Indeed, there are a very large number of Tex-Mex places anywhere you go. If you have a significant Hispanic population, there are taquerias on every other block or strip mall. It's inexpensive, easy and fast, and generally very tasty.

To create a fusion of Mexican and Scottish flavors in a taco, prepare haggis and chorizo tacos with whisky salsa.
    Ingredients:
Filling: Haggis, chorizo, onion, garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, pepper.
Whisky Salsa: Tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, Scottish whisky, salt.
Tacos: Tortillas, lettuce, cheddar cheese, sour cream.
    Instructions:
Cook the Filling: Brown chorizo, then sauté onion and garlic. Add haggis, combine with chorizo, season, and cook.
Make the Salsa: Mix tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, whisky, and salt.
Assemble the Tacos: Warm tortillas, add filling, top with lettuce, cheese, whisky salsa, and sour cream.
Serve: Enjoy the fusion tacos with extra lime wedges.
This dish combines the hearty flavors of haggis with the spiciness of chorizo and a unique whisky-infused salsa.

Tex-Mex is a modification of traditional Mexican food that was popularized in Texas. Sit a Californian, a Texan, a New Mexican, and an Arizonan together and ask where the best Mexican food is, and watch the sparks fly. But, as an Arizonan, I would say, I've gotten amazing tacos in all of of those states. But also, Mexican food culture is so ingrained in the US, you can find good tacos in just about every state these days.

Tex-Mex is the most common style of “Mexican” food in the US. Sometimes, you get lucky and there is a separate Mexican menu that has traditional Mexican food. A Mexican taco does not look like a Tex-Mex taco. They are each delicious in their own way. Monday’s special is a relleno pepper stuffed with beef. I like those too.

In California it's just called Mexican food. Like TexMex the Mexican food in Cali is very popular. In LA they have food trucks driving/parking around that have the most amazing tacos and other Mexican-style food you'll ever eat. The little hole-in-the-wall places have the best food. In America, we often mix and match the styles of food. Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Filipino, Italian, Brazilian, French, German you name it. We love it all. Every immigrant group that comes to America brings their food and we absorb it all!

Andre, the mashed beans are called Frijoles Refritos or refried beans. The beans are put in a pan that has bacon grease, then they are mashed, and fried in the bacon grease. In San Antonio, we have an ongoing thing where we compete with Austin, to see who has the best tacos. We always win. Some people up north think Taco Bell is Mexican food that's a BIG NO!

No kidding! San Antonio is extremely old. She was given her name in 1691, I believe. San Antonio is in the county of Bexar (pronounced *Bear County). There were numerous battles here. Almost every building downtown is haunted. Wait until you learn about our regional myths such as La Chusa, Chupacabra, the San Antonio ghost tracks (debunked ~supposedly), and the ghost of Our Lady of the Lake - our wailing lady here. 😱 ...😂
Fun Fact: It's 96F or 35.5C. Says it feels like 105F or 40C. Summer doesn't begin until June 20th! 😂

San Antonio, born and raised here. I've never eaten Lula's. Heard it was good. Our TexMex restaurant of choice is a place called Don Pedro's on Southwest Military Dr. The taste, serving size, and wait staff are AMAZING! There's also live Tejano/Spanish music on the weekends❤ *Tejano (pronounced Te- ha- no) is a Mexican American from South Texas.
Puffy tacos only in Texas....hmm... im not sure. I thought i saw puffy tacos at a restaurant in California near Hunting beach. Just checked and a family of Texans brought the Puffy tacos to CALIFORNIA FIRST though their restaurant, but they made them at home in Texas before they started their Cali restaurant.
We're hanging on to our Frozen Margaritas (started in Dallas, Texas). 😂

Pinto beans are cooked with garlic, onions, a ham hock or bacon, ancho chiles, jalapenos, oregano, cumin, tomatoes, salt, pepper, and beer! You can omit the beer if you want. Then later you can make them refried by letting them cook down so the liquid is gone and you mash them and add some cream or butter. Delicious!

In Texas, Charro beans are very popular too. These "cowboy beans" are not mashed but served whole, usually cooked with bits of barbecued beef brisket, garlic and onions - super yummy. I actually prefer Tex-Mex food to most traditional Mexican food. Texas Chili is to die for. Nothing like a beanless "bowl of red." We travel through TX at least once a year wintering over near the border where it's nice and warm.
We'll often make day trips across the border into Mexico as there are many things much cheaper in Mexico than in the US. We can get prescription drugs there for about 5% of what they cost in the US without a prescription too, so there's no need to see a doctor if you know what you need. Medical and dental and optical care is much cheaper there too. I had an impacted wisdom tooth extracted for only $80 including x-rays, and 2 injections in a state-of-the-art dental facility by a dentist who got his degree in a US dental school. Just the x-rays would have been more than that in the US. Many other things are cheap there too, such as: restaurant food, tequila, honey, vanilla, shrimp, etc. I get $2 shoeshines and my wife gets her hair done for only $6. The same lady's hairdo would cost $40-$50 here. You just need to know where to cross, as it can get dangerous at the wrong border crossings. We like crossing into Neuvo Progresso from TX and Los Algodones from Yuma, AZ as they are both super safe and friendly places. You should visit us one day.

I live in the Pacific Northwest in a town of around 25,000 people and we have probably a dozen VERY good Mexican restaurants. Call it Tex-Mex, or New Mexican, or Cali, it's all good.

Andre! You are hooked on food! It is so much fun. Nothing Tex Mex knowingly passes my lips. It I am warned I order milk to drink and Sour Cream ! If I can get something that is not high in capsicums, I have to be seating a tee shirt or get those Elizabethan collard they use for injured animals to catch the juice that is trying to season my elbows.

Remember Andre the coffee is free refills so the prices for soft drinks sodas and coffee maybe a little more expensive because of the "free refills" Yes I love tacos of all different kinds.. Mexican style, Tex-Mex style - soft tortilla tacos, and also hard crispy tacos... Also portion sizes of the food plates in the USA are bigger size which is another reason why prices maybe a little bit higher. MORE food on your plate! Taco plates also you get a side of refried beans and also Mexican or Tex-Mex style rice so you get the tacos plus the two sides. The tortilla chips and salsa is free and included in your meal also.

Tex-Mex is a style of food. It originated in Texas and takes Mexican influences and gives them a Texan style. You can have Tex-Mex all over the US but that doesn't mean it's as good as you can get it in Texas.
