only wasted the police department’s time, but she also belittled the REAL kidnap victims. The reason some people don’t believe kidnap/rape accusations are because of people like her.
Thank you for calling out the people judging the Las Vegas Police Department on their actions/response time. Too many idiots thinking they could do better.
Phil, I think you're not understanding the brother's point of view. How could anyone want to believe that someone that they loved could possibly do something so horrible. The man is obviously distraught. C'mon man.
She did breakup with her boyfriend, he’s a model in canada. He can’t come to visit because his job has him going to all these exotic places. Also she doesn’t have any texts and photos because she got a new phone. His name is David uhhhh. . . davidson. Trust me everyone, does she seem like the type to lie to us?
The brother’s first statement said he had lost contact with that murderer over a year ago when he moved. So i tend to believe his surprise/horror at his brother is real. As for his response, we didn’t see the journalists who were probably hounding/screaming at him before he answered that question. Did he answer it calmly once then have a journalist rudely refute him? He’s been absolutely hunted for days. Give him a break. You usually do a better job of taking in the big picture before passing judgment on a 10 second clip. You blew it this time.
On the topic of the brother, it's very easy to see him not seeing the big picture. Dude's whole world is shattered. Feel like you went too far calling him a fuckface here Phil. Not saying what the brother said was right, but considering how he's constantly been hounded, the loss of family, and the terrible act that his brother did.... I just think it's easy to lose track of the world. To not able to really see what's going on and everything. Could you imagine what it would be like to have someone you knew and loved do something on this scale, not only that but then have cameras on you 24/7 hounding you about this crap?
Kinda disappointed on how you reacted to the gunman's brother, Phil. He wasn't the one that shot people. He wasn't defending his brother's violent actions. He was just talking about how the 100K wasn't so suspicious as people as making it. He must be torn up inside on how his brother could murder people. He obviously loves his brother, which is why this is so frustrating to him with all the media attention. I know that it would screw me up if my brother killed people.
That's what I took from it too. I think the brother is supporting the girlfriend in saying $100k wasn't that much in regards to Paddock setting her up for a good life, or funneling his money to her. He's trying to make it apparent that this was pennies compared to what his brother could have given her, had she been part of the murder spree. We don't know the whole story behind this family, but this guy has gone through something so life-shattering and upsetting. To come to terms with your own blood being a psycho and then having tons of cameramen and reporters outside your home nonstop. His life has been flipped upside down and I think he's losing it. As would anyone.
The first interview I saw - one of the earliest if not the first - the guy looked choked up when he was talking. Since then the media has been non-stop in his face. He looks angry. Who wouldn't be angry at all of this situation? Has he even had time to process alone? (Part of that is his fault too.. stay in your damn house.) But come to me two months from now when he has had some space to think and _then_ says something despicable, and I'll be more inclined to Phil's point of view. In this fresh moment, I think that if you stick a camera in someone's face, 24/7, when they are going through some of their worst moments, you really can't be surprised if you get some salt.
Yeah, I can sorta see what the brother was trying to say. The killer was supposedly a multi-millionaire, so him giving her 100k would be like the average person giving someone 50 dollars. The more wealthy someone is, the more money they can afford to toss away.
Thank you for your kind words about the LVPD. My cousin is a police officer in Vegas and is having a rough time. He's been working 12 hour shifts and dealing with a lot and hearing people criticize when they have no idea what the fuck is actually going on is infuriating.
To be fair, I don't think that the brother of the shooter would really be thinking mainly about people judging his brother because of his money or gambling. It seems to me like he is in such disbelief about what happened and that his brother is the one responsible; as they said, they had NO IDEA that this would happen - no indication - and I can only imagine how confused and flustered his entire family must be. Especially considering they are now getting all this media attention (not necessarily negative but definitely not positive), it doesn't surprise me that he ends up babbling and focussing on the wrong bit as this must be completely disorientating for them. I don't think we should now be turning on the shooter's family, as they are not the ones who committed this atrocious act, and we have to bare in mind that they are also grieving - not only the loss of this man, but also the loss of the person they thought he was, and they have to come to terms with the fact that their memory of this family member will always be tarnished by the horrific act he committed, and never being able to know what made him do it or what made him change from the loving family member they once knew. I still think that the shooter committed a horrific and cowardly act that is such a despicable thing to do and we should all be disgusted by, but his family is not at fault. We should leave them alone so that they can grieve and be together, without starting to turn on them too.
If anyone wants to see the whole interview with the brother, here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/SPZFN6VFFow/v-deo.html He seem's clearly in shock and sad about losing a brother he used to admire in such an awful way. He's also angry at how the media is speculating mental problems associated with his brother, something he deeply disagrees with and continues to affirm that his experience with him was that of a completely normal person and that this is much of the reason why it was so shocking to him in the first place.
Yeah its like Phil didn't give him the BFD here. Odds are he did appear completely normal. This attack was calculated and took time and if he was in a psychotic break or something that wouldn't have been possible. By all accounts he probably seemed "normal" so anybody who knew him would be shocked. Plus there is no guide for "How to handle life when your brother is a mass murderer" he's just coping the best he can...
Phil you’re the only show that I look forward to watch on a daily basis, except the weekend. You are able to fluently present the news in a way that is understood by most (and I really love your analogies, they get the point across). Love yo face, and keep doing what you’re doing.
Thank you Phil for giving us this breakdown of what happened in Vegas. It is nice to get a succinct nonpartisan report. This is why many of us turn to your channel rather than CNN or Fox.
Jake Larson Exactly. Those two networks will politicize the shape of a dog’s turn if they can. They’re full of garbage propaganda for their respective bias.
As a metro officer I can say thank you Phil for having our back. Every officer involved on and off duty did their very best to help people and end this tragedy as quickly as possible, in the process losing a hero with many other hero's not just officers losing their lives and being injured. I'm proud of my community and my brothers in blue.
Just so you know it's very common for filipinos/ and or significant others to send money back home to help family out. I should know since my family sends money back home all the time and my dad is Caucasian. This is not trying to defend the gunman, this is just talking about the money.
Lily Scott to me, it seemed more like he wanted to protect his girlfriend and make sure her life was comfortable. he certainly didn't want her around when he committed this heinous act.
Lily Scott It's common to send money anyhere. The issue is that there is no wealth bracket where $100k is not a lot of money. If you gamble that away in one night you still gambled away a lot of money, and I'm sure some might brag about gambling away that amount of money not because it is a small amount of money. What's more, she was evidently told to buy a house for herself and her family. According to her lawyer she felt pushed away and then given a large sum of money to start a new life. Combine that with a house full of guns and explosives and you have to being to doubt she didn't know something. I'm not into witch hunts. I will let the investigation happen. But it looks bad.
R T There’s no wealth bracket where $100k is not a lot of money?? I’m broke af but that’s simply not true. Shit looks sketchy but that comment by itself, though arrogant, isn’t. There are definitely people that gamble like that and call it nothing - they’re called whales in the industry. Just saying.
I don't think that's why he sent her money is it? Even she was surprised by the money, so it wasn't normal. Not sure many would argue he sent her money because he knew what he was about to do. We don't yet know how his will and estate are set up, so it could be he sent her money to have until she inherits his estate, or it could have been to set her up for a life without him. But slearly this wasn't a normal action for her as she thought it was out of character.
I have family in Vietnam, so I know it's common to send money. But I know it is not common to send 100K to your family overseas no matter how rich you are. My dad's side of the family is extremely wealthy. One of my uncles could drop 100k almost like nothing, but he would sure as shit think hard about that before he did it. There is no social class that does not recognize that 100k is a lot of money. It may not be a lot to them, but they are smart enough to know that it is a lot of money.
Put yourself in the shooter's brother's shoes. He literally went from a complete unknown individual to someone that I'm sure has a multitude of people tracking his every move.
I was listening to the police scanners on my phone when the news broke. The emergency services here in Las Vegas are amazing! They did a great job handling the situation. They deserve all the praise and support they are getting
I'm not a fan of Rex or Trump in any way what so ever, but I still don't see the things you see when I try to be objective. I just see a guy basically saying "Dude, that's your main headline?? Wether or not I insulted him? Not that I am possible quitting my job? Really? If I asked you if you even loved Trey, and you looked at me like "Seriously?" and don't say anything.. That now means you don't love Trey? If the question is that rediculous to the guy you're asking it, he might just not even see the point of answering it.
Phil tries to be objective, but in the end he has biases just like anyone else. I'll give him credit that he at least tries, and since most of the time we can see eye to eye I'm able to get pass the times I don't agree with him.
Nobody is objective, but Phil comes close. I disagree with Phil on quite a bit, but he takes deliberate steps to recognize and disclose his personal biases, and that is something that is unheard of from mainstream newscasters and independent hosts alike.
Not answering a silly question is a better response than giving a reach-around answer that doesn't say anything. You acknowledge the question is silly and that the answer is clear, but saying something that can be interpreted in multiple ways just so you can save face(he doesn't want to directly admit that he called Trump a moron with a simple "No, I didn't", or "Yes, I did") answers nothing. In reference to your Trey question, his face of disbelief and refusal to acknowledge your question means "Yes, you idiot. Why even ask me that?", unless you're looking to pester him with your own assumptions. Rex is clearly pissed about how things are going. I like to think he actually wants to do things, but he isn't getting any support from the White House, and he can't speak out about it because of the atmosphere this administration resides in (Loyalty or bust).
I legitimately think you need to reassess the brothers statements. He wasn't defending his brother he was trying to explain that the money his sister-in-law received was not suspicious or out of the ordinary. People are treating her like she is like a co-conspirator when she likely had no idea her boyfriend was going to commit such a heinous act. The brother looked distressed and emotional throughout the whole interview. He and his family are having to accept the fact that someone they loved and thought was a good person for several decades is now a mass murderer. I'd imagine that would be hard for anyone.
Philip- In the last week both of my daughter's have suggested that we get rid of ALL the news people and put just you on TV. I agree wholeHeartedly, can we PLEASE make this a thing starting tomorrow?!?!? We LOVE your show........PLEASE!!!
It is sad I knew the twist to the Thelma story before the entire story ended. I feel like we get on of these stories every week at this point but this is one of the most ridiculous.
It seemed like Rex Tilerson wasn't avoiding the question when asked about calling Trump a moron. It seemed like he was saying that name-calling and treating name-calling as the most important thing was nonsense. I don't know if he actually said it or not, but I don't think it's really that important either unless he's willing to go into detail on why he thinks Trump is a moron.
Philly D, thank you for the honest sentiment regarding the LVMP and calling out people who have been critical of them during the attack. I am not only a Las Vegas resident, but a native of Las Vegas. The events of that night have saddened, enraged and even made me numb to the horror of what occurred. The response during the terrorist attack by the LVMP and the subsequent outpouring of community support for the victims and their families is something for the citizens here to hold on to, to restore their faith in humanity.
I don't think calling the shooter's brother a fuck face was fair. He's probably having an incredibly difficult time coming to terms emotionally with the fact that his brother is a disgusting murderer, grieving for the loss of his brother who I presume he grew up closely with, as well as struggling to deal with the press who are probably hounding him repeatedly whenever he leaves his home. We talk about mental health being a huge issue in America that is a driving factor behind these mass shootings, but then we're calling someone who is obviously not mentally well at this point in time a fuck face? It's not just institutions and healthcare that need more funding, it's also important that societal attitudes change. We need to be more understanding and more welcoming of those who are struggling with mental health instead of insulting them.
Phil.... before you start calling the brother names... remember that he didn't do anything and he is just as shocked and heartbroken as everyone else. Most people aren't that eloquent when that emotional.
I can't even imagine what that man's brother must be going through. To grow up, develop a strong bond, and create so many memories together to suddenly being completely blindsided by your loved one's actions. Suddenly your brother is the most hated man in America, a murderer, and dead. I would be filled with so much guilt knowing that not only were innocent lives taken, but at the hand of my own sibling. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.
I prefer cool headed Phil by far. I'm afraid he might be going the way of Alex Jones if he keeps the flame going. Becoming Jones is a stretch, but you get the idea. TYT would be a better analogy maybe.
+ikiratuki I haven't noticed any over all change in Phil (then again, maybe that's just me). I think it may be more to do with his feelings about elitism. This certainly wouldn't be the first time he went off on someone for apparently sneering down on those who aren't as financially well of as themselves.
If by on fire you mean really good, I have to disagree here. I am finding him to be more angry and judgemental recently and resorting to abusive name calling. And saying what he said about the shooters' brother 'on behalf of others'?
Honestly can't blame the brother too much, his emotions are prob all over the place after finding out your brother, your own flesh and blood, was a murderer. I can't even really imagine what it would be like if I found out a loved one is a murderer and then got hounded publicly about it for interviews so I don't think it's fair to blame him for not releasing the most coherent and appropriate response.
What excuse would you have used? I mean, nothing justifies it and please don't ever be this stupid... but I just can't imagine what I would say to faking my own kidnapping. Let me know, I'm interested in what you Beautiful Bastards would do. Haha
Thanks for the video! Love you phil
Philip DeFranco
There really isn’t a viable excuse for such a stupid, stupid stunt that she pulled.
Philip DeFranco Its was just a prank, bro
Philip DeFranco "Game of Thrones wont be back for two years and I needed something to do in the meantime"

There is no excuse for faking a kidnapping just to get attention. Thelma should be ashamed

be jailed*
People that accuse someone or "no one" in this instance of a crime, should face the same penalty as if they had done this crime themselves.
Dimitri Landerloos I agree, technically she did kidnap herself. I'm pretty sure the law doesn't have an astrix lmao
Zoeannaart -Zilahtov white people just being white people😂
She's gonna have to pay a looooot of restitution for the resources expended during her "rescue" I imagine.
Those kidnapping photos looked like selfies 😂
That's b/c they are .
The second I heard the santie claws line, I'm like this is a hoax
Tyrion Lannister so true lmao

I want to know what's your thought of seeing Jon in Dany's room with her.
dont kink shame
I agree. The police did their best and with all the guns he had in that room things could have been way worse. My condolences to the families and friends affected in this tragedy.
Jennifer A I don't see news about a black shooting a white church recently wtf is up with that.
Typical
And that's why I love grenades, and grenade launchers.

+Frankie Brysonious why does "African American" make more sense than "Black"?
The brother's rant sounds to me like flipping out from stress. I don't need to follow the 24 hour news cycle to be able to tell you he's almost certainly been hounded by reporters non-stop since the shooting, likely having news vans or paparazzi outside his house the whole time, and any publicly known phone numbers ringing off the hook. All that is to say nothing of the death threats he's likely getting. His rant sounded to me like a man who is getting very, very tired of the media circus over something his brother did, and snapping on one particular point. Maybe don't go for his throat so much, Phil?
MrSubejio His ridiculous rant was more like a rant about McDonald's Soezchan sauce.
You are aware that he can deny being interviewed, right? He also doesn't need to answer all the questions.
He snapped, huh? Hopefully this dude isn't a "nice guy" like his brother then. Be careful, news people.
Tree Bark you're a Real POS, have you no empathy?
I think my favorite Black Mirror episode is the one where a person’s social status is determined by everyone else’s ratings
you would
The episode is called 'Nosedive' and its one of about 3 or 4 episodes with a somewhat 'happy' ending.
The entire series is fucking great though :)
I think my favourite was the one where the guy gets blackmailed into robing a bank with that other guy, I liked the twist at the end.
The best part after watching that video is that I ordered delivery afterwards and had that rating system staring me in the face. O__O
_ SassySoucyxx _ that's my favorite
Why do I care who called who a "moron?" This isn't kindergarten, we don't need to hold a press conference every time someone's feelings get hurt.
yippykiay13 it's called distraction, ask your local magician or street hustler for how& why someone would do that. If your community lacks these ask a used car salesman or real estate mogul (just don't agree to buy the Brooklyn bridge ;)

I personally feel bad for the shooter's brother. Stress causes a lot of things like this.
ennui.tv Exactly
I actually didn't see anything wrong with what he said. He was just trying to explain why the 100k wasn't a big deal. He's probably been berated nonstop by the media since this happened, can't expect him to speak super eloquently at a time like this. He doesn't have the luxury of chopping and editing his statements 47 times a minute likes Philly D.
iWasNeverGivenAName He has the "luxury" of not accepting interviews or answering certain questions. As is his rights to.
*+Tree Bark* If he doesn't accept the interviews it's likely that people will judge him even more for "not being open" about the issue.
"...$100,000 is not a lot of money..." Bro if you don't value that much money, I will gladly take it off your hands.
I'll take that pocket change.

I think it's pretty simple. Rex hates Trump but likes his job. He got caught shit talking his boss and had to play it off.
Uhhh that girl is definitely not Bella Thorne 😂😂
Zoë B I was scrolling through the comments to see who else caught it 😂
Tae Yoon same

from what i heard, the brother hadn't talked to shooter in several years, and now he's suddenly being stormed by media and newscasters, I say cut him some slack
Taking YouTub...er Facebook pranks to another level
as fucked up as what she did, i dont think she deserves the douchebad of the week award. it seems like she may have been mentally ill, maybe even considering suicide. i was actually against phill putting her on the show. i do believe it is an incredibly childish and dangerous thing to do, but i also think maybe she was sick in the head, and not on the basic level of adult thinking that most of us are at.
I knew the first story was fake when Phil starting talking about it... Am I too cynical/skeptical? Eh, maybe.
It was pretty obvious, not just you
Chardee McDennis I did too
I did too.
The FB stuff was a red flag for me
He already talked about this being fake last week..
On the first story I just thought she was doing it to get ransom money. That would have at least have been a more beneficial motive
Cillian Brouder still wondering how she tied herself up
Alucard or maybe something a little less self-harming...
Like cutting other people for attention
Loreaver probably like how parents tie a tie for there kids around there own neck, loosen it and then give it to them to slip on. I imagine
Phil even pointed out, she was very loosely tied. She probably just arranged things so it would look believable enough for the photos, as well as letting her take the photos.
She wanted an excuse to eat her underware.
That’s not Bella Thorne haha
Not the image they showed on screen lol
I was looking for to see if anyone else noticed lol
Thank you lol I was so confused for a moment when I heard him say that
It's Samara Weaving lol She's an Aussie actress..
In defense of the brother, I think his having a meltdown. The News keep asking him for questions that he probably don't have the answer to. You can tell his just done with the media trying to get interviews all the time.
Crow XI People handle situations like this differently. Maybe you wouldn't handle it the way he did, but remember.....thats just you
Or he also received a very large payment from his brother recently, and these questions are making him feel guilty about how that should have been a red flag.
Well, Yeah, he’s been interviewed plenty of times and media continuously seemed to knock on his door. I saw a different Interview he spoke and he seemed relatively calm but yet in shock. I bet in this one he got sick of the media and broke down
he's not his. Makes more sense that way when you use English.
I knew you were going to say the Thelma story was false! I've become such a cynic 😫
the pictures all looked like selfies
Do you know what a cynic is. I think you mean skeptic.
Annie G I kind of new this story already when mundane mat made a video about the same story
Meidan Rrustemi no, I thought she'd be doing it for attention. A cynic believes people do things for their own self interest.
Neon Wabbit yeah maybe.. sad that assuming people are out to deceive is the same as being a realist though
GreenOnionBrother, I think most people already have that viewpoint.
direct Charge smart people anyway...
Why does it matter?
Every little bit helps. In this instance, no, he won't stop people from knowing who the shooter was, but the principle stays the same. I'm sure Phil knows all that stuff anyway, and that he is trying to set a precedent of news reports not allowing mass-murderers, or murderers in general, to become martyrs.
That pic wasn't Bella Thorne
EmHo I noticed the same thing I had to stop and replay it to make sure I wasn't crazy lol
Bella Thorne is in the movie
Lindsey LaMarre Bella Thorne might be in the movie but the pic Phillip showed when he said was definitely NOT Bella lol
Lol I thought it was a joke tbh
Yeah it was a photo of Samara Weaving xD
And I agree completely if you look at the other parts of interviews they keep hounding him
I don't get people who stumble into mirrors. They need to watch themselves.
Yea I just got a little frustrated when Phil called him a fuckface
Me too, dude.
I felt compelled enough to write a response right after it.
The guy went from nobody to the most(one of) noticeable person in America(and not in a good way).
They white so they be crasy!!
US media is gutter...dude has lost it with them so it's understandable to a degree I suppose
His brother seems like a nice guy who kept on getting fed up by reporter questions. If you watch the video where he first finds out, he seems really blown away and sincere to the victims while the press kept on provoking him. He's frustrated, confused, and probably never expected this to happen. Give him a break phil.
Nate Sobol is there a full video that you know of?
I've seen a few different ones presumably from different networks and different interviews at different times. I haven't seen a long video yet.
Crow X4 it wasn't too the press apparently who kept badgering him.
I think with Tillerson it was more of a case of, "I wouldn't stoop low enough to even honor that accusation with an answer." It shouldn't have been a thing to begin with, but the largest accusation was that he was leaving, and he answered it.
Ooooh boy, I can't wait until the Friday show to see how Phil reacts to all these comments about the shooters brother.
SBCannon that's what I've been thinking
SBCannon He’ll only choose the comments that he can counter argue.
But that's not Bella Thorne lmao
Hana that pic hella confused me
It’s an Aussie actress Samara Weaving, she’s in the film too though. Close enough lol
Hana I was looking for this comment lol
*4:34... ummm... that’s not Bella Thorne (redhead)... * #fakenews LMAO
I looked it up, and it turns out to be Samara Weaving.
Uhm he didn’t say the picture was Bella Thorne he just said she was in it, which she is. Look it up.
Lindsey LaMarre
He said her name and a picture came up. He also said King Bach and a picture of King Bach came up. Anytime he says someone's name followed by a photo of that person it's a picture of that person, so if you have any ability of critical thinking it's obvious he intended to show a picture of Bella Thorne
WixkedLovy I see what your saying. So it was clearly a mistake, which is okay. We all make them.
The poor guy just found out his brother did one of the worst things possible and then killed himself. Give him a break phil. Hes probably havin a rough time rn which made him respond to the question so defensively.
You mean did one of the worst things and killed 60 people
^ thats abit redundant
Iscafplays That's what the comment already says, stupid
ilikecrabs that and he's probably been hounded by various media groups and getting judgement from friends and neighbors (since he is a local). So yeah I'd personally cut the guy some slack.
so?
Phil seemed pretty fed up with morons in this one.. thanks for saying what many of us are thinking 🔥❤️😎
The funny thing is you can see it in his face his brain is exploding
why would phil be fed up with himself?
haha i know i fucking love it when he gets like that... The dude is so on point its crazy. This man should be running the country.
"you fuckface" - phil lol
I agree, he looked like he was in shock to me. Look at his eyes during the clip.
That's definitely not bella thorn Phil 😂😂👍🏻I know she's in it but he just put up the wrong picture lmao
Hi from Puerto Rico, Phil. We got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Maria and it’s been pretty rough, your videos have helped me keep a sense of normalcy in these times and I can’t thank you enough.
"Bella Thorne"
Lmao yes thank you I was hoping someone else noticed
I think she is the cheerleader that got shot in the boob..haha but yeah he posted the picture of the wrong actress.
In case you were wondering, that is Samara Weaving.
Im pretty sure she is in it though
There it is
on the shooters brother, I have 0 sympathy for the shooter but I do feel bad for his brother because he didn't ask for it and honestly i feel like he is probably going to go mental break down you can kinda see in the video hes freaking out honestly i think people other than police should just leave him alone and give it a little time
Rightz I agree I think Phil shouldn't have called him a "fuck face" the guy is probably in shock. I'm surprised Phil said it
CocoaAndTea phil can get hateful just like anyone else and just lash out though i agree he shouldn't be that harsh on the brother cant inagine what that family is going through
MsPeefer I guess you are right
The problem with catching the show right as it’s uploaded is that I can’t scroll through the comments to see what other people think.
Alexis Andransky yea how would you feel if a friend/ family member went postal and everyone kept asking about I'm sure it would drive you crazy
And that’s why I think he is not in his right mind to be making public comments.
I don't think that's Bella Thorne
You are correct. That's actually Samara Weaving.
Why'd u show the pic of Samara Weaving when u mentioned Bella Throne?
guess that was a mistake on the pic edit
Waiting for someone to mention that lol
The editors clearly don't care about Bella Thorne 😂
Peanut Gallery does anyone?
what's the time stamp for the pic?
On the topic of the brother, it's very easy to see him not seeing the big picture. Dude's whole world is shattered. Feel like you went too far calling him a fuckface here Phil. Not saying what the brother said was right, but considering how he's constantly been hounded, the loss of family, and the terrible act that his brother did.... I just think it's easy to lose track of the world. To not able to really see what's going on and everything. Could you imagine what it would be like to have someone you knew and loved do something on this scale, not only that but then have cameras on you 24/7 hounding you about this crap?
The second you showed the photos of her being "trapped" I could tell it was fake because of the angle makes it obvious she's holding the phone.
And on top of this, his brother is fucking dead. Give him a break
I think he was speaking on his brothers' girlfriend behalf
I called that first story a mile away. No one would do what that alleged attacker did unless they wanted to get caught
sponsored by postmates? wowie 👌
wonderful life No shit? That's how he supports his family
Supreme Sam im just saying its cool that theres a new sponsor, jeez
sucks they dont deliver to my area yet :/
wonderful life he's moving up in the world! :)
wonderful life I thought that too
4:33 that's not bella thorne??
Mikasi33 LOL
It is.
EDIT: Okay, apparently not, but I can see why whoever got mixed up got mixed up.
Same lil
I was searching for this comment😅
I was confused for a second.
If anyone wants to see the whole interview with the brother, here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/SPZFN6VFFow/v-deo.html
He seem's clearly in shock and sad about losing a brother he used to admire in such an awful way.
He's also angry at how the media is speculating mental problems associated with his brother, something he deeply disagrees with and continues to affirm that his experience with him was that of a completely normal person and that this is much of the reason why it was so shocking to him in the first place.
so that leaves.... blackmail?
Thank you for sharing that link
Yeah its like Phil didn't give him the BFD here. Odds are he did appear completely normal. This attack was calculated and took time and if he was in a psychotic break or something that wouldn't have been possible. By all accounts he probably seemed "normal" so anybody who knew him would be shocked. Plus there is no guide for "How to handle life when your brother is a mass murderer" he's just coping the best he can...
I could tell Thelma faked it immediately after hearing done if the Facebook posts, nobody would say that unless they were faking it
Rare Rian right!? It was forced and sounds like a 14 year-old trying to be edgy
+Mr. Nobody Considering you sound like a 14 year-old trying to be edgy, I'll have to defer to your expertise.
Ya, why would you give someone and their entire circle of friends a huge warning about a planned kidnapping?
seigeengine Thank you!
+risker34 Well, if you didn't think their awareness was an issue.
Thank you Phil, for keeping us updated and informed on the Las Vegas shooting.
Talking about having called the President a moron on live television would be such a stupid decision. Why would Tillerson talk about that?
4:34 Phil, that's NOT Bella Thorne.
That's not Bella thorne... lmao
Sadu Seefoo It is Bella Thorne. Hit the link in the description or do a Google search.
Russ The Troubadour no I mean when he says Bella Thorne he shows a picture of a different woman lol
Yeah the woman in the pic was NOT Bella Thorne lol
Sadu Seefoo I was thinking the same thing!
Phil you’re the only show that I look forward to watch on a daily basis, except the weekend. You are able to fluently present the news in a way that is understood by most (and I really love your analogies, they get the point across). Love yo face, and keep doing what you’re doing.
Wait, is it just me or is that not Bella Thorne?
Ben Carr it's not Bella Thorne lol
Ben Carr it isn't, is it?
Ben Carr It is Bella Thorne. Hit the link in description. Or do a Google search.
Bella Thorne plays the one in the yellow cheerleading outfit. Just the wrong picture.
You can tell by how she doesn't look like a human prostirat that that isn't bella thorne.
Thank you Phil for giving us this breakdown of what happened in Vegas. It is nice to get a succinct nonpartisan report. This is why many of us turn to your channel rather than CNN or Fox.
Jake Larson
Exactly. Those two networks will politicize the shape of a dog’s turn if they can. They’re full of garbage propaganda for their respective bias.
Last time i came this early i had to pay child support
Jarod Luis hilarious
Good to know everybody doesn't work at Taco Bell. I was really concerned my mailman secretly worked there
ComicSams he does
That explains why I haven't gotten any mail in the last few days
Pretty sure that picture isnt of bella thorne...
Right you are. That is an actress named Samara Weaving.
I'd imagine that would be hard for anyone.
ahmed essa Was that necessary? I genuinely don't see the significance of the distinction.
In this specific case, no, but in general, it'll help remind people that terrorism isn't something only bearded and tan guys can do.
Philip- In the last week both of my daughter's have suggested that we get rid of ALL the news people and put just you on TV.
I agree wholeHeartedly, can we PLEASE make this a thing starting tomorrow?!?!?
We LOVE your show........PLEASE!!!
It's sad that I appreciate the way Tillerson deals with things. It's nice to see how firmly he is Secretary of State and how professional he is.
guys should we tell Phil that’s not Bella Thorne...
the girl who got shot is her, he just pulled up the wrong picture
nah
Anyone else refreshing their subscriptions page waiting for Phil's latest video?
Quite regularly, yes.
Katie McGowan I was too
no cause notifications
No
Yeah I actually was
Thanks for clarifying the timeline on the series of events of that night Phil. All I kept hearing was an hour.
It is sad I knew the twist to the Thelma story before the entire story ended. I feel like we get on of these stories every week at this point but this is one of the most ridiculous.
CommandoPanda that's what makes it even sadder that such ridiculous stories are common, people are sick in the head these days
Yeah, i have a feeling that it’s those “locker-room” type of talk, where you just say whatever you want. I think trump understands.
ua-cam.com/video/CEpeqf0cXv8/v-deo.html
You know you are a long time Phil sub when you can tell if a story is going to have a twist by the inflection of his voice.
Keysh24 and the clickbait title
Right? I was just waiting for him to say it.
Black on black makes Phil look like floating heads and arms
4:33 that is not Bella Thorne
This girl actually pretty 😂😂
that may not be her but she is in the movie
I searched the comments to see if someone else caught that lol
its actually Samara Weaving, an aussie actress hahaha
Haven't seen Phil so fired up before.
Philly D was on fire this video 🔥
Between the analogy in the Tillerson story, and the way he responded to the Vegas shooters brother, I think this was his worst.
I prefer cool headed Phil by far. I'm afraid he might be going the way of Alex Jones if he keeps the flame going. Becoming Jones is a stretch, but you get the idea. TYT would be a better analogy maybe.
Ikiratuki I think he is just stressed because of the baby
