Animated media has a bad habit of spelling out themes and motivations, and the moment Oda dips his toes into some more complex, subtle writing, it explodes in his face thanks to a fanbase which can’t appreciate his evolving style, so used to typical anime writing tropes.
I mean, when you know that some people said that sanji was being annoying when he ran away from queen or didn't use the raid suit often seems to entirely ignore the whole struggle he was going through, it makes you think that the one piece community has a lot of dumbasses
I think it’s more so to do with the fact that nothing is a fact. Like many people have come up with many theories on why they think kaido is the way he is but that’s the problem there’s no clear answer. Maybe oda wanted each of us to find our own reason which is fine with me. I love kaido but for some they want something definitive
I’ve never really gotten why people think Kaido needs some big flashback to explain why he is the way he is. His character makes perfect sense based on what Oda’s given us already.
I think a lot of Kaidos life changing views happened during the God Valley incident like seeing the CDs first hand and even the death of Xebec or even a more contexted scene of King and him talking about Joyboy maybe Kaido can relate to the Lunarians as a Oni, Oda will get to it when he gets too it

@@Gintoki_Madao like fr, wonder why they don't complain about Crocodile consdering we got even less from him, yet people remember him as a really good villain regardless lol
@@Gintoki_Madao Looking back I don't even know why that was an assumption. Yeah, Thriller Bark revealed Zoro had some connection with Wano but that doesn't mean Wano was going to be HIS arc. It actually was more Luffy's arc. The arc where Luffy went from barely beating a Yonko Commander to enjoying himself in a brawl with the strongest creature. Luffy's Speech in Udon, his interactions with Tama and Momonosuke, taking Wano on his back, and of course his Awakening. If you ask me, they're just pissed Zoro hasn't got an arc yet when Sanji did
Greatest thing about Kaido is he did nothing to Wano. He just guarded Orochi while Orochi did all of it. And he did that because he wanted someone to take him down. Kaido treated everyone exactly like they wanted to be treated and got pissed when they complained and yet did nothing about it.
Did you even watch wano? Kaido is mostly responsible for the the damage caused to wano. he killed Oden, helped orochi establish power over the country, and all the people in that one town were forced to eat those leftover smile fruits that gave them permanent smiles. And that's not even everything that took place that kaidos presence in wano caused.

Really great character analysis on Kaido. The editing and script were top notch and you really got across the goal of Kaido. Granted I still feel nothing for him after that 3rd act even if I do understand that it was done so wish intent and ties into his story. Even then I do appreciate when a good video can get across a story's intent really well.
Man when wano arc ended, I was happy but a little disappointed in Kaido's character. I think deep down I could tell he was kinda depressed at his inability to change anything, but beyond that I couldn't really understand his character fully. But this interpretation really opened my eyes as I needed help to see beyond the surface-level of who Kaido was and why he did what he did. I thank you for this analysis. You just earned another like and subscriber :)
I will never understand why Kaido gets so much hate from the community. People cite that it's because of his short, lackluster backstory but even if he had that, people would still find something to complain about. Kaido is a very well-written character and, thematically, the perfect person to clash with Luffy. Their fight is about strength just as much as it's about ideals. There are many layers to Kaido's character but sadly a lot of people struggle with reading comprehension, apparently. Great video and thanks for putting respect on Kaido's name!
I don't hate him, it just feels a litle weird he's strong just for the sake of it but there's almost nothing aside from that. I mean, every major villiain that has a real impact on the story are somewhat related to wanting the one piece or reign over something, so we can't say kaido has no ambition. Maybe wano should have explored other points than this tanky creature that is soo bad and that's the reason he must be defeated. This has nothing to do with a backstory or something, just poor storytelling for a character that was hyped through a lot of years. Not a villian but take for example whitebeard, just a few scenes before we could really know the character that, same as kaido, was sold as stronger than anyone but everyone remember him (don't come at me saying that it was because of marineford, I remember Oda said wano was going to be superior to it).
@@303alvaro We did know the character though, his actions spoke f ar louder than a words on a page in a flashback sequence.- The man had given up on changing the world and just wanted to watch it all burn and go out in one last blaze of violence.

To be honest before wathcing this video i could not truly appreciate Kaido as a villian and somewhat thought of him as just big strong dude that Luffy just had to beat up i did not think he was wholey uninteresting but i just did not see him as too great but this video was fantastically made in a way that made ne realise that i misunderstood Kaido and so has the community you earned my like and my sub and i turned on notifications i wanna see more good luck
I really hope Kaido isn’t dead. I think the perfect ending for Kaido is for him to show up at the final war and protect Joyboy. For Kaido to finally die a worthy death while protecting Joyboy (let’s say by holding back the Admirals/marines while the straw hats go to fight someone else on laugh tale) would mean that he has finally come full circle and has something to believe in again. He couldn’t be Joyboy but now that he has found him he won’t let anyone stop him. After all, only the man who took down Kaido the king of beasts is fit to change the world.
man i love your video analysis. they are so good and poetic in a sense. and not just meant to present citation materials and get into arguments over why X is better than Y. keep it up
I think this illustrates his whole "Joyboy will be the one to defeat me" thing. At first I just thought it was some hack dialogue tbh, like he might as well have said "I'm the bad guy and the chosen one (luffy, who doesn't exist in the flashback) is the good guy so he's going to beat me cause the good guy wins, lol" but no. Its because he's so committed to his philosophy, that he imagines only the complete antithesis of it, only the embodiment of it being wrong would be the person would can stop him. Its "Anyone who thinks that the weak can truly be liberated, anyone genuinely capable of doing that, is definitely able to kick my ass, cause I don't, and I have run my life by that guiding principle, for it to go away it would take someone like that". honestly it might be just people coping about bad writing looking too deep into things but I agree that he is significantly less shallow than fans give him credit for. I still probably prefer some other villains over him but given all this he's anything but one note.
You put my exact thoughts and opinions into your video! You truly get Kaido and im glad to see theres people who appreciate him ,although I dont think hes the best villain in One Piece (Not even close) , I like him a LOT

Like nigga oda doesn’t need to see a fucking UA-cam video analysis on his characters because he made them. That was probably the dumbest yt comment I’ve ever seen.
Kaido is great example of reader failure to understand kaido the character . Many reader were more upset about the length of his Backstory. Then trying to understand what the backstory said about kaidos character. Great video.
I wish they can expand on kaidos final thoughts or purpose like they can flash back with luffy witnessing him smile with relief to finaly have been defeated by a worthy opponent, that would bring his arc to a fitting end.
I hope that Kaido does return. He was blinded by having the thought that the world can't be changed but i believe that him seeing Luffy overcome him and liberate Wano gave him hope for the future. If he lives he can see a life which he could never imagine. However i believe that if he actually did die that his death is a good contrast to Rogers, Whitebeard and Oden who saw a great future and had a smile before their fate as which Kaido didn't.
I can repeat this video over and over and still enjoy it, that's how well informed this video is, everything is lore accurate and calming to listen to, it's even better when you're drinking matcha and getting tea drunk while watching this video
I sorta hated kaido as a villain because his implimentation in the story flew in the face of a lot of what I thought One Piece had set as a standard...especially for villains. Which is why I wouldn't go anywhere close to as far as calling him One Piece's "Greatest" villain, but that's likely because the way in which I measure One Piece villains is different from yours. Yours seems to be by how well they serve as obstacles or counterpoints to the major themes, and how their defeats can signify changes in the world of the narrative and thus evolution and development of the major themes... but mine, while taking that into account, is mainly by how well they're set up and knocked down. And how hard they butt their ugly heads against Luffy, and how they challenge him in different ways...and how satisfying their defeat is. Or at least how much of a strong emotion their defeat gives, in some special cases like with Katakuri, which is why I've always disliked Kaido and felt worried for the series moving forward if the standard has been shattered. And while that worry remains sadly, I think this video has quenched a lot of those concerns for the future of the story by highlighting Kaido's thematic role in the story. You went through a lot of choices regarding his character that now make a lot more sense.... and while I do still feel he was largely executed poorly, I now at least see his potential purpose in the story and don't feel as icky and disappointed about just how much time se spent with him. So thanks for that!

That's exactly what I believe
I mean, when you know that some people said that sanji was being annoying when he ran away from queen or didn't use the raid suit often seems to entirely ignore the whole struggle he was going through, it makes you think that the one piece community has a lot of dumbasses
ohh yeah just wait, folks will change their opinion
I think it’s more so to do with the fact that nothing is a fact. Like many people have come up with many theories on why they think kaido is the way he is but that’s the problem there’s no clear answer. Maybe oda wanted each of us to find our own reason which is fine with me. I love kaido but for some they want something definitive
Same reason I see people hate on nami. "She doesn't do anything", like why is fighting the only thing that counts as doing aomething
I’ve never really gotten why people think Kaido needs some big flashback to explain why he is the way he is. His character makes perfect sense based on what Oda’s given us already.
Some people just want to see the world burn, one of them is kaido
I think a lot of Kaidos life changing views happened during the God Valley incident like seeing the CDs first hand and even the death of Xebec or even a more contexted scene of King and him talking about Joyboy maybe Kaido can relate to the Lunarians as a Oni, Oda will get to it when he gets too it
Bruhhhh 🤦🏽♂️
That shit is so annoying. The fact that people said wano was wack cos zoro didn't get a backstory or have any samurai origins. They were mad it wasn't "his arc". People wanted to know the backstory of Kaido too. It's so annoying. Is it now tradition to have some sob story or something before you decide to enjoy a character
Kaido was the main reason Wano got subjugated and wanted to enact the new onigashima project wdym he did nothing
Compared to other villains, Kaido is one you really need to dig deeper. Just as how deep he was drilled by luffy under Wana
I think I might be reaching but I always thought of that Kaido's flashback was more like his life flashing in his eyes before death( if he is truly dead). If my memory serves me right, I don't think we've ever seen a flashback of The Antagonist/Deuteragonists before the final punch/blow lands until kaido and whitebeard
Great analysis by the way.
aint no way he dead...lol. And Luffy never kills anyone
@@Capt.RedBeard Big Mom's dead, I reckon he is too
@@Capt.RedBeard Lufyy didn't but the Pyrobloin (main element of seastone) in the magma chamber probably did. It's cathartic that the country kaido tried to cage ended up caging him in instead.
@@Capt.RedBeard Kaido got the Hidan treatment. Even if he is alive, his relevance to the story is finished. It's time to let go.
@@TheLarryDungeon big Mom isn't dead. Zeus is still alive
This video was pure poetry. The script, the narration, the background clips/panels as well as the choice of osts. An amazing analysis of Kaido as well as Joyboy Luffy.
Agree, it can't help but change my view on Kaido
2:26. A perfect introduction and analysis of both Kaido and Doflamingo along with the entire structure of the post timeskip story up untill Wano. Brilliant. Simply brilliant. You have earned a new subscriber.
really well made video....i liked kaido from the starting from the arc...but i was unable to completely understand his overall story...this video helped me a lot with that .... thanks....keep up the good work
this is the best video dissecting kaido it puts all the pieces of kaidos actions and characteristics together
oh man you absolutelylt killed it with this video. from the writing to the imagery you picked, everything was so well done. i feel like you really have understood what one piece is really about. ah, now I feel hopeful about our world. you with this video made me want to be better person. thank you
Fact check: Kaido did smile but he had to be upside down to do it.
In the face of PURE joy, even Kaido was forced [by Luffy] to smile 😃
You never miss with these op vids. Kaido is so underrated
I’ve been saying this
I don't think he's underrated, but instead looked at as one dimensional
@@ophiuchus_kin I think he's underrated because everyone is rotting for doffy and d riding luffy and can't accept the fact that kaido solos him in every form and all his crew but I'll respect others opinions even if it was wrong
In the week to week it's hard to see The theme of a villain. Kaido wasnt so interesting as other villains like doffy. But it's an awesome charachter in the themes of the whole story
@@felipe.arenas wdym kaidos way more entertaining and way more interesting then doffy. I mean doffy literally worked for him which build the interest into who kaido was, because doffy himself was afraid of him and we’ve heard about him way back in what post enies arc bfr dress rosa like kaido is too tier compared to all the other villians well also beside imu
One of the best videos on Kaido. He's such an underrated character. Easily one of the best villains in OP alongside Doflamingo and Katakuri.
This is incredibly put together!
Your essay videos are a golden gem man
You’re understanding of characters is unrivaled. I’m hoping you make video on Oden
Great video. Really makes you appreciate the whole Wano arc in retrospective.
Amazing poetry, and this just gave me more context to kaido
I love these ONE PIECE analysis videos. it makes me appreciate the series so much more
Your choice of mysic is fantastic. You really know how to add weight to your narration. W man. It's always pleasant to see One Piece discussion devoid of power-scaling's goofiness.
Kaido really said if I’m going to die one day I’ll take as much people to hell with me😭💀😭
Man when wano arc ended, I was happy but a little disappointed in Kaido's character.
One Piece analysis videos are always a joy. Looking forward to your future videos and takes!
@@CM-hx5dpBut why did he want to give up?
Great analysis! People love Kaido for his badass nature but I feel like the actual layers of his character writing and themes are usually slept on
Great voice, and even if I already understand the nuance of these characters, I still appreciate it more after hearing it explained like this. You put this together phenomenally.
After all, only the man who took down Kaido the king of beasts is fit to change the world.
awesome character analysis, made me appreciate kaido so much more then i already do.
Crazy thing is that im not a one piece fan but I might consider watching the show now. Great Video!
“…disregarded that work of art before he even held the brush” is such an amazing ducking line. Excellent character analysis!
man i love your video analysis. they are so good and poetic in a sense. and not just meant to present citation materials and get into arguments over why X is better than Y.
keep it up
Brilliant essay. Added to my saved vids instantly
Another great video. Both your one piece and naruto videos are a breathe of fresh air among creaters who only provide surface level analysis.
You have a very good narrating voice and the editing really sets the mood of your storytelling good video
What an amazing video. It makes so much sense now. I always thought Kaido went out with a whimper and this really explains why!
what a beautiful video
This is a great video, from the editing, writing, OST, even your voice is perfect lol
I hate how most ppl are rather into theory style video cuz these op analys vids are really fire you should keep up the good work
God this is SUCH a good video, love this so much
These videos are written and editors brilliantly
This is beautiful 😢 Good job👍
This video was absolutely beautiful
Your writing here is on point, it got me so hyped lol
First time watching kaido video that gave me chills
Awesome analysis
ma i have to respect how good your script is. just butiful .
Wow, this was truly beautiful. I'm really glad I stumbled upon your video!
This video puts into words how i vaguely felt about kaido but couldn't really explain as well. Well done.
This video is brilliant, dont stop, youll be big.
You put my exact thoughts and opinions into your video! You truly get Kaido and im glad to see theres people who appreciate him ,although I dont think hes the best villain in One Piece (Not even close) , I like him a LOT
Yeah. That would be Doflamingo
Man you have such a good 'teaching' voice
This video make me realize , for kaidou everything is a conflict , a battle to be win. His relationship with the crew os about stregth and power nothing more, relationship with his Son, and everyone is his battle to win.
oh my god, why do you have to word all of this video so poetically? its so great!
Damn! 😭 If only Oda could see and understand these analyses of his characters and work. I can only imagine just how much joy and pure jubilation he would feel.
Motherfucker what? Like seriously. Dude oda made all of these characters with everything in mind. If one piece has anything.. it’s good writing. And I’m not talking plotholes every now and then.
People need to put more respect on Kaido as villain, he's Top 3 in my book. Great video
your videos are always bangers bro. Especially Why will matters.
What an amazing video… not even 4 minutes in. You’re an amazing creator dude
I'm crying watching your video, you represented it very beautifully, nice job man❤❤❤
Kaido is the apex predator in the animal kingdom. The top of the food chain. I love the Beast Pirates.
I wish they can expand on kaidos final thoughts or purpose like they can flash back with luffy witnessing him smile with relief to finaly have been defeated by a worthy opponent, that would bring his arc to a fitting end.
Kaido is a great villain. He is what happens when you fall totally into despair
This is such an incredible video, thank you so much for it!
These videos got me tearing up, shout out peak piece!
Greatest antagonist Oda made, a villain that the broken strong can relate to…
That intro was amazing ! You cooked 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
YOOOOO THE INTRODUCTION TO THE VIDEO WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME 😭🐐
absolute banger! are you going to be doing more One Piece content?
it's my favorite anime
Yep
Well done! This deserves more views!
beautiful video, keep it up! 👍
Thank you for this lovely video!
Yeah I been saying Kaido is a man's character
boy's won't understand because the inspiration is drawn from many subjects of life
What a video men you’re voice is soothing😊keep up the good work
Bro why is this so good
I sorta hated kaido as a villain because his implimentation in the story flew in the face of a lot of what I thought One Piece had set as a standard...especially for villains.
So thanks for that!
god fucking damn, youre good, you really are
Great video my boy! Great job!
