  • Today I will show you my stash of watersoluble art media! I was asked to do a watercolor pencil review but I do now own all of the watercolor pencil brands so I did not think it would be a fair review but then I was asked to show my different waterbased media and explain how to use each kind. I do not address Acrylic in this tutorial because acrylics are not watersoluble after they dry, they are a different creature and maybe I will do a tutorial on acrylic mediums later!
Watercolor media can be broken into 3 main groups: Paints, Pencils and Pastels/Crayons. Each has it's advantages.
Paints are probably the most versatile. You can uses transparent watercolors, Gouache (opaque watercolors) and metallic watercolors. These are wonderful for painters, art journalers and cardmakers. You can see my watercolor painting playlist here: • blue skies and birch tree
My DIY Metallic Paint video is here: • DIY metallic paint

Pencils are wonderful for stampers because you can controll the pigment more easily on a small scale BUT hey are also great painting and art journaling tools. You can see my watercolor pencil playlist here: • watercolor pencil tuto...
Watercolor Crayons and Pastels are free and fun allowing you to apply a lot of color quickly. You can leave the pigment dry or blend with water. Three popular products in this category are watercolor crayons (Caran D'ache), Gelatos, and watersoluble Oil Pastels (Portfolio by Crayola). The 3 products I just mentiond are similar but they vary in opacity so I have 3 tutorials for you to check out if you want more info on those products:
