    I love my Yoshimura race series exhaust for the 2019 Honda Monkey, BUT, it's freakin' LOUD at wide-open-throttle! I think it's great, but maybe not the best tactic for backyard racing like we do or hooning around the neighborhood and having your neighbors still love you! With that in mind, I saw this product show up on Yoshimura's site a few weeks ago and had to try it out. Here's how to install it and the issues I faced with that process, as well as a test ride and hoon session. There's even some bonus supermoto work done towards the end. Stick around after that and I'll tell you my thoughts on it and if it's worth picking up for your bike. Thanks again, please LIKE/COMMENT/SUBSCRIBE if you enjoy what I'm doing with my channel!

    I Bought a Monkey about 2 months ago. It is so much fun. I have started to up-grade a few things. I have now found you on here so i can get more ideas. Thanks for the video. And i subbed.

    Nice review. I bought the same insert for my Monkey and could not hear any difference. I drilled about 20 holes in the insert, 10 rows with 2 holes in each row. That made a big difference and lowered the volume noticably. Happy with it now.

      This is interesting and I had planned to do something similar to my original insert, but then Yoshimura came out with the spark arrestor, so I never did get to experiment. Thanks for sharing your story!

      Thank you! I'm lucky to have a small pocket of rural area in Central Florida, but it's getting quickly overcrowded here as well. You can see in some of my rides the developments that are being built less than a mile down our nice lakeside country road...

      Glad to help! The Yoshimura exhaust is an amazing system, just a bit loud for most and right now, without a tuning option. They'll revise the product I'm sure.

    Take a dremel tool with a cut off wheel or even a hacksaw and cut off the small side of the Allen wrench. Then chuck it up in a drill and slowly back those bolts out after you break them lose. Make like a lot easier.

      I’m confident they’ll fix it and produce a “version 2” that does the job. Either that, or I will and start selling them!

  • @jaydotseedot

    Any chance it is in backward? Can’t tell from the video but almost have to think they made it so it would fit without modifying it.

      Nah, I tried it the other way too. I talked to Yoshimura about it and they’re giving me a revised version at the Barber Small Bore event in two weeks. I think they just flubbed up on it and needed to revise it

    Hi John, I'm asking you from Spain, that when you know something you inform us, I also find the sound of Yoshimura rs3 exhaust too loud, here it is more difficult for me to investigate, Thank you!

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  5 років тому +4

      "too loud" depends on a lot of things really. It is loud, and if you live in a quiet place or don't particularly like a loud exhaust, than yes it is too loud. In my case, I find it too loud only because I like to ride around my quiet neighborhood, not because I do not like the sound. Make sense?

    By the way if (and when) you guys learn to do longass wheelies you need to switch the oil pump atleast on the grom (i think its the same engine on the monkey) so it might need it switched too cause it takes the oil from the front of the engine so when doing lets say atleast 15 or more second wheelies the oil pump cant get any oil since its all in the back of the engine. New oil pump needs to have this metal tube that goes in the back corner of the engine and its fixed. Search
    ''This Mod Will Save Your GROM From BLOWING UP'' on youtube that guy shows what to do to get it installed. (not sure if this has been fixed allready on the 2019 groms or monkeys but worth checking). =)

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  5 років тому

      Agreed 100%! My friends Grom and my Grom have the upgraded oil pump, but the Monkey doesn’t. I didn’t anticipate doing so many wheelies on the Monkey, but it’s really easy to wheelie and fun, so I might as well look at the oil pump on it too

    That’s disappointing mate, you would think to make the piece you would make it so its very noticeably quieter or what’s the point. Yoshi need to up their game. I definitely won’t be getting the exhaust, yet alone the insert now.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  5 років тому +1

      I have mixed emotions about this as I love the exhaust, but agree with you too. What’s the point of the insert in this form? I’m sure they’ll revise it and make it what it should be, I just hope they take all of the inserts they sold already in exchange!

      I think it was actually an insert from another system that just happened to fit the Monkey system, so they listed it for the Monkey not knowing if it worked or not. That’s my assumption from what someone said on the FB group at least. I’ll reach out to them today and get the scoop

    For $500 bucks, why not just make your own big metal tube and clamp it on the exhaust. Same for the intake. Just make your own big filter with no pipes.

  • @motorcycleguy73
    @motorcycleguy73 5 років тому +1

    Hope they just gave you that piece and you didn't have to buy it it's probably $50 knowing Yoshimura and you have to work on it. Come on guys the pipe already is way overpriced that alone having to buy an insert for 50 bucks that doesn't fit, really!!!!!

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  5 років тому +2

      Nope, $30 something shipped, which I thought reasonable from Yoshimura, but I agree that it should fit right! I’ll be reaching out to them in hopes to get to the bottom of it.

  • @Raveehh
    @Raveehh 5 років тому +1

    Think the reason it does nothing is that ACTUAL db killers have a small l metal pipe that continues inside the muffler. That way some of the sound gets more stuck in the corners and has far longer travel distance to bounce back out. So take that insert to some welder guy and get him to weld that small pipe center of that insert. and just gotta make sure the pipe fits inside maybe 5-8centimeters or 2-3 inches should suffice. The muffler is very small thou so it might not yield same results as on bigger bikes. But worth a try if its not a big hassle! :P
