As a current member of the LDS church, I absolutely believe that if you find your peace and happiness outside of the church, you should absolutely leave and go after what you want and desire. Your honesty and vulnerability through it all is beautiful. The song is very powerful that does portray the nature of life, the difficulties, fears, and opinions we all must navigate. I love it.
I believe when this life comes to an end, we will all be surprised as to just how much love , grace, and compassion God has for all his children and we will see how he gathers us all back together.
Keep being you! Enjoy your life as you see fit.
I’ve always said members are my favorite part of Mormonism. You’re a great example, wish more held your sentiments.
As a non-member from Utah, I can't even tell you how much you made my eyes well up with tears. Mostly happy tears; some tears from memories of not being accepted simply for not being a member- especially when I was younger. I nearly took my life and was hospitalized by age 10 for confiding in a school counselor that I didn't want to live. My brother and I encountered so much bullying and isolation by many simply bc we weren't Mormon/LDS. I was often told I was "immoral" as a teenager when a mother of 1 of my guy friends found out I wasn't a member. We weren't up to anything "naughty"- just friends/hanging out. She made sure all the other parents in our friend group knew I wasn't LDS and suddenly I had lost a large group of friends. I don't know if it was worse to be bullied by my peers or adults. I'm thankful for the families who did accept me as I am. I was blown away by how loving they were and their acceptance meant the world to me. I was grateful to be seen as an equal, which sounds strange bc it should be a given, imo. I know there are amazing members of the church out there- my LDS therapist being 1 of many. It warms my heart and is refreshing to read messages like yours in the comments. I wish I saw and heard that kind of stuff more often- not just for David, or myself, but everyone who may need that reassurance. I know I need to not rely on others for that kind of validation, but it does help. Thank you for taking the time to write what you did.
I know there are members like you, I just wish they more often showed and expressed love and acceptance the way you have. I truly love, appreciate, and agree with what you wrote.
I consider myself Humanist and personally believe that we'll be with those we love and care about in the end- whatever and however that may look like/be.
I've had a smile on my face the entire time listening to David and seeing him so happy- living his life in a way that is authentic. I love the laughter and bashfulness, hearing stories about his mom and sister, the things that still come naturally to him from his ubringing that are slowly changing, him spreading the word of acceptance and community for those who struggle... who wouldn't be proud of that?

I had forgotten what David's Lives are like. He has this erratic but endearing presentation which makes you love him a little bit more. It was fun to watch but I wonder where it all comes from. He must be a fascinating person to be friends with.

Seriously, from the moment I first heard you sing live with my oldest daughter on her 11th birthday in 2010, to now - following you all along the way (including that same daughter being privileged to share the stage with you a couple of times when she was in One Voice Children's Choir ) - I've been truly amazed by your brilliance, and also heartbroken when you have been through some super low lows. Most of all, I have been moved by your courage -- a word that is literally rooted in the heart.
I know how hard it is to leave the LDS faith, but I can't imagine how much harder it would be in your situation.

I am a LDS, actually a convert. I do understand the concepts of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its restored fullness. And listening to you, I also understand you! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent of singing and voice. The world is in are of your voice. You know, my favorite Christmas song is the one with you there a few years back.
You can choose to be whatever you feel or makes you free. I don't think our Savior judges us the way we judge each other as humans. I dont Jesus Christ went on that cross and before that bled from every pour in the Garden of Gethsemane so that He can point out as Catholic, Mormon, methodist, Muslim, Jewish or blackmore white or Hispanic or Asian or gay or lesbian or whatever labels people stamp in each other.
We do that! Not Him! And when He comes again, we don't even have a bot of a glimpse of what it will be like. The scriptures give an idea but hell is not an actually place. Probably it's more like a state of mind.
