“What drives Donald Trump, in his own words, is a persistent, obsessive fear of losing status and being seen in public as a loser.
In a series of interviews conducted in 2014 for a biography, Trump “always seems to return, in one form or another, to the theme of humiliation,” the Times‘s Michael Barbaro writes.
Trump recalls instances in which acquaintances made fools of themselves, or whose star power diminished, and he promptly lost all respect for them without stopping for a moment of sympathy or reconsideration. Meanwhile, those close to him reveal that when he has been bested by others in a public setting, “his response can be volcanic.”
The tapes reveal that Trump’s fear of public humiliation is a continuous pattern throughout his life, although Trump himself seems unaware since he is not given to introspection:”

Well, they do differ in one important way... Gatsby may have embellished parts of his life, and completely fabricated others. However, unlike Donald Trump Gatsby wasn't born wealthy, and actually made profits (even though it was often through thing like bootlegging) once circumstances allowed him to do so.

I think I read somewhere (years ago) that she was a serious competitive skier, like skiing for her country. However, since I now know that Trump's current wife did not have the credentials Trump claimed she did, I question whether or not Ivana was really a world-class skier.
I have the (unconfirmed) thought that maybe he didn't like business, maybe he felt compelled/forced to go into the field and hated it. He perhaps truly just wanted to be an actor or something TV-related.

That's one of the most plausible theories that I have heard. Children can come under huge pressure from parents when the time comes to think about leaving school and choosing a career to go into. The more successful the parent, the more pressure they put onto the child to choose something where they can be as successful as the parent. I experienced this myself from my own successful parents and I felt I was forced onto a path that I didn't like. The choices I made then have haunted me now for 25 years and I wish I had stood up to my parents and chosen my own path.
Looking at all the footage of Donald Trump that I have seen in the last few months I cannot say that I've ever seen a man who is truly happy with his life. He has a measure of success for sure, he has some money, he has businesses and a beautiful wife and at least one beautiful child, he has a lovely home or three. By most peoples standards he is successful, but the hunted and driven look on his face says e's always looking for something new because he's not really happy with what he's got already.

-Hillary Clinton supported a military coup against a DEMOCRATICALLY elected President in Honduras.
-Hillary knew Saudi Arabia and Qatar are funding ISIS years ago and still took alot of donations from them
-Hillary is pro TPP in her leaked emails. But thats her "private position". TPP is a big disqualifier. It takes away big rights of the American people and gives it away to big companies. A BIG disqualifier.
-Hillary is the main reason for chaos and death in Lybia.
-Hillary wants a no-fly-zone in Syria which means according to a General 100,000 American soldiers must be sent there. And it's according to many people a very dangerous thing to do including Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein. Because of this Jill Stein said in an interview she thinks Hillary Clinton is more dangerous than Trump. Hillary says she wants to help Syrians but to Goldman Sachs she said a no-fly-zone would cost many Syrian peoples lives.
So yeah I dont really understand why anyone would vote for Hillary. Trump wants even a better releationship with Russia. And I also agree that illegal immigrants must be deported and try to enter legally. Hillary wants open borders according to leaks. Sorry for my bad English im a muslim from Turkey.

I think both are horrible, but I think Trump's too much of a risk because he is insecure, incompetent and immature. He can't control his temper for over 10 minutes, can't accept facts and the truth about anything negative about himself and defends himself by insulting the other person, he acts like he's going to walk over all the other world leaders and that they'll magically start listening to him because "he's such a great man" and he won't even prepare for the debates. If he won't even do that, then how's he going to prepare to meet with the leaders of the world? He's already proven that he can't hold his own ground when meeting with the president of Mexico and barely mentioning the wall.
I just see it this way, if Hillary wins, there's a much better chance of her being persuaded by all the liberals and progressives in DC to do the right thing, than there is of Trump listening to anyone.

I'm not really a big Donald fan, but going what I see of him in interviews, I see him as someone whose instinct is to fight to the bitter end. I believe he simply needs to use that instinct with something that's beneficial to him as well as other people. Even if he doesn't "win" in the end, it's still time well-spent.
Instead of being born on 3rd base, Trump was born on home plate and though he got a home run. The reality is that he has to even swing.
There are more deserving people to feel bad for.

Why does the author you're citing always call Trump "Mr. Trump". With most news writing and biographies you use a full name in the first reference and then just the last name in subsequent references: Trump. At least that is what we were taught in Journalism classes. Has that changed too?
