The bird is growing very faster. Great job💪. For make the wings structure mor stronger , its good to stick cardboard angle between the parts. If you have one Halinski model , you can check.

Instead of 1/16th balsa what if you used 1/16th modeling plywood. Yes its harder to cut but it should eliminate any cross grain problems. 1/16th is 5 or 7 ply. When a LHS closed years ago l bbn ought up every sf heet of modeling ply he had. He used to buy it in 4x8 sheets and cut it down to 2x4 and 1x4. It has come in handy for me over the years for all sorts of ptojects. When l hung new interior doors l used some of it to shim the jambs full length instead of just by the hinges.

That's a great idea. Maybe use my modeling jigsaw to cut it. It would be nice for stronger spars. Good thinking! -Dan

When l bought up what he had it came in 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/32nd and 1/64th. The 1/64th is 3 ply. If you look at the Midwest Profucts displays in Big Box or hardware stores the 1/64th is 3 or 4 times the price of the other sizes. And yes a scroll saw or modeling jig saw will cut it. I used to have a giuotine type paper cutter (1). Cut the 1/32nd and 1/64th like butter.
      1) Wife saw that and it was "what do you need that for!".
