Another great script and story penned by series creator Nat Hiken and the prolific and talented Tony Webster. Everyone loved Shari Lewis, who was 28 when this was filmed. She was perfectly cast here not only because she's just a perfect person but also her 5' stature against Gwynne's 6'6". Lewis, besides being an actress and ventriloquist, was also a writer. Among other things, she co-wrote the Start Trek Original Series episode The Lights of Zetar. She wanted to play the part of Lieutenant Mira Romaine (Scotty's love interest -- a departure from the predictable babe-of-the-week-for-Kirk formula) but the role was given to Jan Shutan.
Shari Lewis was very beautiful here but one reason why I watched this episode was to see a very young Sorrell Booke who played the police commissioner. He was a great character actor and I always enjoy watching him in different shows and he was great in the early episodes of M*A*S*H as General Barker but argurably his most famous role was playing Boss J.D Hogg on The Dukes Of Hazzard which he was fantastic in!
@@torridd Yes and Sorrell was also great in the season 6 Columbo episode The Bye-Bye Sky High I.Q. Murder Case were he played the murder victim and Theodore Bikel played his murderer!
@@SallySallySallySally In fact there was another black officer in this very episode, when Muldoon was trying to pal around with the two tall officers to avoid being seen with Toody.
SORRELL BROOKE, POLICE COMMISSIONER HARPER, AKA JEFFERSON DAVIS HOGG (BOSS HOGG) THE DUKES OF HAZZARD! The Dukes of Hazzard is an American television series that aired on the CBS television network from January 26, 1979 to February 8, 1985.
That was Shari Lewis playing Melinda, Shari was a stunning little woman and pretty good puppetier with her little lamb "Lambchop". I watched her show with my kids. Didn't see your comment Victoria Rose or I would have answered it. :)
I wondered if if was the same Shari Lewis who shot to fame later as a ventriloquist in later years! This episode doesn't feature Toody very much I notice.
Yes - and the police commissioner was Sorrell Brooke who played Boss Hogg in The Dukes Of Hazzard. In the early to mid 60's I never missed an episode of Shari's children's show. I was in my teens when the show first aired in Perth, Western Australia. Thankfully she had several prime time specials where I saw a whole new side of Lambchops.
Anne Dow writes to NY board of trade. Maureen finds out by those chic chicken Rance's that Biden Grinch call this statement because he didn't know more the Chicago board of trade by on the road to Shalimar
By uncle Jimmy it was Maureen sponsorship trust fund coded like badlands Ukraine trust fund. His false face of Chicago presidency imposition didn't know our Tracey's agents
Uhhhh.... Where's Sylvia??!! Oh Em Gee...did i just see Leo dancing with a blonde dame and not his pussycat??!! And Gunther and Francis chemistry seemed way off in this 😢

I KNEW she looked familiar!! I wish she had brought Lambchop 😍
Shari Lewis ! WOW, I watched her as a kid, loved her and Lamb Chop, still do :)
Very underrated show
Paul Reed was an amazing supporting actor.
Muldoon and Schauzer- Who knew they'd be Herman Munster and Grandpa!

He was also pretty good in the Johnny Cash Columbo episode.

I know Fred Gwynne was tall, but I never knew Shari Lewis was such a tiny little peanut! But she was absolutely adorable.
I used to watch her in that skit she did with Lamb chop 😊
people used to dance together and even Look each another in the eyes BEFORE Cell Phone smh
She's lovely. This about my favourite episode.
Hilarious, comedy at it's height, ooh...ooh,ooh..ooh....
Great comedy one liners. Thanks for sharing the videos. Takes me back 50 years to a time that seemed so but was not really so innocent, only on T.V.
Shari Lewis looks so cute and adorable in this episode.
OMG, I'm in love...
How could anyone not love Shari Lewis?
I worked with Miss Lewis in summer stock...moons ago...she was living doll....just darling!!!!
WOW!
I believe that the only black police officer is Nipsey Rusell. Great actor and comedian. RIP everyone. ❤🙏
No there were many others. For example, Fred O'Neal, Ossie Davis, Mel Stewart, to name a few.

Sweet episode.

The Dukes of Hazzard, another hilarious sitcom. They used so many good actors and actresses in this show.
Tommy... thanks for bringing the attention to this. I did not recognize him without the southern drawl!! LOL

Always loved Shari Lewis since I was a kid watched her on TV growing up 😉
I live in México and I really like old american comedy shows like this one, the Munsters are next.
Great ending! I was ready to sock Muldoon for acting like such a wimp. LOL!!
Me too, but I was pretty sure his good manners would prove his worth in the end.
Shari lewis is just about the sweetest gal ever! How can you not fall in love with her!
What is Schnauzer doing with that other woman?!
Who is that Leo is dancing with it's not Sylvia 🤔

Sweet heart warming!!!!!
"How tall are you Herman?"
"Im 7 foot 4...in my stocking feet...when Im barefoot Im 7 foot 2...I wear very thick socks."
no advertisements!
I didn't see Toody and his wife at the dance?
I noticed that too in the episode. Maybe the actors weren’t available to film the scene
Did you say "Youts?"
So after getting up out of bed in the morning, that would make him 6f 8"!
I know that it is just a tv show but why didn't the fbi look at a school year book ?
kinda sad height isn't every thing it's hurtful she's so nice. fun and then things changed for the better good show good load thanks.
He was worried about standing out because the commissioner might think he was too tall for the police force
Shari Lewis. pretty,pretty,pretty! :)
Why would being tall be a problem for a cop?
Why would being too tall be a disqualifier?...Too noticeable for undercover work, maybe?
