If your as big of a fan of the series as I am you'll know that in the castithan culture / spiritual tradition that according to their scriptures ryatzho ( I'm probably spelling that incorrectly ) their deity of guiding light was acredited with teaching the castithan people how to speak . Particularly ryatzho ( again apologies for the terrible spelling ) was said to have taught them how to speak by singing to the people , hence the extreme focus on song / music and dancing being sacred inherently in their society , and also why there are comments in the dialog such as when Christy was first shown in a votan / human mixer type of club speaking to alak as he asks her to dance and she said ( you don't want to dance with me , I dance like a human ) . It wasn't that she thought he would look bad to other castithans because he asked an earth girl to dance it was that she didn't think she would live up to the standard in his people's faith of what truly reverant and expressive dancing should look like . All she wanted in that moment was to honor his people's beliefs even if it meant continuing to hide their feelings for each other , despite how strong those feelings already were . And to see their wedding in the series brought tears to my eyes both because all the castithans of good standing were present for the procession and because the song they sang was the song ryatzho was said to have sang to , or be sung to by , his true love , the castithan goddess of darkness . The first one he ever guided with his light to bring her into awareness and / or awakening so that he could show her how he felt for her . In that regard this is the most beautiful love song most of us will ever hear , and exactly why the creators of the series chose to write it that way .
