About the film, your boss, or some group of powerful people, completely controlling a woman's reproductive rights is hardly new. Slavery, religion, discrimination on race or caste (India) is quite old and all of these involved control of women's bodies. Corporate control by threatening to ruin your career if you choose wrong is also quite contemporary, even though not as directly as in the movie. But I think the movie hits the right spot between fiction and relatability to be profitable. A movie where one powerful lady spawns a million eggs and offspring as a queen would be quite niche scifi in comparison to the relatable working woman with a baby pod. It would be very interesting to have some scifi seriously deal with the psychological and social consequences of women laying eggs being the societal standard in some other species or future. Not much space and tech, just women laying as many or as little eggs as they want and some service (private or govt) dedicated to raising tailor made children. In such a world, men too could lay eggs or rent an electrochemical womb, so to speak, and that would make it all very interesting.
