- One of the last Christian towns not to fall to ISIS in Iraq, Alqosh is a major Religous and cultural center in the Ninevah Plains. It is Located about 40 miles from Mosul, and has been (until recently) under constant threat of attack. The Christian NPU and Kurdish Peshmerga have protected it.
It is home to the 1400 year old Chaldean Catholic Monsatery of "Rabban Hormizd" that has been literally carved in to the mountains. There is also a 900 year old Synagogue and the 2700 year old tomb of "Nahum" from the old testemant. This has survived for a hundred generations almost to be destroyed in our lifetime.

@@von2782 that's awesome bro so much history in places like this so beautiful 🇨🇮👍🏼
Why are saying "Shukran" to the man, he is not an Arab. Shukran is in Arabic language. You should speak to him in their mother tongue, namely; Aramaic, and thank him in Aramaic. Thank you in Aramaic is "Baseema".
No, in Alqosh a lot of people say shukran
My grandmother is from Alqous! Very proud!
Westerners do indeed show their ignorance.
You are in error. Jews didn't become Christians, as you framed it. Alqush has and always will belong to the Chaldaean-Babylonian ("Alqushnayee"), no Jewish blood whatsoever. Don't NOT rewrite history to suit Jews. The Christian Chaldaeans-Babylonians/Assyrians & Aramaeans have a history dating spanning 10th century BC in Mesopotamia. This is their Motherland!
During the Babylonian-Chaldaean Empire, King Nebuchadnezzar invaded Israel bringing Jewish captives to Babylon as slaves (the Babylonian exile). This is how the Jews ended up in Ancient Babylon, present day Iraq.
The Assyrians/Babylonian-Chaldaean & Aramaeans are the natives of Mesopotamia, (the Near East, Iraq). They are distinct from Arabs, Persians, Kurds, Israelis and Turks.
Hermoso lugar, tuve el gusto de vivir una temporada en Alqosh, hermoso lugar y gente noble
Very interesting video ! Thank you very much ! It is probably not many westerners who know about this place.
My family were the first to live there I think

@@basedchaldean i know buddy 🤡
*Chaldeans are vanishing because of those extremist terrorist groups sons of pitches. I hope a rise of the Chaldean people one day where we become more under focus by the world to protect us from extinction, Amen.*

Chaldeans are no Assyrians. Stop Assyrification!
@@chaldeansarenoassyrianssto5716 Yes you are.
@@chaldeansarenoassyrianssto5716 Chaldeans were called Assyrians before splitting from the church of the east and following the Roman catholic church who then gave them the name Chaldean (which has nothing to do with the ancient empire of Chaldea). We are the same people. Historians will tell you the same. It is unfortunate because this caused animosity and a divide by people of the same family.
@@nighthawk733
*Yes but **-no-*
*We are the same as Chaldeans. We are talked about in the historical book by the scholars and authors (before the church separation.) While the 'Assyrian' term only emerged after the British archeologist, Austen Layard discovered the monuments of Nineveh and then followed the British spy, William Wigram who called the Nestorians, "Assyrians"*
*Layard refused his British government demands to naming the Nestorians as 'Assyrians' and continued naming them Chaldeans because that is what those Christians wanted to be called.*
*Like it or not,*
*your identity is only 200 years old.*
Chaldeans are not Assyrians. Stop Assyrification!
Let them say it bro lol thats all assyrians dream LOL
Chaldeans are arameans and Assyrians are too but we are entirely different
Chaldeans split from the Assyrian Church of the East, so how are you not Assyrians? We speak the same language, and have the same history, we have the same new year, same food? Only thing that separates the two is the churches. As someone who is assyrian and not super religious I cringe when I hear this. There are so little of us left, and we continue to argue about a stupid point. We are the same 💯%. Even our genes are the same if you want to look at scientificly.
