I love Bo,he's a really Good Looking horse. He's a Paint,I follow another farm with paints and their mares foals. Bo is lively and friendly,a real sweetheart!!! Come on Molly lol
What Katie calls boring, i find fascinating!! Just because there's no drama doesn't mean it isn't compelling!! The horses are gorgeous and just watching them interact calmly and enjoy being horses is what i came for!! So stop calling them boring! 😂❤
I love how great you take care of your horses. Bobo looks freaking fantastic for his age. I've seen horses that are 14 - 15 that look super sway backed with their ribs showing and it's heart breaking. Love Running Springs for all their care of their animals.
Her little counter canter is so adorable! She wants to show what a big girl she is! I have a baby sitter mare and I would love to add a baby foal to the herd. She is just too old to be a brood mare.
This was definitely NOT boring! I love watching the everyday life with the horses. Thank you, Katie, for being such a great promoter of good equine care and management! Love, love, love your videos!
I had a mare like Maggie. Had enormous foals and gave them everything she got and more. Always had to wear at 4-5 months and hide her in the back forty until she fattened back up!
My big TB gelding is a lovely Nanny to foals! He just adores them and it’s so cute! You did so well with your weaning Katie, as you do with everything!
I agree with your method of weaning Katie, but you do what works best for you & your animals. It's none of our beeswax. Love your horses, mares & foals. Thx for sharing!❤️
Wonderful way of weaning - tho'tful & kind . I had one QH mare who was a great mom w/ big strong babies - she always started to " self wean " her babies at four months . We then went by the F. Almanac & the sign to follow thru on the weaning - good smooth experiences .
Love the foot wear. I wear the same when I'm at the barn. But I agree with you on the weaning process. We do the same. But like you said it works for us. But not everyone
I’m so happy you made a new post! I left Facebook I’ve been going through withdraws! Just couldn’t put up with all the scammers anymore. I subscribed to a few people and I am hoping that they can just post more on UA-cam!
I wish I was a little closer to this Ranch! Everyone and the horses... it just seems like a GREAT place to hang out. .... And I haven't been able to ride in more than 10+ years!!! I did work more recently with a rescue, taking care of a few horses. I love being around them :) I live in Martin, which is about 3 hours away? Maybe if I get a better car/motivation to drive...
I can see down the road a few years into future best boy and best babysitter Bobo teaching baby 7 the ropes to take over his best boy best babysitter position idk what Katie has planned and I know that's a very long ways aways just have this feeling that that's one of the reason baby 7 came out the little miracle he is
yea she said she don't even know if she's gonna register him cuz he's not ur normal "show horse" like the others .. he's just gonna be a pasture ordainment which is great i think!!
You're the horse whisperer my dear... Your confidence in knowing what is best for these beautiful animals is refreshing. I'm a 72 year old former horse woman and had to stick to my guns when the na-sayers would try to get in my business on my weaning tactics. Farmer's Almanac user also. You Go Pretty Lady!
Whole heartedly agree with your method of weaning, having studied the process as part of my Bachelor’s Degree in Equine Science, management & Training ❤
Molly is a tank!!! I mean look at her parents... Ms.Goody really said copy & paste!! I'm excited to see her future. She's definitely something special 😍
So Katie called counter cantering, cantering on the wrong lead..is it the wrong lead the wrong lead off foot? What is the wrong lead? I know nothing of this horse world, 😂 just what I've found out watching these vids for a about a month now. I have fallen in love with Katie and those gorgeous horses, big AND mini...the goats and the mini cows, and can't forget the donkeys too! 😂
I'm so happy Molly and Maggie have done so well with the weaning process. I also have a question, are you still gonna be posting any hunting content like the turkey hunt from this year?
I would think taking them in & out & putting them back in with momma & putting them side by side would be ALOT MORE STRESSFUL ON BABY & MOMMA & WOULD BE TOOOOOOO STRESSFUL!!!!! I think your way is the best way!!!!! So YES to the Farmers almanac!!!!!
I don’t know anything about horses IRL so take this with a boulder of salt. From watching horse videos, I feel like it’s more stressful on the mama to slow wean. She wants her baby with her, she needs to protect her baby. When you get them as far apart as possible, it’s easier for her to accept that change. It doesn’t give her the impression that there’s something she can do to get her baby back, so she’s less stressed
Best weaning method? I have no overall preferred method. When and how to wean is something a recommend, and take self, taking a very holistic approach to. It starts out vy considering the health and condition of the foal and mare, the age and also the mare's previous history with weaning. Knowing the mare's personality and the type of mother she has been, and all things considered we pick a method that either needs to happen as it has in this video pretty fast and immediate, through the spectrum right up until the mare lets her offspring know that enough is enough. And we pay attention to what the mare, particularly, is saying about weaning. Most perhaps would not start as early as 6 months, but if offered the chance, only put up a half-hearted argument and are over it all in a few days. Of course group weaning seems to usually be the less anxiety producing method, but depending on many reasons you cant always have a weaning buddy, although we do try to make that happen, even if we end up borrowing a couple of weanlings from other nesr by stables that have some weaning about the same time. More than one baby can make a huge difference for not just the babies but for the nanny to build up trust and interaction because as soon as one baby has some contact with a designated nanny, the othervgets curious. We also try and introduce our prospective nanny(ies) to the grouping of mares and foals. Normally the designsted nanny has been around for some time and the mares are all known to her and she to them, so she is just accepted and it helps too to have her in the group for support if mom has to be taken out gor a period of time, as the mares with foals are not going to step up and comfort a foal whose mom is gone for a whole day. And having a nanny, they know if we suddenly have to wean for medical or other reasons, we also dont have to try and push a trust and bondnon a foal not ready to accept that much change. Paying attention to the mare is important too even if the signs are slight, such as when returning to the stables at night as soon as baby enters their usual stall and mom swerves past the door and joins another mare in another stall or reverses course and heads out liker she is determined to spend the night stargazing and we can take have the baby. Good sign mom thinks weaning time has come, whole on the other hand if a mare is taking down a stall in determination to get to her baby, and not calming down after 48 hours we will bring her baby back as I have to figure mom knows something I cannot see. The few times I was positive mom was a drama queen and I would not give into her antics, we found out we had a baby with some issue with feeding, such as an immature digestive system or other feeding issue that was something cleared by more growing time and reliance on nursing to provide food that was much easier to digest and absorb. And if it took some to realize this then more time was lost as we had to restart lactation. Its just easier to shrug and give into momma as well as momma was in good condition, letting her have her way, and letting the vet know momma was not letting go (and she did not have a history of not wanting to wean her foals). Good sets of bloodwork later usually clues us into something going on that baby's body is not ready to manage on its own without momma nursing for a while longer. I like then bloodwork back up while my clinic partner thinks moms know best and if theyvare not ready to walk away from a part of child rearing they really dont want to do a day longer than they 'have to', listem to him. As he points out, wild mares do just fine deciding on their own when to close the molk bar and whether its a one and done job, or pushing a foal away until there are bigger and bigger time frames between allowed nursing sessions. Sincevwe know the molk chemistry starts to change about the time a horse left to her own choices about weaning, actively will start allowing less nursing. If you take clues from feral horses, weaning before 10 months would not happen, except in cases where mom knows she is in poor shape and should not keep supporting her foal. Domesticated horses have been arbitarily given lesser lactstion periods to get a mare back out working, back into the show arena or back into competion or, for brood mares, time to recover before they get pregnant again.
although they may see each other around briefly in passing they won’t be turned out together for a few years. Molly will go learn how to be a big horse and Maggie will likely have a new baby to look after.
Bo sticking his nose into the stall to check poor Molly is so cute omg. I can see why he's the baby sitter.
Uncle Bo is beautiful ❤
Also the way Bo immediately pokes his nose in there with Molly is so sweet. He really is such a sweet boy.
I love Bo,he's a really Good Looking horse. He's a Paint,I follow another farm with paints and their mares foals. Bo is lively and friendly,a real sweetheart!!! Come on Molly lol

Her little counter canter is so adorable! She wants to show what a big girl she is! I have a baby sitter mare and I would love to add a baby foal to the herd. She is just too old to be a brood mare.

I love watching Katie’s show, it is always so entertaining, and informative!
I can see down the road a few years into future best boy and best babysitter Bobo teaching baby 7 the ropes to take over his best boy best babysitter position idk what Katie has planned and I know that's a very long ways aways just have this feeling that that's one of the reason baby 7 came out the little miracle he is

We had a strawberry roan gelding that took care of all the calves. So sweet.
Bo reminds me of the gelding I learned to ride on. Super calm, super chill, just happy to be here. My Jim was a good horse.
You're the horse whisperer my dear... Your confidence in knowing what is best for these beautiful animals is refreshing. That was sweet!
Love your videos and the way you do things
I think that’s a really good idea Katie who cares what other people say
She is a Beautiful Baby Foal❤❤❤❤❤❤.
So you’re on the wrong lead when you’re cantering the in ring and your horses front leg closest to the fence is further forward than the inside leg.
I would love to see the camera crew riding!!
Yeehh! Famer's Almanac!❤
Bo said “how long you gonna make me do this?” 😂
It's ok, I wear my sandals, hey dudes, and static x's to the barn too😂

I used to run around the barn barefoot.
I WANT HER ❤❤❤❤❤

I was in 4-H and I showed showmanship with my hog in flip-flops.😅
I say you do you what ever works works
Who will take over for Bo ❤
@Katie did Bo have any babies before he was gelded?
I might have missed it, but have we seen any update on Maggie? Is it too soon to be seeing any change in her condition?
❤❤❤
❤️
It's always 420 somewhere.

I’m a bit new, so what happens now? Does the baby never see the momma again or is just until they learn to be separate?
although they may see each other around briefly in passing they won’t be turned out together for a few years. Molly will go learn how to be a big horse and Maggie will likely have a new baby to look after.
