Traveling from Shinjuku to Hakone, traveling from Shinjuku station to Hakone.
This is guide movie for foreign tourists wishing to visit Hakone, Odawara.
If you want to reach there fast, I recommend to ride “Romance-car”, Limited Express by Odakyu Line from Shinjuku Station.
In this content, you will see how to go to Hakone from Shinjuku Station and how to get information center for foreigners.
You get off JR Shinjuku-station, and via Central West Gate,
you buy the ticket for Hakone of Limited Express of Odakyu Line.

From Shinjuku to Hakone ( Mar. 2023〜)
・Limited Express Surcharges: 1,200yen (e-tickets: 1,150yen)
・Regular Fare: 1,270yen
About 80min.
If you want to go to Hakone or Odawara cheaper,
you can take Express train, Not limited express. No need Romance car surcharge, and you’ll see locals life style.
From Shinjuku to Odawara, about 90min. And Odawara to Hakone-yumoto, about 15min.
The railway company suggests to get “Hakone freepass”, discount ticket including round fare from Shinjuku to Hakone.

If you just arrived in Narita new Tokyo international airport,
you go to Tokyo, and transfer to JR Chuou Line.
Or, you go to Nippori, transfer to JR Yamanote Line.
These lines take you to Shinjuku.
If you arrived in Haneda Tokyo international airport,
you go to Hamamatucho, and transfer to Yamanote Line.
There are many another choices to Shinjuku Station.

It might be easlier get to buy a Hakone Freepass at Shinjuku station, and buy Romance Car tickets there too, instead of trying to figure out online.

if i purchased the romancecar surcharge in advance, I still need to buy a regular ticket. can I simply tap my phone with Suica to enter the train, and have the website booking on my phone on the train?
If you have purchased Romance car ticket =a limited express ticket in advance on the website, you can take the your reserved Romance car by simply touching your Suica at the ticket gate.
The Romance car ticket and fare are separate, and a Romance car surcharge and fare are required to take the Romance car your booked.

Do you just hold the limited express card to the machine where you normally scan your suica card to enter the platform?
If you have Suica card, you can enter the platform.
When you enter the platform with Suica and Romance car ticket, you can ride the limited express. The entry gate machines check Suica card only.
If you have not Romance car ticket yet when you enter platform, you can buy the limited express ticket at the platform. But you need operate automatic vending machine to get reservation of seat.

@@Silopriest I think no need to touch Suica at the gate machine. But, please show the Hakone freepass at the entrance gate. Hakone freepass price includes regular fare of Odakyu line for Hakone, Odawara.
Only some travel agency sell Hakone freepass including Romance car surcharge.

You need to enter your freepass in the ticket gate to get to the train, and again if you want to leave the station in hakone-yumoto

Thanks your attention. Romance car drives by Odakyu railway company, Not JR company.
Then you can’t use JR-pass.
JR-pass is only for JR-line.
If you want to Hakone by JR-pass, I think you will get on Tokaidou-line of JR to Odawara station, and get on Odakyu line from Odawara to Hakone.

I think 3-days pass include regular fare, but Romance car, limited express surcharge is Not include.
I recommend you will show your Hakone pass at Shinjuku station.

Romance car more expensive .is it faster ? .the hakone free pass does covrr normal train .
