I once rode in a horse transport to bring a recip mare to a facility that received the embryo. Guess how iit was shipped?? IN A RABBIT! The pregnant mare was in England...the embryo was harvested and put into the rabbit, who was flown to the US, and implanted here! We joked that the foal would be a great jumper!!
😊😊😅 ❤🤗👋🇨🇦
seriously?? that’s wild lol, what would happen if the embryo was somehow just left in the rabbit 😅😅
@@bethkennedy_xjudydruetto
@@bethkennedy_x you dont wanna look into rabbits and pregnancy things. Just dont.
They couldn't ship it any other way?
Ok. This is for anyone who comes on this channel to give UNASKED for opinions about what Katie is sharing with us. No one cares about your opinion on breeding on the foal heat. You guys feel free to come here and bash her decision. You seem to think one unrelated incident should dictate all her decisions going forward. Did you not notice the vet there? She sought EXPERT medical opinion before making her decision. Had the vet noticed ANYTHING questionable, she would have made a different decision. And in the wild, they rebreed on foal heat naturally. These mares get the best care going forward, all the best nutrition , and she inspects each one daily for ANY signs of a problem. If needed, that vet is on speed dial to get there fast. I am sure she doesn't spare any expense if needed. At the end of the day, yes, it is a business. But her love and passion for the mares and babies come first. So give her a break and remember no one cares for your unasked for opinion! Oh, and don't forget you can leave and unsubscribe to her channel!
Lmao, it's a PUBLIC PLATFORM. Post it to a social media platform, expect to get unsolicited opinions. Period. 😂
Happens ALL over UA-cam and any other platform. 🤷🏻♀️
You don't get to dictate what is said, it's a public platform, opinions asked for or not are part of the deal.
Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean always that you SHOULD do something.
@@slmartin1957 Well .... Maybe the same thing could be said about Katie and this video. 🤷🏻♀️ Apply your own logic to that.
I'm not subscribed. And I follow fallon Taylor world champion barrel racer, who doesn't breed on foal heat 😅😅😅
The best part of your vet is he teaches. I hate vets who don’t share what they know. It doesn’t hurt that he is nice and handsome.
He IS A CUTE ONE!! 😊
I like your vet. Just saying. I worked at a clinic for years doing kennel keeping then worked as an assistant. I can spot a good vet. Hes a keeper!
He’s awesome!
“I might have to buy a recip to carry for Trudy”. Ok if you must. The more the merrier!
I love your vet. He’s so straight forward and says it like it is without treating you like you’re not as knowledgeable as he is.
A lot of vets are so superior but he’s just fabulous!
Maybe it’s more about where you come from?
❤
I’ve found equine vets understand the ranchers are out there day in and day out with those animals so they are usually just as knowledgeable, just don’t know the fine tuning aspects. I love big animal vets.
gingers little one is so stinking cute
Isn’t he 🥰
I’ve been a breeder of dogs and horses for years. I’m telling you, Ginger’s boy is a special colt.
So much better technology than when I was in vet school and worked on a breeding farm.
As a woman who's had way to many horror stories at the gyno visits..it makes me so happy to you using 'sleepy juice' other sedation, and other pain management during these things! Plus the extra love and pets as well. ❤
Agreed!!!! Human doctors seem to care a lot less!
I like watching this in reverse.. This is the making of teddy. ❤❤
Love Abigail. She is getting the hang of every thing. ❤❤❤❤❤
She’s smart, sweet AND funny! Love her and the guys too. ❤. Awesome team🎉
I like the way Beyoncé kind of jerked her head at you when you called her a deva. Getting the mommas all set up for babies, I don’t know how you keep it all straight.
It's all on computer. This is an industry like any other. Horses like all domesticated animals are commodities, profit making machines. Which is why I could never be, nor do I want to, be a breeder.
It's all on computer, like any other industry. Domesticated animals are commodities, profit making machines. This is why I could never be, nor do I want to, be a breeder. The life of a brood mare, just like a milking cow, is just one baby after another.
@kalayne6713 They definitely aren't in it for the money. A moral breeder doesn't make money. They are lucky if they break even. They breed horses to improve the Quarter Horse breed.
@@wolfie7051well said!
What is the vet pulling out of Ginger?
I love that both you and the vet explain everything and the way you care for each horse is so sweet ❤
Love seeing your smile, Katie. Prayers and hugs for continued healing and comfort for you and your family.
😊 I wish we had this technology in the early 80's. I went three years to get a Smooth Town baby. What a difference it is now.
Yes Smooth Town foals were gorgeous!!! The Greg Whalen days in the halter classes!!! I remember them well!!!
@@ovroyalty I was so fortunate to live right up the road from the Whalen's and had my very own Smooth Town colt. He was one that ll never be forgotten
Ginger is such a beautiful mare. She is going to have beautiful goals. 😍😍😍
I am just absolutely in love with Ginger. Her head is beautiful. Such a pretty girl. When that side shot of Freddy came up when y’all were talking about him in the stall, he is a perfect little man. 🙏🏼❤️
Now Doctor Matthew 😮 we’re going to have to have a talk!! How did you forgot Miss Special Ethel?!? She’s a 1 of 1! There’s no other Mare like her!! 🥰 I’m thinking maybe it’s because Ethel only flirts with Jonathan and Doctor Matthew is just a little jelly!! 😂
I think I would go nuts having to figure out who to breed who to or who to carry for who.
It's fascinating to see what all goes into breeding horses. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
I love the extended videos in YT! ❤thanks for sharing Katie!
Just started watch you, and I’m a city girl. Now I have to figure out all this jargon. This is all new to me!😊
Y'all catch on quickly just started watching a couple months ago
❤Ask away if you would like anything explained. Some of us would be more than happy to describe technical terms and. Equipment (tack) & equipment terms. 🐎
Katie, why don't you explain how complicated breeding is, how the numbers (... 2.5/3, etc) refer to uterus expanding to be ready to accept an overy or semen specimen artificially, the timing has to be so very precise: Breeding is a real expense. how much$$ do ovums and semen specimens cost. As you say in your video, "we can't lose a drop'"! You take great care and are so knowledgeable about all things running on your land. Excellent!
Eeeek. Missing the little wee ones is sad when they go off. And breeding the mamas is so fun to watch and see ❤. I need a chart. Who is Preggos and who is the daddy ! My LEWRD.
Same!
I'm really enjoying these AI and surrogacy videos. When I was still veterinary nursing and was doing equine work I was in the heart of thoroughbred country so there was no AI or surrogacy. I left the field a long time ago now, but it's still a lifelong interest area for me.
Yesss! Definitely want more content like this
Thank you for all the explanations you give I’ve learned so much from you I know the human side of these things….but grew up showing 4h and some quarter horse shows so this is absolutely amazing…someday I’m going to go to one of your meet and greets….
I am learning so much from your videos! Thank you for letting us peek in on all you're experiences...Great way to learn. Ive got my fingers crossed that my mare in going to check in foal 2 weeks from today!!!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞
So informative and interesting. I love the way you treat your horses. So kind and loving.
Katie is a horse breeder, her parents are breeders, and they ALWAYS call in the experts. That’s why they have such an exceptional breeding program, why her foals are bought every season because she uses exceptionally good bloodline sires. As with every breeding program there are injuries and deaths, and with Cool, she saw the vet frequently before her death, which was quickly. Look at what she has done with Seven. Most breeders would have put him down, he’s a male, rehab is going to be expensive, however Katie’s faith in God, her compassion for life, and her kind heart is doing everything possible for him. JUST BECAUSE IT’S A PUBLIC PLATFORM, it’s an educational platform for those looking to go into husbandry, so if you don’t have anything to help people, keep it to yourself.
This lady is amazing with all her animals ❤️
The girls did amazing ❤️
I just adore Ginger 🥰❤️. Freddie is absolutely precious! 🤗
Thanks for sharing
Love the breeding videos. Thanks for educating us.❤
Love this channel, been watching since early, early on, way back when it was just tik tok and facebook! Anyways just one thing I wanted to point out is that she tends to cut the vet off when he's trying to answer her question and she usually asks him another question so we don't get the original question answered. Not trying to be mean at all, I've just noticed it the last few videos with the vet. She is very intelligent and knows her horses very well and I enjoy watching. Just wanted to say something because I'm sure she doesn't notice.
Only been watching since she bought VS Code Red. Way back in the day (1970s) we raised some Appaloosas. None of the hi tech stuff available then.
And yes I've noticed the same thing. She doesn't let the vet finish. He's being technical and a lot of her followers aren't going to understand .
Maybe that's why
Me at age 78, I researched Embryo transplant and arrtificall insemination
Figured if I installed TicTok at my age. to keep better track of Seven. .. I could find out more about these topics. But a lot of her viewers need things more basic.
Who cares? Literally no one asked you. No one.
who asked you for your rude and unnecessary response? Get back under your bridge....
@@Peonies7878and nobody asked you for your snarky response, but here we are....
@@hilaryadkin904 well expect someone to call you out when you puke out your unkind comments.
Hehehe.. I’ve been thinking about you and the Loss of Cool.. I’ve been praying for you and your businesses. We love and support you and the family! I always look forward to your videos!
Sending good thoughts your way.❤❤❤
Love her coloring! All of your babies are gorgeous and very well cared for! ❤❤
Beautiful horses. ❤ you take such good care of all your animals. ❤
Yeah ginger!! Can’t wait to see the baby
I always look forward to your posts Katie! Thank you for sharing your sweet babies!❤
Love these UA-cam videos so much detail ❤ fingers crossed for a mid January filly for miss Ginger 🩷
Thanks for this great video!!!! Really interesting! He's a great vet. The best of luck with all your new babies to come! Every mare you have is exceptional! In every way❤🐎
This is so interesting. You guys are very blessed.
I can’t wait to see all the new pregnant mares!!!! breeding season will go great for you❤
I'm so thankful for your breeding stuff videos, I'm learning so much ❤
Lots of work but you definitely have what it takes.
I hope you can get a recip mare for Ginger, too, and have two of her gorgeous foals this year also!
She can’t, there wasn’t any synced up with her and now it’s too late to do the transfer
Very educational! I learned a lot on how the selections are made. Thank you for sharing! ❤
He's gorgeous
Im glad the biopsy wasnt painful for Gracie. I know it was when i had an endometrial biopsy...wish i had been sedated!!
I Love these extended UA-cam Videos, because they are much more detailed and your Vet does an Amazing Job of explaining what is going on. Yes it can get a bit confusing because you breed a Mare and then transfer it to another Mare.
Love your Horse. so Pretty
So soon! ❤
Ginger is absolutely a beautiful mare I love the colors on her the baby is beautiful too
I love your Vet. He is so good looking!!! Do you keep him on your farm fulltime? Does he have an office and just helps at your farm??? I would love a Vlog on yourVet if he could share his background ect???
He works at the Tennessee vet clinic. He has a full time job as a reproductive vet.
I joined this page last week and im finding it very interesting and katie you are so funny.. also hows babu seven doing hes such a trooper
You need a giant white board with all of these ha ha 🤣
I love listening to you work out the logistics. It’s fascinating!!
#replay your Vet is good looking easy on the eyes. Lol I love ginger cery pretty.
😆 I can't remember where I put my shoes much less keep all the specifics of animals in my head.
I hope you write all this down when your Vet leaves. I don't know how you keep track of everything. You're one amazing girl Katie. 💖💖💖
I miss seeing you with the minis❤❤I don’t have TikTok anymore I’m sure you’ve been posting them on there. Hope they’re still doing good. Oh and Ethel will always be my favorite, she’s so beautiful❤❤
I would love to know how often you preg check each species during their gestation.
Love your videos!
Wow really informative. My thanks 😃
Very interesting to watch. Sooo much to keep track of!
Always so interesting and educational.
Embryo transfers were just starting when I was in college 1987. Was going to Colorado state to finish my degree but life changed .
I have had a biopsy before and it was the worst thing I've ever experienced and will 100% be asking for sedatives if i ever need one again!! If they can do it for horses, they can do it for humans
They did mention sleepy juice I thought
@@michellemelville8979 that's my point
Your surgeon must have done something perhaps questionable. A biopsy should cause no more discomfort during when a doctor slips in a pacemaker. Make a small incision, harvest a small amount of material and quickly close. Surgeons freeze the area of interest. I am truly sorry you had such a painful & unpleasant experience. 🤔🤗🌺🌻
@@nancyadamson286 isn't it usually done with sedatives?
Here's something that will make you go hmmm. Freezing the site of harvest most usually leaves the area numb much like a frozen gum or tooth at the dentist. So a patient doesn't react to the incision usually, the patient reacts to the thought of the invasion, the psychological perception of perceived pain and the patient's loss of control even for the shortest time over her body. Some patients find the stress of this procedure overwhelming and may be given a light (10 mg) sedative to comfort them. I am sorry for your discomfort
and please ask for anything to a help the overwhelming feeling of need for support in any surgery procedure. Our little missus get a little cocktail that usually calm them so the ovum chanel remains open during the delivery of the specimen into Mama'sand has an open channel for the retrieval canister has a unobstructed .
Omg...my head is spinning.....I would be so confused....almost need a huge chart spreadsheet..taking it all.
We want more Ginger babies❤😅
A few years back I lost so much of my hair it seemed unreal. But my hair loss was do from all the stress I was having. It finally stop falling out and started growing back.
I got my Katie fix for the day ❤
Endometrial biopsies on a human hurt like the dickens. Hope the horses don’t have the same feeling. It is not a comfortable procedure.
I believe he said she was sedated. It was nice of him to make sure she didn't feel it .
@@zhummingbirdsedated horses still feel everything. You need numbing for them to not feel the pain.
Dang. Gracie got sedation for a uterine biopsy. I’ve had three and they never give sedation or any kind of anesthesia or even pain management at all! Human females don’t even get treated as well as horses!
its because humans won't kick a vet lol
@@Isobel201I won’t kick a vet, but there are no guarantees I won’t kick a gyn who’s tearing a chunk out of my uterus.
Ginger is stunning
I always laugh when Dr. Matthew is mic'd and we can hear his audio track in the background at the same time that Katie off is talking in a different area
Man, the sires got the Life of Riley compared to these Momma brood mares!! Blessings for healthy pregnancies and births!!
Selamlar, güzel video için çok teşekkürler 👍🙏🖐🇹🇷
I thought breeding goats was stressful but we can at least use CIDRs and time things. Not being able to say an exact day you're going to AI or flush would drive me crazy.
Hats off to you and all equine repro professionals!
Awe. Seems fast baby only 2 wks old..can he still nurse, will there still be milk. Does seem fast, but i dont know anything about horses..just learning since i found katie (but yes biopsies hurt, i am a mom of 5)
That would be yes.
Yes. Being pregnant does not affect the horses ability to produce milk.
I am new as well and I said the same thing! Poor mama can’t even get a break… 😭 But I’m just looking at this from a human perspective. ♥️
Give that poor horse a break for Christ sake.
Horses don’t work the same as humans.
Exciting❤
Beyoncé has such a beautiful head!
Love your videos
Loves the roan horses
Katie, your vet is gorgeous, katie. 😂.
I know right 😂😂
Can you please show us Cool Breeze next time you visit the vet clinic? ❤
What happens if you discover twins? Genuine question and zero judgement. Non horse person who is fascinated with Katie's horses and what I've seen of the breeding program
I always learn so much from your vids. I'm hoping for that copy paste too ❤
Good Jokin’
The making of Ted ❤
I kept trying not to notice the poop clumps.😂😂😂😂
That baby is beautiful! My question is don't the mares get a break from being pregnant after giving birth?
I just heard the vet say that retained placenta would prevent a goal heat breeding. Does this mean Trudy can’t be bred this year, but could still produce and embryo for a recip mare? Or would they just breed her on her next heat?
*foal heat
Just means we wouldn’t breed her on her foal heat
How many babies do most mares have with you? What is the age range that you breed your mares at?
Katie Van Slyke, it looked like Beyonce almost popped you one with her head when you said she had turned into a DIVA! LMAO!
Living up to her namesake. 😄
Your business with horses is interesting. Breeding back to back must have a flow of buyers. What sector are your foals for? Racing, dressage, equestrian, hunter? All of them? None go to meat packers right.
They don't race, so I think the various other equestrian activities - which depends on the breeding, conformation, and temperment.
I’d suggest just watching her other videos and her TikTok account. They’re breeding very high dollar horses. One foal from a few years ago is a 3 time congress champion. She owns VS Code Red, they breed to Machine Made, VS Good Ride. A bunch of others I can’t remember. Katie is a very ethical breeder.
So glad to see a video! Are you going to keep any of the foals from this year?
I can't remember where but she said after Hank, she wanted to keep the next baby Trudy no matter what gender it was and that's Daphne. And then Molly, because she is already moving really well and is good tempered and all those good things. I think... don't quote me lol
She has a tendency to keep the fillies unless the perfect family comes along. It's why she sold Hank. It was a great opportunity for him and Bailey. Anyway, she keeps a lot of the girls.
She said Molly & Daphne are her keepers for sure this year
@@sharileesprowls6215 isn't that what most horse breeder stew? Keep the females and sell the males.
Molly, Daphne, and Seven
Vet: does she need sedation or no?
Me in my head: no of course not Ethel is a perfect angel! 😂
I've ridden a horse once in my life at a dude ranch, do I watch all these videos yes. Do sometimes I think can I become a specialist in horse breeding? Yes. I'm a pharmacist 🤣🤣🤣
