Helens humanity is such a positive mirror of micks. As a fan I nominate her to be made the on location archaeological director. She is a most logical and most deserving successor to him in my opinion.
Oh absolutely. Mick's irreplaceable, but if there is anyone to fill the role it'd be Helen Geake. Kind, curious, smart, infectious enthusiasm, she has it all.
Being from the US, I was late to Time Team, just discovering it recently. My wife and I have visited the UK and Europe many times, seeking out history and culture, so the show has been a godsend during these trying times. I hope that the reboot goes well, and that some familiar faces will make some guest appearances, at least. Thank you all
That was absolutely delightful. I love the little tidbit about the promise of champagne, not to mention the update on the translation. As many others have said, Helen is such a joy.
Finding the braid was all the more poignant because the camera immediately zoomed in on Raksha wearing her own hair in virtually identical braids. Hundreds of years between the woman in the grave and the woman excavating her, different languages, different ways of life and yet... same hairdo. This is the episode I tell people about when T.T. comes up, I love it to bits.
1400 years between them, that lady was walking the earth at the same time that muhammed was converting whole towns to islam, crazy something so delicate from that long ago
Wow looks like they noticed they had a brand with legs, not just a old documentary show. You can join on Patreon and support their work. (One of the uploads of the Finds on the Fairway episode is 7 years old!)
There was just something poignant about seeing that girl with her hair braided and lovingly placed around her shoulder. It humanized the gravesite even more than it already was...that and the ancient script on the stone made this episode the most memorable for me.
They now think that one of the words originally translated as 'back' (corner) is actually 'Mac' meaning 'Son of' therefore the slate could be a grave marker with someone's name (very rare for that period)
@@scrabt8592 And there seemed to be a reference to the band of 50 warriors who accompanied Godred Crovan, when he set himself up as the first king of the Island.
In the episode they said it was BAC OCOICAT IALL, so "corner" "fifty" "group", or something similar. However, it has been hypothesised that the stone was damaged and part of the inscription had gotten lost, most notably because there is a large gap between BAC and OCOICAT, and the word 'fifty' should've been COICAT, so there's a stray O in there. There's a blog post from 2008 in which someone has a closer look at the inscription. Their idea is that the inscription would be in the format "[X], son of tribe [Y]", as has been found on memorial stones. If that's the case, then the inscription could actually read "A[?] MACI MUCOI CATIALL", or translated "A[?], son of the tribe of CATIALL".
We absolutely understand the frustration. Unfortunately there isn't a simple solution as existing regional licensing agreements put limitations on how and where specific episodes and series can be distributed throughout the world. It's not straightforward, but we are reviewing the situation and hope to be able to make more episodes available in more regions, as and when we can. All of the additional behind-the-scenes content on this channel should be available without restriction in every region. Please bear with us while we do our best to make Time Team available wherever you are! Best wishes from the team.
I was wondering what that stuff was as well. Some sort of salt or perhaps residue of something that used to be there. If it was it must have survived longer than the flesh because it was the mandible joint too.
Its very interresting how history brings customs on for ages… when i heard the word used as kiln or keil i suddenly got my mind on the word cella, a origin for cell … it was originated in the greco- roman period resembling the inner room of a temple .. a cell … i found a very good description on it at Wikipedia.. posting it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cella
Hopefully we'll be seeing more of Helen when things get going. Always loved her infectious smile and boundless enthusiasm.
Same here. I'd feel guilty picking a favorite Time Team member but, well, it would be Helen. She's a downright charismatic communicator.

@@wich1 mick personally picked her to be on the show, doesnt get more clearly endorsing than that :)
Love the series.

Good to see Helen again.

Great to see Helen looking ageless, she never seems to get older .

Helen is just great. She is so interesting.
This brings back the excitement of the fantastic finds uncovered at this very important site. Thanks, Helen
Loved your show so glad to see you guys again. Ohio (across the pond.)
My favorite episode, well one of them anyways! Helen looks great, always interesting to listen to and her infectious smile.
Excellent! Keep bringing the commentaries! Time Team is my obsession for the end of 2020 :)

My all-time favorite

Helen Geake, you are ageless. You look great compared to seeing you in that episode. 🙏👍💖🎄
Helen you are the best!
What is it about Helen's voice? I just love to listen to her talk.
I ❤ Helen.
Has there ever been a further excavation of any Time Team site???
A part of the text explains the use in early christian periods meaning small chapels or monks cells.., and mentions the kelt angloword keill as such…
I couldn't what Helen said the correct translation of the ogham was? Did anyone else catch it?

@@scrabt8592 Thank you indeed! That was just the last brick in the puzzle for me on this very interesting excavation. How very interesting.

'fifty vikings(?) at the corner could mean fifty Vikings(?) gather here?(To worship?)
Helen best come back
Guys what happened to all Victor's drawings? I would be happy to have one

This is where a VPN could come in handy.
Need Ogham's Razor? :-)
What was the white Thing over the skull and jaw of the lady with hair?? It look that she had something who cover tha face

Why were the guys so aggressive
Please please please ditch that awful electric version of the theme tune. It hurts my poor autistic ears.
I agree. The original was perfect. The new one sounds cheap and tacky and hurts.
Oh my word. I am getting tired of hearing that phrase, 'take-away.' To me a take-away is fast food, like going to get a chinese curry or a kebab.
