- I’ve gone back and forth about making this video for a while, out of concern it would be taken as me complaining about my success. The success I’ve enjoyed in my 30s is wonderful. And it’s still something I’m wrapping my head around.

Truth. Just because you find someone attractive or entertaining or they smiled at you doesn’t give you the right to invade their personal space. And so many that do are complete hypocrites.
And that includes in comment sections. Some people are just weird and that's why it's so important to have personal boundaries.

I don't get people who say performing celebrities owe something to them. Celebrities perform - you get their performance and provide audience to them. That's it. No one is entitled to more. Normal people don't go touching, stalking and harassing doctors, teachers, nail techs, insurance brokers etc while they are minding their own business (I assume they don't; if they do, I'm so sorry). Let people of all occupations just be people while they are off duty.

I was scared to approach you at the renfair this year. I do want to say that seeing your dad perform 30 years ago when I was 16 was awe inspiring, and I got to share that experience with my son this year when he is 16 watching you perform, and I want to say thank you. I would have told you then but I have social anxiety. If you could also tell your dad thank you for sharing his talents with the world, I would greatly appreciate it.

Just wanted to say "Thank you" for one of the things you've done with your fame. Back 2 years ago, you visited my class and did a few Kahoot questions with them. I still get students today who see the video and say, "NO WAY! Jacques Ze Whipper was here!!!!" It really created something fun and magically around the start of the semester and for future students who find the video.
I know the video isn't a viral video on UA-cam but for each student who stumbles across it or who was there live, it really brightens their day.

You're handling fame pretty great to be honest. You're humble and empathetic and fixing boundaries as you go. Totally get the need to recharge and have time to just be you, I wouldn't even say it's a fame thing, you can't pour from an empty glass. Don't spread yourself to thin. Man being "on" all the time is so draining. Definitely set those boundaries for yourself so you can rest and refresh and be there with your friends and family.
Went to my first renaissance festival this summer. My kids insisted we see your show. I’m so glad they did, I LOVED it and have been watching your channel ever since. Thank you for making me laugh and smile on a regular basis.

Dear Jacques, every introvert understands the "social tiredness" you describe. You can love people & have gratitude for your current situation of fame, and still need time to be a healthy human being who is simply existing in the quietness of life; not constantly performing. The majority of your fans will understand this and respect this, I hope.

I was thinking about all this after I saw you live the first time this summer. I was overwhelmed by the crowds… and I believe you deserve the success after seeing what you do. But 4 shows a day twice a week in the heat with hundreds of people screaming, pushing and testing boundaries. I hope you remain successful and all this keeps manageable for you.
Thankfully, Maryland ren faire grounds are in the woods and mostly shaded.
@@ferretyluv there are only a few stages in CO that get decent stage. The crown stage where they put Jack is not one of them… and has other issues.
I wish more people understood that it costs nothing to be kind, to be respectful, and to be understanding. You embody all three and I wish everyone else did too. It would be such a nicer world and far better for those who put themselves out there to bring others joy. I’d also like to say that just because you can physically protect yourself & put a stop to interactions that are uncomfortable, doesn’t mean you should have to. They shouldn’t be occurring in the first place. People really need to stop being such hypocrites. IYKYK. It’s just so disrespectful to you, your wife, and your relationship.

As someone who got to meet you this summer at the Washington State Renaissance Faire, I tried stumping you with the piano man 😂, I found your picture line wonderful. Quick, efficient and yet personable. I do line management and autograph lines - along with pictures at a lot of events and was very impressed - you having long arms probably makes selfies easier 😊 KEEP Doing it the way you need to 👍 Hope to catch another show in the future.
There's only so much energy to go around every day. You do need to hold some of that energy back for yourself.

I'm an activist which similarly ends up with members of the public pushing boundaries, and I've often thought about how gender affects our work. Female members of our group have been dragged along the ground by security, people put arms around them, trapped their feet between their legs, and being a guy that lifts weights I basically never experience the fear of being physically over powered. It's why I'm always happy to draw aggro, because like you said I can make physical distance a lot easier then a woman my age.
But what do you do ?
I equate being an activist with being a bully, as in going around forcing your beliefs and ways onto others.
@@sorbabaric1 currently we educate people on the horrors of the cruise industry and disrupt cruise ships in non-violent ways.
And all laws could be described as "Forcing your beliefs on others." We see ourselves as a fire alarm, waking everyone up to let them know what's wrong. We're disruptive because the Climate Crisis is kmpoetant. We're "pushy" because otherwise nothing gets done. The climate march, occupy Wallstreet, protests against Donald Trump, they did nothing. The Suffragets? The Abolitionists? They made change.
I am probably not the only one, but I am one of the few who had no idea who Chapelle Roan is and knew who you were Jacque. You're A list in my book :D

Yes, there’s actually guy YT creators who get 50K comments with only one or two being negative, they’ve mentioned that themselves. Even Seth Myers said he was scared to read the comments, but when he did, he was genuinely surprised by how nice they were, & thus “Corrections” was born specifically for UA-cam.
Gal creators have to get ahead of the comments & delete, if they don’t, you can get a glimpse into some seriously deprived minds.
I swear to god his cat is more famous than him at this rate but who's caring? 😂

If you’re an extrovert, it may have been easier to handle a lot of socialing. The experience you’ve had of being over-people’d is the same as what introverts have all the time, so it’s totally not weird! I’m glad you’re learning to adjust to make sure you have your introvert time. ❤

I have been Lucky enough in my life to meet several famous people, hockey players, comedians,rocks stars and other musicians and I have Always been respectful. These are real people like anyone else, they just have a job that makes you happy (& hopefully them too!) Treat people the way you want to be treated and life is good. Some of us can't easily get to one of your shows but know that when we do, as long as we treat you with respect you will be kind to us. My husband and I first saw your show back in I think 2015 or 2016 at KRF and would quote to each other constantly "If you wanna see the whip show say oui oui" Then were shocked years later for you to show up in UA-cam recommended. I'm glad you've had such wide online success and for the most part positive fan experiences!

Your photo line process (seen this year at NJ Ren Faire) was a master class. Did not feel "rushed" got a great picture, so that balancing at was wonderfully done. It's sad some people feel emboldened to say or do reprehensible things online or in person. You do make many many people happy so I wish you continued success.

Those photos of people waiting in line to get a photo with you were certainly eye-opening! I had no idea you were that beseiged. Maybe that’s an overly strong word but it looks so intimidating to have that many humans waiting for your attention. It’s astonishing. I’m also so sorry and sad that some people (very few, I hope) are nervy enough to touch you… That seems so offensive to me! I think “boundaries” will have to be your keyword from now on, Jack. As for staying in touch with family and friends, I wonder how you would feel about using those long hours driving from place to place to make those phone calls? Of course, that’s also good time for regrouping and being quiet. I learned a lot about your experiences with fame in this video. Thanks. Hope the Maryland Ren Faire is good to you this year.

Thank you for adding your voice to the conversation! As an elder fandom lady it's been concerning to me to see how fans behavior/boundaries/expectations have changed in the past 10-15 years or so. My friends who are raising little fans say that they talk about parasocial relationships with their kids and how to behave.
I just have to say me and my family loved you in texas and very grateful for the selfie you did with us, it made my 2 children's day that is all they talk about now. Mom watch me whip I'm Jacques ze whipper
I think it is lovely (and I am glad you shared the stories) that you recognize the feelings that you have the power to evoke in your fans, positive or negative, and that those feelings can follow you for a long time. I have the utmost respect for celebrities that understand this, and always strive to be kind and gracious to fans who approach them, even if it is to decline a photo or autograph for whatever reason. That being said, I also have respect for fans who recognize that their favorite celebrities are actual humans with thoughts and feelings and busy schedules, and can be brief and respectful even when they are super excited to meet a celebrity. SHAME on the people who feel entitled to assault another person, male or female, verbally or physically, by putting hands on them or making inappropriate comments about their body without EXPRESS CONSENT. Period. Be ashamed and learn to do better if you think you are entitled to that.
Everyone needs work life balance, everyone needs time to exhale, everyone needs time to just be. No one should need to apologize for taking time for self care.

Also thanks for acknowledging the difference between what you and what women and femme presenting folks go though. I’ve had to send screenshots of what I get on IG to some of my male peers to illustrate the difference between my experience and theirs. They were rightfully horrified, I was like “well that’s just a Tuesday for me” 😂

I've definitely started to experience the not so great comments and interactions being a newer content creator (about a year), and then look at my partner's comment section which is overall much more friendly, so the bit where you mentioned the difference between men and women creating content really hit home when looking between he and I's channels😅

That is incredibly wholesome that you make sure to say something to your fans, so that they don't have the same feeling you had of being ignored by someone you looked up to! As someone who speaks softly enough that I've been accidentally or on purpose ignored while making eye contact, its rough even when you don't want an autograph!
I met Billy West (voice actor = 'Futurama', Red M&M, and MANY more) at a convention w/ my husband years ago. No one was around him (to our shock), so he was incredibly nice enough to not only sign an autograph for us, but also perform some of his famous characters & have a small conversation with us. It not only made our whole day, but still stands out to me as, hands-down, one of the best celebrity encounters of my whole life. He was seriously just one of the nicest, kindest, most down-to-earth and warmest persons I've ever met. I still have such positive feelings about it years later. He's such a big name (as far as voice actors go), but still took the time to not only act like a decent human being, but be incredibly kind and friendly as well. I understand it can't always be easy being ANY kind of a celebrity - but a tiny bit of extra humility can make a good impression on someone and stay with them for a lifetime.

Talking about the lunch with your friend, that brings up another point: it speaks chapters to your integrity by how you treat a celebrity, but it speaks volumes more by how you treat the other people with that same celebrity. The fan that saw you and said “hey, just wanted to say I love your content, have a good day” is respectful, a different fan shoving their phone into your friend’s hand demanding they take your picture would have been wholly inappropriate and unacceptable.
I do not understand why people treat celebrities so shamelessly. Celebrities are, first and foremost, PEOPLE. They’re not exhibits.

Hey! I been going to Ren Faires all my life. I'm have my first job in high school was on the cast for the GA Faire. But I don't understand the economics. Maybe you could do a short video about how performers make a living? At some faires I go to after the show they ask for tips and I feel like that's the main way that they're making money at those faires. But then I go to other places and they never asked for tips. So I guess that they are contractually obligated not to ask and they're making their money through a contract. Is this true?
