don't know if it happens with others but sometimes I find music that's SO good that it makes me tear up. It rarely happens and Hiroyuki Sawano's songs (HS) have managed to do that more than once. 86's (anime) ending song "Avid" by the same composer is one of those songs.
Another composition from Hiroyuki Sawano that always makes my eyes leaky is "Ramdom-E". It's a theme he composed for a Japanese Drama called "Marumo no okite" (Marumo's Rules) a few years ago. The show itself has some sad and bittersweet moments, and when the theme comes in at those parts it hits you right in the feels.

This angel-like voice in the beginning combined with the sound behind it... i tear up EVERY single time it comes up and i've listened to this soundtrack at least 1000 times throughout the serie's airing time. Especially having every single scene from the anime in my head where this song comes up makes it even more epic.

If she loves the mix of classical and rock instruments, Japanese music is definitely going to scratch that itch more. Xenoblade and Final Fantasy 14 are two examples that are full of that sort of thing. Hell, one of the Xenoblade games (X) was composed by Sawano, but they all like to mix different musical styles. Headphones are a good bet for this stuff too because there's often panning and other stuff mixed in to really add more meaning to the music and make each instrument distinguishable in a large mix.

Your mom thought Laco is the same as Eliana, maybe because of the similarities of their voices. When I was still not that familiar with Sawano's singers, I thought the same. I thought Eliana was the one who sung Nexus from Promare the first time I heard it. Their voices are very similar on Ninelie.

I resisted Attack on Titan because I considered it too commercial, in the same way I would resist Naruto or Dragon Ball. Error. This anime talks about deep issues, about the miseries of the human being, about our fears and resentments, about how we destroy what is really valuable in exchange for... miseries. I put it perfectly next to Ghost in the Shell, Monster, Evangelion, etc.
