    This is from the Christmas episode that was unearthed last year thanks to Cathy Hicks (dancing here at 1:30)
    With the dancing, fashions, and 2 great songs, this might be my all-time favorite rate-a-record, especially for one without a hit song. How cool would it be to see this in color (and no timestamp) Neither of these 2 songs ever charted, but to my ear, they both sound like future hits - but what do I know. I’d give song 1 a 92 and song 2 an 88. What did you think?
    Dancers: lots of familiar favorites are here today including Art Mikaelian, Rudy Mikaelian & Robin Miller at 0:54, Andy Soto & Teresa “Buggy” Escoto at 2:47, Frank Vanderpuil at 4:45 and Don Sanuskar & Pat Dickinson on the highest riser during the 2nd song at 5:07. In this, the new studio for ‘69, dancers were told not to wear blue so they wouldn’t look like floating heads in front of the blue screen that Don and Pat are dancing in front of.
    Deep Cuts: The 3-album ca-sette they’re giving away today, with The Steve Miller Band - Sailor, The Band - Music From Big Pink and The Quicksilver Messenger Service - self-titled, didn’t have any hits on them but at least they got “The Weight” - take a load off Fanny.
    End of an era: as the 60’s come to end, so to does Diana Ross‘ time with The Supremes. Tomorrow night Diana will appear with The Supremes for the last time on TV on ”The Ed Sullivan Show” where they’ll sing “Someday We’ll Be Together”.
    Time has come today for me to take care of business…Thank you for watching!

    "My Baby Takes Care Of Business" was a non-album single release from the Chambers Brothers issued between their albums "A New Time - A New Day" (1968) and "Love Peace & Happiness" (1970).. The band being west coast based, it's no surprise that the single made some noise and caught Dick Clark's ears. Too bad it didn't take off.
    Art Posey & Honey Sessions were Motown/Jobete Music writers whose single was issued via ABC-Dunhill (another west coast based operation). Great record that didn't get the promotion it deserved.

    I really like these two songs. And the dancing here is so good I bet it was so much fun. Thank you to Cathy Hicks for making this episode accessible. I am hoping if there is more AB footage that others are in possession of they will see how well these are received and make theirs available as Cathy did.

    Hey Aaron. I remember when this episode first hit UA-cam & we all went crazy! Lol This RAR was one of the best ones I saw from this era. The energy coming from the kids on both sings was great! And it was packed in there too for this episode.
    I agree with you Aaron, these 2 songs screamed at least Top 20. Maybe these sounded too 60s, but nobody knew what music was gonna sound like a year or 2 later. Either way, a great song doesn't always have to chart, or be a single.
    Anybody who has seen this episode will note the somber feel it has at certain points, what with everything going on in the world during that time. M y guess is, all that energy was sort of like a way to relieve some stress from loved ones getting drafted, or worse... that letter or phone call. Thanks for this clip Aaron!

      Thanks Don! Looking dapper as always here. You and Pat looked like you were having fun.
      I noticed that between the 2 songs they closed Dick’s moving doors around the podium and, obviously, you and Pat moved up onto the riser. Were RAR’s all 1 continuous scene (not sure I’m saying that right) or were there cuts to allow time for the dancers to move around between the 2 songs? If not, I imagine it was a pretty wild scramble getting reshuffled in the 2 minutes or so that it took for the judges to give their comments and scores. 🤔

    • @dancerdon9175
      @dancerdon9175 Рік тому +4

      @@YCDTI There weren’t breaks between the two RAR tunes and indeed there were often times when there was a mad shuffling of dancers between the songs being rated. I also noticed that the moving doors to the podium were closed for the second RaR tune. You know
      I have zero recollection of that little maneuver 🤷‍♂️.

    This was a hard time for music and dancing as so much of rock music changed and dancing suddenly involved a lot of jerking , jumpy movements and flailing arms . The clothing and hairstyles look much more familiar than the “ dancing”. Late60’s ; Everything Changed . A lot ! It’s fun to see the way the girls dance and the clothes. I love music but the only thing I remember of the Chambers Bros is “ Time” and time wasn’t a dance song, much if at all. Time lasted a super long time , too.
