- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- Hey guys! This was a frustrating day of taking pictures, but ended up with a couple solid images and some experiences to learn from. It's how it goes sometimes... Was using the Bronica SQ with Portra 400 and the Olympus 35RC with Fuji Industrial 100. Enjoy!

Hahah loved that smooth transition to Squarespace.
Great truthful video in total... get well soon👊🏼
Thanks so much man 🙏🏼
Dude, opening a camera to see your film unrolled and staring you in the face is a gut wrenching feeling. It happens more than I'd like to admit. Good job saving the roll, keep it up!
Haha the stomach drop moment ... 🥴
Wow man this has honestly been one of my favorite videos of yours. Nothing mediocre about it and it teaches a valuable lesson. There are soo many times where I go out and end up feeling super overwhelmed about not finding any shots but end up pushing to finish the roll anyways. Keep ‘em coming Brae
So glad to hear that! Thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers Tyler.
It's funny it happened in this video, because I was thinking to myself, "I wonder if people ever react to him taking pictures of their homes/cars..." and then it happened. It's awesome to see they are cool with it. As far as screwing up, I just got a new gimbal for my Samsung S21, and I know I'm going to be on a big learning curve as it's my first gimbal. Happy birthday BTW! ✌
Thanks Peter! And enjoy that new gimbal. That'll be awesome!
Hey Brae. Nothing wrong about sharing failures. That is how we all learn and improve. Cheers!
Thanks brotha! You're very right
Man these videos are so sick. I love the style and the little audio clip when talking to strangers. Been watching for a year now and you’ve become my favourite film photographer. Willem and Joe better watch out. Much love from Canada 🇨🇦 ✌🏽
Thanks so much Luke! Glad you have been enjoying them :)
I really love that style of edit. It's like a short film almost. Although this is undoubtedly a looot of work, I think it really pays off.
This way, even if not all the images turn out, the video itself stands on its own.
Ah thank you so much! Appreciate that
Conversations like the one at 8:30 are the best! I love when locals are curious on what I'm doing and we end up chatting, and they usually give away some great tips on what to photograph in the neighbourhood or village.
The gentleman I was talking to was definitely more curious and optimistic than the woman that originally came out. She was not liking it at all 😂 But I agree, those are always fun conversations!
Would love to get more content on that olympus 35rc experience🔥
noted!
Liked for the honesty and the choice of beverage !
Thanks sir!
Aside from your film photography skills, your videography skills is getting so much better. Some of these comps are insane
Thank you !!
this felt like a short film. coming back to this every once in a while :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Digging the authenticity on this one bud. Thankfully you didn’t lose all of your imagines on the film.
Thank you!
Some of your best work, Brae! Cheers brethren
Thank you my dude 👊🏼
Brae’s narration sounds like an NHL post game interview
I don't know if this is a good or bad thing 😂
The Dino under the car tyre reminded me of Robert Franks kiddie bike in The Americans :)
Hey man, we all do it!! No matter how many times you shoot film, guarantee you’ll STILL pop the film back open and a roll of film will be staring you in the face. Don’t let it phase you hahaha!
Haha no doubt! Thanks man
Really enjoyed this one. Fuji industrial looks stunning. Hope you get well soon!
Thanks brother! 😊
Belated welcome to Tacoma! Do give it a chance. It might take a while.
Why thank you! I already absolutely love it!
Great image of the mazda 3 with the JDM sticker! lucky that was parked there! XD seriously tho, one of my favorites from this one, that tree is a looker.
Haha thanks Dylan! JDM FTW 😎
Guiness needs to cut you a check for that Hot Tub shot. Perfect product placement. 👌🏾
Haha @guinness wya??
I'm old enough to remember the good ole days when you could get 35mm film in 12 shot rolls. Bliss.
Haha I found a couple of those 12 exp rolls in my great grandfathers closet!
Can relate quarantining away from the family for Christmas. Get well soon bro! Also, when Guinness sponsorship?
Such unfortunate timing... Hoping you're feeling alright now! And that's a great question... @Guinness??
this was wildly entertaining
Why thank you!
Hey Brae, bummed to hear you got sick and wish you a fast recovery 🤒. These types of video are more like short films with great storytelling and really nice compositions 👍. I also like your openness about things gone down the drain. Get well soon and keep em coming
Thanks for the feedback Christian! Appreciate you taking the time to watch. Hope you had a lovely Christmas!
11:35 love all the acting lol
Given all the trials and tribs you made an Awesome episode mate. Guinness always improves any situation. I have the RB and an oly 35Sp love them both the wee oly is an absolute gem. Stay bug free from now on mate regards Paul
Haha thank you Paul. Guinness is definitely a nice remedy. Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed!
@@BraeHunziker all gd mate
I shoot lots of B/W and have finally started loading my own. I got an old Watson bulk film loader and a 100 foot roll of Kentmere Pan 100. This way I can load a roll with only 15-20 shots instead of the more normal 36. I can't seem to find any color film in 35mm bulk yet but I'll keep looking. I don't think there isn't a one of us that hasn't opened a camera only to realize that the roll hadn't been rewound. Maybe you have been doing too much 120
There should be some Kodak motion picture film it is color but it does have remjet backing that you will have to remove with and extra chemical
The only 35mm color you can get in bulk is Kodak cinema film. It’s more expensive that 100’ rolls of B&W film, but you can get it in 100’ & 400’ rolls from retailers like B&H or Freestyle Photo. Bear in mind that cinema film has the Remjet layer on the back (because this film is used in cinema cameras at super high speeds). If you want to develop it yourself you’ll need to A) Remove the remjet layer before developing in your C41 chemistry or B) Develop it in ECN-2 chemistry which is already formulated for removing that Remjet layer.
Good luck on your Bulk load journey! ❤️
@@melaninxhalide1165 It isn't hard to remove the remjet....baking soda + water
Definitely have been doing too much 120 😂 Bulk loading is the way to go from what I hear. Was about to take a class in college where we'd bulk load Tri-X but ended up not being able to take it cause of a scheduling issue. Would have loved to learn the process. One day !
@@BraeHunziker bulk loading is easier than loading film on a reel in a dark bag.
Came for the video, stayed after hearing I'm not the only one who got covid 2x, lol. Hope you get better ASAP dude!
Haha so unlucky... oh well, second time wasn't nearly as bad.
Sending positive and warm wishes Brae!
Appreciate that! :)
+1 for committing hard to the ~2.35:1 aspect ratio. I've been using it in my concert footage lately to make things more "cinematic" but in actuality, I use it to give me some vertical lenience when it comes to fixing framing in post, as holding my ancient gimbal + DSLR + monitor for 30-45 minutes straight produces some uhhhh not exactly on-point framing
Haha totally feel that! The extra real estate is nice. I've been enjoying it for the most part but feel as though it doesn't show the vastness in some of the landscapes that I shoot. Trying to find the right scenarios to use it in!
Hope you feel better bro. Great video thank you for showing us that you are not perfect you are actually like anyone else. Bounce back from this soon.
Thanks Ramon! Really appreciate it. Feeling good 👍🏼
sick gvng. some bangers here dude
Thanks Bailey!
Thx for the video!!! Makes me feel a little bit better, after shooting a complete 120 film with the dark slide still sitting in the camera. … 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Haha well it does indeed happen... 😂
Nice video Brae!! There will be a collab video with Willem?
Thanks man! Probably sometime in the next few months!
Seeing all of the video shots of you preparing to taking a photo makes me exhausted knowning you had to set each of those up, then prepare to shoot your composition. It really pays off though. Your vids are great
Haha thank you! Does become quite the process...
Who replaced Brae? Where is the perfect photographer taking perfect pictures every time who lives a perfect life? Joking aside, hope you get better. Thanks for transparency in your photographic journey. Great content and presentation as always!
Haha he took a vacation for this vid...
Thank you tho, appreciate it!
Dude I totally feel you. I just posted a video about fixing my Bronica S2A’s focusing issue and that was a trial to say the least lol
i've tried fixing my s2a focus issue a million times. Never seemed to work :(. Did everything
@@MM-mo9hn damn that’s sad :( I wonder what’s wrong with it
What kind of focusing issue does it have?
@@BraeHunziker ahh just back focuses like the focus plane is behind the point. i fixed the foam under the ground glass and mirror foam but the tollerences are so so tiny can never get critical focus. I donno why they thought basing a focus system on foam was a good idea, i don't know any other camera that does it.
nah glad you made the vid in the end 🍁 this might now be my favorite film photo-related channel just bc of it. I do the same shit lol including filming myself while making a mistake, only to keep filming myself to try to keep things natural and flowing in a way… all too real hahah, just (here it comes) try not to be so hard on yourself! on or off camera, it’s just never worth it. love what you do however you do it 🧡
semi-related side anecdote: I was at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA today thinking I was gonna capture that beautiful Spanish moss on Portra 400 in all its misty-golden glory… only to find out I’d run out of film before my counter even said so 😭 never been so happy to use my a7iii instead~
so yeah, glad you got to keep Disneyland after all!
Haha thanks for the comforting words Peter!
At least you had the Sony on you! Could have been worse I suppose!
Cheers and Happy Holidays!
10:25 Heck, dude. That’s what was with me and my camera one month ago! My condolences 😢
haha tragic
as always great stuff buddy! bro I got a question. what do u think is the tripod u r using strong enough for a mamiya rb67? considering buying that one. thanks man
Thanks! And unfortunately no it is not strong enough. Started breaking after putting my Pentax and video camera on it and had to super glue it back together lol
Hehe...This video strikes me as being just like 2021 -- It started out with optimism, then everything that could go wrong did anyway. But, we all tried our dambdest to make the best of it anyhow! I love the photo of the weeping tree in front of the house (the second, right-hand one) and the photo of the neigborhood overlooking the lake with the postman walking in the frame. Nice lesson on diffusing a street shooting hairy-eyeball-person encounter, too. Get well soon!
Haha couldn't agree more Bob! What can ya do!
Thanks for the feedback as well 🤠
i love your videos - Brazil
Thanks man!
We need more 35mm brae
Looking to invest in a nice 35mm setup soon hopefully 🤞🏼
Guinness and a hot tub… the life
Can’t be beat!
I'm new followers for u, i like your video very helpful. Is it any editing process for the result?
Glad it helps! Yes, I edit.
Could've been worse...imagine if you dropped the Guinness in the bathtub. Speedy recovery mate🍻
haha so true... Life aint too bad 😂
You were right at 6:40 lol
I continually find new ways to fail after over 30 years of photography. I amuse myself in my creativity in that department.
Haha finding it amusing... I like that perspective 🤠
I had one of those. I bought 3 rolls of PRO 400H lately for my ETRS. One of the rolls came undone as a whole (probably because I need anger management). I loaded the film and that little side door holding the lower spool opened a bit during the shooting session (I probably closed it incorrectly), so it wouldn't wind properly, it just couldn't latch on the spool again. So, I opened it and even though I might have used a part of the film, that wasn't hit by the light yet, I went for all in rage and ripped the film out and gave up. When I cooled off, I was like: "Wow, if film people would see me now, treating the discontinued film like that.."
Hahaha the rage inducing moments definitely do happen 😂 oh well...
If you were a thief and not a photographer, the couple was nice to send you to the mansions. lol
Haha no kidding 😂
Y'all got any photography books to recommend
Daido Moriyama
My knowledge in the photo book department is lacking unfortunately... Need to spend some time diving into it in 2022
Honestly opened the back of my F3 twice in the same week recently and my god did I want to hurl myself out the window along with the camera
Hahah its the natural reaction 😂
1:17 is that Willem?
indeed it is

“Well this one would be a lot cooler if there was an old car parked in the drive, and not a Mazda 3 with a JDM sticker on it” 😂
lolol 😂
Dude, that's nothing! A few months back I wasted an almost entire pack of FP-100C and I don't even know how it happened but I was soooo fucking angry! Well, shit happens!
Anyway, it's cool the see the Bronica in action again, not using mine much these days because the weather is pretty bad but can't wait to take some new square shots with it when the days get better :)
Get well soon!
Oh my god haha I would have been livid! Learning experiences... Was a blast shooting that Bronica again!
Cheers man!
Are you practicing your Willem side?
I take pictures of trees cause they dont ask dumb questions
This ^^^ 😂
9:40 Photoshop shake reduction to save the day.
Why have I never heard of this feature ??
@@BraeHunziker maybe never needed it, or maybe you don’t use Ps as much? Haha
Hello
Greetings!
came for the photos, stayed for the random smalltalk with people from the neighborhood
Edit: JK I came for the new Brae video and I stayed for the new Brae video
Hahah thank you 👊🏼
When you shot a full roll and forget to rewind and open up the back you'll basically never lose more than maybe 3-4 shots simply because undeveloped negative film will barely let any light through, so everything wrapped up tightly on the other side is pretty safe
Thanks Chad!
