I just saw this movie for the first time last night and I thought it was a very entertaining romantic comedy. I had never heard of Virna Lisi before and not only did she do a fantastic job with the role, she is one of the sexiest and most stunningly beautiful women I’ve ever seen. When they showed the close up of her face during her initial scene when she came out of the cake, I actually said “holy s**t” out loud! 😁
She was a really underrated performer. She felt she got typecast with this movie and decided to return to Italy to try other types of roles. But she was really good here. I mean when you can hold your own with Jack Lemmon and Terry Thomas, in comedy, that is saying something.
She OWNS this movie, & by the time her mother shows up to smile @ Terry-Thomas, so do the women. Lisi was smart to leave, she was the best Marilyn who wasn't Marilyn, but Hollywood was changing, where could she have worked in an Easy Rider, Bonnie & Clyde, Graduate, Virginia Woolf world?
