Mmhmm. It also is sucky how it has to be like this even if there can be better. After all, some diversity was more balanced years ago, like with super teams like the Avengers and JLA would take with having Black Panther and John Stewart as their teams’ first Black heroes respectively over time, especially when both teams were made in the 60’s and how the times made it hard.
Disney and a lot of other companies have a HUGE bias when it comes to inclusion, they will include all races, but if you're a clav or middle eastern, su ks to be you, you're gonna be portrayed as a terrorist or some sort of criminal in any media you're in.
I think Ratatouille did a great job of explaining the initial vision of what "diversity hires" *SHOULD HAVE* been. "Not that *anyone* can be a great artist, but that a great artist *can be from ANYWHERE.* "
I love the logic these companies have, that picking people solely on their skin color, sexuality, ethnicity, etc. somehow makes them less bigoted. Uhmmm...no? You're still singling these people out for traits outside their control, as well as alienating them from others because of those traits. Also, the audacity of this woman! The original Snow White film is the whole reason Disney is as big as it is today! Walt Disney put his whole career and reputation on the line to make that film! She wouldn't be here if not for that film!
Not to mention choosing a candidate based on skin, sexuality, ethnicity, etc instead of qualifications and skill actually hurts your company in the long run because the quality of your employees takes a hit. For example; a friend of mine worked for a company that hired a woman in a supervisor position not because she was the most qualified but because the women of the company were complaining that wasn't enough women represented in leadership. Guess what happened? She clearly wasn't the right person for the job. She was terrible and made lots of bad or questionable decisions that ended up costing the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I respect Snow White as one of the movies that started all, but that doesn't mean we aren't allowed to give criticism just because of that. The actress did nothing wrong honestly.
I still personally don’t get why they didn’t just hire people with dwarfism to be the dwarfs, since it would give people with dwarfism a chance to shine in the acting world.🤨🐱
Or at least do it like in other movies who has small People/Creatures: Camera tricks. I mean, Lord of the rings or the hobbit didn't got any Criticism for not Hiring people with dwarfism.
Yeah but unlike the LOTR trilogy, Disney doesn’t put effort into their live action remakes, they’re just cashgrabs. I know The Hobbit trilogy was absolutely a cash grab, and as someone who’s favorite book is The Hobbit I was very disappointed with the trilogy. HOWEVER, they still used the same camera techniques, and The Hobbit trilogy is still a million times better than every Disney live action movie combined so the point still stands.
A perfect example of hiring a rarity, is when Spiderverse noticed a UA-camr that used Lego animations to recreated the trailers and were SO impressed, they hired the guy to do a stop motion animation scene in their movie. This being a kid mind you.
“Snow Tan, the One Kinda Dwarf, and the Six Tall Diversity Hires, Who Are Here Because Peter Dinklage Is the Only Little Person Who Can Have Work Apparently” Yeah, Imma just watch “Puss in Boots 2” and “Super Mario Bros.” again.
What is funny is that the OG Snow White is a well written character because she is the opposite of the evil queen, she is kind, gentle and optimistic. She is a great role model both to the dwarves in the movie and to the children that watch the movie. The movie shows you that if you are kind and optimistic you'll be able to live well and happy. I mean the evil queen was defeated by the dwarves because they cared for her and her acts of love and kindness is what lead to the evil queen's demise. The evil queen's death happened because of her spite towards Snow White being the fairest of them of all, which means beauty on the inside and out. The scene where the evil queen transforms into the old witch, it is a form of visual story telling revealing what the evil queen really looks like on the inside which is what makes her death more effective. She dies in her truest of form; ugly, spiteful and alone. Snow White is a great movie both in animation and story telling and by the way the prince was never a stalker, snow white was only frightened by him because he just came out of nowhere and so far she ran away because she fears the evil queen might harm him aswell.
@@Thomasmemoryscentralthey chased after the Queen, all the way up the side of a cliff. She tried to push a huge boulder on top of them. Instead, the cliffside she was standing on got struck by lightning, causing it to crumble, and then she fell, and then the huge boulder fell on top of her, and then a pair of vultures ate her.
This quote from Tumblr, courtesy of artist-issues, should sum it up nicely... Let me tell you a little something's about that "85-year-old cartoon," miss Zegler. *It was the first-ever cel-animated feature-length full-color film. Ever. Ever. EVER. I'm worried that you're not hearing me. This movie was Disney inventing the modern animated film. Spirited Away, Into the Spider-Verse, Tangled, you don't get to have any of these without Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937.) *It was praised, not just for its technical marvels, not just for its synchronized craft of sound and action, but primarily and enduringly because people felt like the characters were real. They felt more like they were watching something true to life than they did watching silent, live-action films with real actors and actresses. They couldn't believe that an animated character could make kids wet their pants as she flees, frightened, through the forest, or grown adults cry with grieving Dwarves. Consistently. *Walt Disney Studios was built on this movie. No no; you're not understanding me. Literally, the studio in Burbank, out of which has come legends of this craft of animated filmmaking, was literally built on the incredible, odds-defying, record-breaking profits of just Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, specifically. *Speaking of record-breaking profits, this movie is the highest-grossing animated film in history. Still. TO THIS DAY. In fact, it made four times as much money than any other film, in any other genre, released during that time period. It was actually THE highest-grossing film of all time, in any genre, until nothing less than Gone With the Wind, herself, came along to take the throne. *It was the first-ever animated movie to be selected for the National Film Registry. Actually, it was one of the first movies, period, to ever go into the registry at all. You know what else is in the NFR? The original West Side Story, the remake of which is responsible for Rachel Ziegler's widespread fame. *Walt Disney sacrificed for this movie to be invented. Literally, he took out a mortgage on his house and screened the movie to banks for loans to finish paying for it, because everyone from the media to his own wife and brother told him he was crazy to make this movie. And you want to tell me it's just an 85-year-old cartoon that needs the most meaningless of updates, with your tender 8 years in the business? *Speaking of sacrifice, this movie employed over 750 people, and they worked immeasurable hours of overtime, and invented--literally invented--so many new techniques that are still used in filmmaking today, that Walt Disney, in a move that NO OTHER STUDIO IN HOLLYWOOD was doing in the 30's, put this in the opening credits: "My sincere appreciation to the members of my staff whose loyalty and creative endeavor made possible this production." Not the end credits, like movies love to do today as a virtue-signal. The opening credits. *It's legacy endures. Your little "85-year-old cartoon" sold more than 1 million DVD copies upon re-release. Just on its first day. The Beatles quoted Snow White in one of their songs. Legacy directors call it "the greatest film ever made." Everything from Rolling Stones to the American Film Institute call this move one of the most influential masterpieces of our culture. This movie doesn't need anything from anybody. This movie is a cultural juggernaut for America. It's a staple in the art of filmmaking--and art, in general. It is the foundation of the Walt Disney Company, of modern children's media in the West, and of modern adaptations of classical fairy tales in the West. When you think only in the base, low, mean terms of "race" and "progressivism" you start taking things that are actually worlds-away from being in your league to judge, and you relegate them to silly ignorant phrases like "85-year-old cartoon" to explain why what you're doing is somehow better. Sit down and be humble. Who the heck are you?
Say whatever you will about the choice for Ariel. But at very least she enjoyed the role. Zegler doesn't come out as smart or funny. Only bitter and jealous. She'd be a great actress for the Evil Queen.
yeah. and honestly, i never really minded the casting for ariel all that much because her hair was the iconic part of her appearance, not her skin colour. she was also meant to be the heir to the caribbean sea iirc? so it made sense for her to look like someone from that area. still upset that her hair wasnt red, though. and halle actually enjoyed the role. but snow white??? doesnt she literally come from an old saying of a german idea of beauty? changing it feels like an insult to german folklore, on top of just wanting diversity points.
Hailey seems to love Ariel and enjoyed acting the role , but this woman ( whatever her name is ) seems to hate Snow White with a burning passion for some unknown reason
@@onigiri115 wait is that so? I think i just dont like the part they made Ariel the one to kill Ursula, and said that it is better. But overall at least Hailey seems really down to earth. But Rachel Zegler 🤮🤮🤮
@@momentsofflight Ariel's hair was still red in that movie, it was only a different shade of red. I watched that movie twice, so I can confirm that. Halle told in her interviews she wanted to give Ariel her fiery red hair like in the original movie, but they had to stuck with copper red hair instead, because the hair dye they used dissolved in water easily so it didn't stay there long.
I can live with Zegler not liking Snow White as a kid because she thought it looked scary. I can live with her not liking the prince that only has 5 minutes of screen time, I can live with her not liking romance stories but I can't give her a pass on spreading misinformation. A man notices a girl he finds attractive and then flirts with her right after noticing her and continues after she responds in kind. It's not stalking! JLongbone made a great response. Or how the Dwarfs living in caves is a harmful stereotype. Even tho the Dwarfs live in a cottage and they just work as miners. And Dwarfs from European folklore and people with dwarfism are two different things. It's so obvious these people haven't seen the movie ever or since when they were kids and if they see the movie recently they really weren't paying attention. If they want to bash the original can't they even make sure what they're talking about is true? It just shows how lazy those remakes are. Like she said, ''It's not 1930 anymore'', can't she do a Google search?
I am surprised you are even trying to intellectually come up with answers. What do you think she is going to say, "you are right"? She is a modern feminist that hates men. You think she cares about whether the dwarves were in mines etc? That's just an argument to fool the ignorant so people hate normal culture and follow her lead. So, do not waste your precious time on answering such stupid claims. If a person is worth knowing this, they already know it, this is common sense.
@@grildrago I don't think so. How do you not tell the difference between the Prince and the huntsman? Even the huntsman didn't stalk her. He was just given the order to kill her, so he took her to some far-away place under the pretense of picking flowers/having a nice day, and killing her but he couldn't because she's an innocent girl. He tells the truth, tells her to run, and tries to trick the queen by giving her a pig's heart. In unused scenes, he and the prince were put in a doggone and escaped together. The huntsman is kind of an MVP if they really wanted to ''fix'' the original they could've just added the scenes for the prince and the huntsman.
Well to be fair Rachel didn't write the script but spilled the beans. Okay so they're doing an update for a modern audience but she let the cat outta the bag so let's not rush to judgment. Fans may love the new Snow White story and it can be like a Barbie a slam dunk smash hit.
Would it REALLY make me racist for hiring a skilled white person for a position in my hypothetical company? If anything, it’s racist to avoid hiring a person of a non-marginalized group for being of a non-marginalized group. It’s like all these progressive policies do nothing but create a massive pendulum swing in the other direction.
That's a good way of putting it. The pendulum is swinging but now it's swinging too far in the other direction. It's like we hit The Sweet Spot we're all races and sexualities were finally being as accepted as they probably will be in our world but then all of a sudden they overshot their mark. And also there's the strange idea that there are no strong female characters when I get named 100 going all the way back to the silent film
The folks who screech & rant about being marginalized don't quite understand what a marginalized group actually is. A marginalized group has no VOICE in the society they dwell within. That alone should shut them up however they continue screeching & ranting until they tire out and need a nap.
@@stephenpmurphy591 I doubt if such kind of folks who always whinny about representation of remake ever watch it. They seems never talk about the story but only whatever representation
honestly if they wanted to hire a poc actor for Snow White, why not hire a poc with albinism? people with physical conditions in the acting workplace could deal with more love and attention
Yeah that makes a lot more sense. It's so weird to me because tmk the reason she was called snow white in the first place was because of her skin color. Her being pale skinned is literally a character trait

Never forget that She-Hulk was suppose to be a comedic courtroom drama until all the diverse female writers got together and found out none of them knew how to write a courtroom drama.
Because the directors and scenarists are as bad as she is, and are destroying the old piece with the new "shut up, I am a strong and independent woman" theme.
When I took my high school course in animation, we studied at the fact that Snow White was the first ever feature length fully colored animated films. It was an absolute mile stone and watching it back, You can tell that it was way ahead of its time. Snow white in my opinion is one of the most underrated princesses, that’s why when mirror mirror came out it was finally a great representation of what the movie could be. There is no reason for them to be making another snow white. Disney is truly and utterly pathetic For hiring someone with no respect or common decency for Beautiful DISNEY MADE films.
I find it funny how Rachel Zegler is pretending that the prince is actually a big part of the original movie when in reality he only has like 10 minutes of screentime, if he was such a big problem they could've just remove him in the remake and do what Frozen did with the true loves kiss and make the the love the dwarves have her be the thing brings her back, but nah catering to feminist who are too broke to buy tickets cause they need their daily Starbucks is more important.
Something tells me God knows, Considering how much Disney's been messing with kids I think it may be something involved at that point you've got God tearing disney down. I hope he's consoling Walt, Otherwise I dare not think what the man is doing in heaven. But it sure is not happy at this point.
Diversity hiring can be good when it's not purely based on a persons skin color/sexuality etc and takes their skill into account. There's a bunch of talented people in several industries that probably would've had a harder time getting in if it wasn't for diversity hiring (like the whole voice acting incident) but the difference is they're actually skillful and can do the work. Diversity is great but many companies think they can rely on that as a get out of jail free card as an excuse for not making good content. When really what their doing is hurting diversity in the industry
Thank you. This comment section was looking kind of scary so it's good to see a take like this. Some of the views I've seen others share here and on the internet in general show just how much Disney's lack of care can hurt diversity. As it seems that some people are seeing these bad examples of representation, and becoming hostile towards ANY representation. The worst part is, I doubt that all of them are aware of that fact. And I can't entirely blame them. As part of a marginalized group, I know what it's like to feel invisible when you see almost nobody who looks like you in the spotlight, or being highlighted for their worst moments. At the same time, some people generally don't have to confront this disconnect with their identity and the media they consume. So I can understand why it's easier to misjudge the importance of representation when you're not as directly confronted with a lack of it. I just hope that people continue to show some care towards the subject that Disney so woefully lacks. After all, it would serve everyone best to demand more genuine examples of representation, instead of turn their nose up at any attempt. Even I, as jaded by the company as I am, have to maintain some benefit of the doubt that they may still get it right.
The Batman had Commissioner Gordon, Carmine Falcone, and Catwoman all portrayed by black people when they were originally white and the movie still turned out good. Power Rangers since its inception was always diverse, having Black, Asian, Hispanic, and Polynesian people in its cast throughout the years. Throughout the past maybe seven years, I've learned that you can't force diversity. Companies like Blizzard and RoosterTeeth that brag about being "diverse" and "inclusive" are usually the most bigoted behind closed doors. I'm not gonna complain to racially homogenous companies about not having a diverse workplace as long as they do the job well and treat their employees and customers well (but honest diversity here and there wouldn't be too bad) The exclusion of people with dwarfism bugged me. There was an interview with Tom Kenny by Marc Maron about how he came up with the Spongebob voice, and it was based off of a really sad truth where the guy could ONLY work on Christmas because, well, elves are small. Wee Man of Jackass fame (who is also short) was interviewed by TMZ about Peter Dinklage's thoughts on the matter and basically called him a hypocrite. When you exclude one group to provide another, can you really call it diversity?
They can call it that, but it doesn't make it true! I can call myself a gorgon and you won't turn to stone. Frozen in shock for a moment doesn't count. XD
When they changed gordon his character wasn't defined by his blackness, when they changed catwoman now she had an anti white racism baked into the character. Harvey dent was still just a DA, his race didn't matter. Batman could be black, you just can't make the story about him BEING black. See what I mean? It's about him losing his family and becoming the world's greatest detective, but if you make it about race you get the MARVEL Max Nighthawk, who because he is black only fights for black people and only against white supremacists. This is why your examples need to be fleshed out and this is why raceswapping doesn't work. They change the entire character to be some sort of victim instead of letting them prosper. I've been all over Kansas. If you race swapped superman now you don't need the race baiting. He could just be a guy that had bullies like everyone else. You don't have to make Lex Luthor the head of the Klan, see what I'm saying?
I have to disagree as a practicing writer, since all characters to ever exist have had visual appearances to define them, especially if they were written by a writer. Ariel was depicted as having clear skin, white legs, and blue eyes in her original fairytale, yet people still act like her established appearance didn't matter, cause we need black mermaid representation in EUROPEAN stories. Superman as another example has always been a pale man with black hair along with blue eyes in a blue latex suit and red trunks, complete with his signature S on the chest. Characters don't need their race to be integral to their character, since they already have an established appearance. Barry Allen is a blonde white speedster in nearly all his appearances, meaning that's his established appearance. Ariel, Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, and Belle were all established as European women ranging from French to German in their appearances in Disney's movies and merchandise for decades. It annoys me when people don't acknowledge the visual appearance of a character and act like it is an interchangeable aspect, when it genuinely isn't, because that helps define a character in your mind.
My only problem is the trend of replacing redheads (a very small minority) with black characters just to be diversity inclusive (Little Mermaid April O Neil) but the guy who played Gordon was great and The Batman was basically an alternate universe than established movie canon and I don't have a problem with Selena being black as her race has been changing for decades
There’s a local restaurant that opened where I live and the boss hired a diverse staff of employees and used it to promote the restaurant on social media. I had a couple of conversations with the owner and he always complained about how his workers were lazy and terrible at their jobs. The restaurant went out of business less than a year.
Let me guess, some of the workers spend more time lecturing the customers of their pronouns than actuallu doing their jobs? No suprise that they went out of business.
In my opinion, why didn't Disney just make snow white as an albino if they wanna make it "diverse" so bad? It would've more fit her character, since her name is Snow White, which means her skin is as white as a snow.
If “anyone can fit anywhere” how low skilled must the slots they want to fill be? You couldn’t “diversity hire” a brain surgeon. It takes a certain set of skills.
The prince never stalked Snow White, he only made two appearances. Most of the movie was dedicated to Snow White running away from her stepmother that wants to kill her.

If i may share a personal story relating to this... I recently graduated college, alongside a lovely islamic friend of mine, for Cybersecurity. We were both top-of-the-class students (I know this sounds like I'm bragging, trust me, there's a point to this) with very similar qualifications and skillsets. When we were applying for scholarships, we eventually came to the decision that, both to improve our applications and to test the extent to which this bias exists, we should work together to write our scholarship applications. By the time we sent them out, our scholarship applications were nearly identical (not copy-pasted, but had near-identical qualifications and experience), the only meaningful difference being that I was a white male, and she was an Islamic woman. I got 2 scholarships. She got over 30. While I was, and still am, incredibly proud of her since she absolutely deseved every bit of fiscal support she got, the fact that our race and gender were the only substantial difference in qualification is a bit telling.
The spiderman spider verse movies were like a medicine honestly. The real good writing with both inclusivity if you care and it is about the plot, not patriarchy
I'm so tired of people saying that the Prince from Snow White is a creep for kissing Snow White when he thought she was dead. People act as if he put his tongue down her throat while she looks like a regular corpse. Maybe I'm just more comfortable with death because of my upbringing. There's a European tradition that you would kiss dead people goodbye. You would also wait with a dying person because dying alone was one of the most horrible ways to die. In Poland, you would spend three days with the dead body of your relative in the house so family and friends have time to say goodbyes. We even have pictures of family members in coffins, so we could remember them.
Yes!! Thank you for mentioning it! I'm from East Europe and we have many traditions when a person dies, especially one from our family / close relatives / friends. Keeping the person in the house before burying them and kissing them are normal traditions for us. Some americans found it disturbing and without a second thought began calling it "weird" and simply being disrespectful towards other people's cultures and traditions!
@@authorssd I recently watched an episode of CSI or NCIS something (there are so many of them) and the doctor doing the autopsy and the agent/cop/whatever were making jokes over the dead body. I know the show needs some humor because no one is serious all the time and it makes sad moments hit harder but that was just inappropriate.
I'm a tomboyish lesbian and because of this trend, I'm now scared of being affected by it. Like, having to worry about whether I was hired because I'm qualified or because the HR wanted their company to check the "lesbian" box on their inclusivity bingo card. One of my acquaintances is a black woman and she's also concerned that some people may end up hiring her bc she's black. Ironically, they don't recognize how much they're harming minorities in the process in at least both ways. The first is that some IT specialist who happens to be gay or a mestizo will be met with backlash bc people will automatically assume that him having a husband or being brown got him the job. The second is that while they claim to be supportive, they still end up highlighting our innate features (race, sex, orientation) and prioritizing them over our qualifications and personality.
Does anyone remember that whole submarine incident? The reason it disappeared and all the weird safety hazards happened was because the guy who was the director of the whole thing hired young and inexperienced adult literally for the sake of diversity and inclusion, cause didn't want to hire "old white guys" aka ex military marine fighters who actually knew what they were doing.
Idk that guy seemed like he wanted to off himself, not inclusivity He probably hired inexperienced people so safety regulations wouldn't be as strict? Apparently he hated safety as a whole? Idk, the whole thing was so weird
And the WORST part is...because they hire for the sake of diversity, they skip out on ACTUALLY talented and skilled diverse people who would help fit that quota. And down the line, it makes life harder for them because now they have to work extra hard to prove they're not just for the inclusivity.
Snow White: *Skin White as Snow, hair black as ebony, lips red as the rose* . The actress looks nothing like that description. Worse she hates the original work, hates the ride, disrespects Walt Disney himself and calls the prince a stalker.
In the original fairytale, her lips are red as blood (because her mother's finger was bleeding and some blood fell on the snow), but Disney changed that for some reason.
@@tultsi93 Some versions have it as that. And yes the Disney did it this way but the Disney version of the remake is the one the should be following right?
When the original Snow White was created, it was meant to give motivation and hope for all women who waited their fiancés and husbands come back home from the state of war alive and well. The song "Someday My Prince Will Come" symbolizes that, and the "remake" is going to ruin the soul of the classic.
They can recast Snow White with a German actress, write the script to be closer to the original, and cast seven actors with dwarfism. It’s not too late. Imagine fleshed out backstories for each dwarf, it would be like The Hobbit but more colorful.
In live-action, I see how physical attributes matter in terms of casting, unlike animation (seriously the idea you need to be the exact same identity as a character to VA them so you're not being offensive is once of the most bs things i've ever heard). There's a lot of people with acting skill that fit Snow White, but you'd have to find the one that best gives the physical impression of her to be the act most believable, representing one of the most memorable animated characters of all time. That's huge! They could've got an actor from Germany and also show a good bit of German culture, but this is a Disney remake we're talking about. Edit: I was intending to add this bit...skin color still doesn't affect me all that much in live-action. Acting comes with love and genuity, plus acting as someone you're not. But the reason this whole thing blew up was because of Zeglar's attitude. It's nasty, she doesn't even try to understand Snow White as a character and role model. At least Haille Bailey was pretty nice to people, certain comments aside, and you'd believe she'd be a princess (she would've truly shined as Tiana or a new Disney princess). But Rachel (idk the exact spelling, I'm on my phone)? She should be the queen and witch, let's be real. She talks nothing like a princess, she's looking forward to inserting herself into the movie instead of giving Snow White to the world, and that's not what an actor should do.
People hated on Chris Pratt for voicing Mario because he isn’t Italian when he was the VOICE ACTOR of an ANIMATED MOVIE, but don’t say anything when Disney hires a POC person to play a white character in a LIVE ACTION REMAKE.
What actually is most disturbing about Rachel’s statements is that she jokes that they could cut out all of the Prince’s lines, even mentioning her co-star by name and laughing about it. This is his livelihood, and she is making a joke about it. Disney, given how desperate for cash they are (and now that their stock is at a 9 year low), could write him out of the script and not pay him. But this sadly is a trend for Disney making their male leads irrelevant. Most often by taking the pivotal moments from the Prince and either giving it to the Princess (like Ariel defeating Ursula) or someone else (like Maleficent breaking Aurora’s curse). If they are going to do something like that, just cut him out of the movie, it will be a mercy.
Finally someone understands. There’s so many unqualified people in the workforce, plus all this does is it boils people down to their skin color or whatever physical attributes. Remember when Martin Luther King dreamt of people getting along because of CHARACTER, not the content of their skin, etc.
They totally ignored the most important type of diversity needed for this movie: PEOPLE WITH DWARFISM! They're the only people that would actually be good and productive to be inclusive for. They just went "no, we realize you guys struggle with getting roles, but we're just gonna hire average height people to play dwarves."
@@DarwinRoger893 cause he is a rich as heck actor he couldn't possibly understand how getting roles like that would help other less popular or seen actors

God, this age of Disney remakes have ZERO respect for the company's history and identity. Snow White was the first animated movie ever made. Sure, there have been animated cartoons before, but this was the first full-length film of said medium. Everyone criticized and had little faith in Walt Disney when he set out to do it. They said it would be his folly. But Walt and his talented team pulled it off, proving everyone wrong and creating something groundbreaking in the industry. Snow White made its mark on film history and started the Golden Age of Disney. Mickey Mouse is the face of Disney as a whole, but it was Snow White that cemented the company's place in the film industry for years to come. Without Snow White, there would be no Spiderverse, Spirited Away or Lion King. Without this beautiful eighty-five year old movie, we would have less beauty and imagination in the world.
✨Fun trivia✨ The prince was actually going to have a bigger role in the story one of them being him getting captured and locked up in the wicked queen dungeon (possible from the true love first kiss) but he has to hard to animated so Left out. Begins and ends with the book of the jungle book.
The original Snow White film was a masterpiece because it’s the reason why we have animated movies now. Disney will die because of this remake and I’m here for it.
If I had a nickel for each time, this past year, a beloved female animated character from the early/mid 20th century had been rebooted into an unlikeable, mean-spirited, narcissist that in no way resembles the original character she was based on as Hollywood's way of "updating" the character for "modern audiences," I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's so disheartening that it's happened twice now.
If I recall, the fact that there's only one "dwarf" with Dinklage is because of him specifically. Like he didn't want any other actors with dwarfism to be in the cast for some holier than thou reason but he'd be willing to make the "sacrifice" to star in it. There's an interview with one of those talk show hosts I think where Dinklage gives the dumbest reason for participating in this... thing.
Disney: we are so inclusive! Also disney: - cancel an amazing, mature and deep show simply cuz the two main character were girls in inocent love - cancels the only show with dwarfism representation(The show is called "Willow" as i heard) and then doesnt even let literaly dwarfs exsist(even as fantasy characters) -manly has poc, queer and disabled characters just to have them, but they have no purpose and are mostly stereotypical Anything i forgot?
I normally don't care about live action remakes or casting choices, it didn't matter for the little mermaid cos her appearance wasn't important to the story. But snow white is called snow white because "her skin is as white as snow and her hair is pitch black", if they wanted to her to be diverse, why not hire someone east Asian? They fit snow White's description perfectly. Not to mention the actress seems to dislike and not care for the original.
Disney missed a huge opportunity if they really want to pander in their inclusivity, is hire actors with dwarfism. Another Snow White Live Action did this and made it work really well. Why didn't Disney do this?
Once Peter Dinklage climbed the ladder to Hollywood fame, he pulled it behind him, took an axe to it and set it on fire, in front of other dwarf actors.
In summary, good writing matters more than inclusivity. As a Muslim who comes from an Arab family, I don’t wanna see something that’s not relatable or not heart touching in some capacity. Doesn’t matter the skin color, what matters mostly is good writing. If you want a good example of inclusivity and good writing put together, check out “A Thousand And One” or The SpiderVerse duology.
I'm African American and currently in a university where my major is Theatre Art focused on acting. I had 4 years in a community college and then transferred into a college for where I planned to graduate in the next two years hoping to get a career in film/animation. Now I'm worried that I may not be able to get it because a studio like Disney would look at my resume, say they might call me back until the next day I wasn't hired because a transgender person with no education or effort put into their work would get a role instead. I okay working with people of preferred sexuality and ideals, but at same time I would like those who have actual knowledge and talent as I currently working towards.
Bro it's not going to be a "transgender person with no education.." replacing you. It's way more likely that you'd just be denied due to racial prejudice or person who's studied and just happens to be trans. (I get that's forced but whatever) The idea of progressive hiring on race or gender on any sort of meaningful scale is reactionary lie. "They're taking our jobs" has been used to justify removal of groups in the past and is dangerous rhetoric. But hey anyway good luck with your career.
Yeah, Latina Gringa is just an amalgamation of poor choices and diversity casting. Btw, it was Peter Dinklage complaining about how backwards the dwarfs were in interviews, that caused Disney to turn the dwarfs from dwarfs, into the rejects of the forest.
So they are also taking away acting roles from people who have dwarfism? WTH. Willy Wonka also did this and there are multiple actors out there that would love to be hired. I never liked the remakes anyway so passing on this one too.
If I remember correctly, that first girl in the red-orange shirt was actually pretty reasonable in the original video but that ONE frame that everybody knows her for made her look crazy.
Diversity is great, when they execute them well aswell. When it fails, it is a failure. I have autism and wanted to see some great autistic representation, but mostly in Hollywood they choose the smart autistic person trope which succs. The best representation fpr autism is when the creator and the person acting having autism or supporting autism with many small details that autistic people can relate aswell. ( Basically the best representation is to make characters that feel relatable to people with same and different kind of person.)
Monster High G3 has good autism representation. Twyla isn't a smart head but not a dumbbell either. It shows she has stims and breaking points, and uses earmuffs around loud noises. Not only the series shows she's autistic, but Twyla herself tells that. She also gets a boyfriend, showing disabled people can also have romances.
I can get being scared during certain parts of Snow White but the prince stalking her and the romance being a big part of the movie? What? There was barely any romance and the prince had like two scenes total. If anything how lacking it was was a bigger issue. They met like once and suddenly it was instant love. She legit has zero idea about the original movie. She is basically one of those people who argue about a particular thing online while not understanding what they are actually arguing about.
Movies not even out yet and they already messed up the title. Snow white is not snow white, and the Dwarves arnt even dwarves. You might as well call it "And the 7"
The first four minutes of this video reminds me of the time when a few colleges and universities in my area started accepting a huge number minorities into their schools, regardless of their academic standing. However, they excluded Asians because they were already really smart and didn't need that special treatment even though Asians are, indeed, also minorities. My sister had a hard time getting into some universities despite her outstanding grades because spaces were getting filled up and she didn't get the special minority treatment even though she and the rest of my family are Asian. The schools had good intentions but, man, that left me and our family bitter for a very long time.
@@lokkomotive8153Dude, it was most schools. They actually are required to report what they consider when letting students in. For most high-ranking or decent state schools, a student being a minority was ranked at a mid to high importance level, and thus got the student a significant amount of points in the algorithm to decide who they let in. Sure, many schools below the top 100 didn't consider it important, but a lot of people aim for the top 30 schools, almost all of which were extremely biased.
@@lildemonchan7690have you considered that good grades aren’t something exceptional to colleges and students who are more likely to be from poorer socioeconomic backgrounds (minorities) with good grades and exceptional extracurricular activities are more attractive prospects?
@@Parrallaxatives Yes, because I am one of those students. I’m a cultural minority who was valedictorian and was also the mvp of one of my school’s sports, as well as being a Governor’s School Mathematics, Engineer Academy, and Clemson Biomedical Engineering summer student. Getting into a prestigious college has consumed my life for years. So yes, I know that that is what schools look for, but this topic was also highly considered by most prestigious universities until last year.
@@lildemonchan7690 those things are definitely impressive to colleges but my problem is the fact that I see so many people complaining that they knew a guy with good grades who didn’t get into Harvard allegedly because they were white. Whether these people want to admit it or not, one’s race plays a huge factor in their background and that background plays a huge factor in determining the difficulty of one’s success most of the time. These people feel like they had their birthright of going to Harvard stripped from them and given to some random black person who skipped school when that’s just not the case.
@@Parrallaxatives Yes, it is not reasonable for someone with just good grades to just make it into a top school. I know that very well, and I’ve even told people that multiple times. However, that is not the real issue. The issue is the people who made average or below average grades that made it into schools they were not prepared for while people of a different background with better grades and outstanding achievement got waitlisted or denied. I could have been benefitted by A.A. back when it existed, but I am glad to have had it gone when I applied to my university. I like to know that I got in based on my merit and achievement rather than it being just because my ancestors were unjustly treated.
If one day you ever felt like a loser, just remember that Disney made a remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but cast a brown person as Snow White (even though the name of the show literally refers to her skin color as being white) and one dwarf person for convenience, five normal-sized POC people, and one tall guy as the Seven Dwarfs, they also omitted Prince Charming from the original story and added something that was never ever mentioned in the story whatsoever: Adventuring the Independency. So be happy that an entire organization with their people are lower and stupider than your high intelligence.
You know... I've seen a lot of East Asian women with hair as black as night, snowy white skin, and ruby red lips. Do Korean or Japanese women never came into their minds?
I think it was crazy that she just openly talks about her male co star like she could cut them out the movie on a whim....I wonder if shes taking notes from Mindy Kaylin.
Snow White but she's actually latina or something Seven dwarves but they are actually regular people and some of them are girls too And there's no prince- WHY IS THIS EVEN CALLED SNOW WHITE?
Rachel Zeglers interviews - along with Brie Larsons interviews from 2018-2019 - remind me of a scene from “The Congress” (2013) where Robin Wright sees a aired “interview” with her digital persona that makes her look dumb. This movie predicted so many things.
I honestly love and hate diversity hiring. While it does allow for better morale and diversity and culture in the workplace. Diversity hiring is almost always based on race or ethnicity, even though it should include, disabilities, history, religion, and more. but no, just hire a black guy and suddenly the company isn’t racist.
personally i think diversity hiring is a bad thing. its always good to have a variety of voices from different backgrounds on your team, but hiring people purely for their diversity only leads to further segregation and stereotyping.
@@vronji my point was that hiring based on diversity is stupid. it should be just a bonus of a person being hired. Like how grape skins are a byproduct of certain foods so using them to color certain snacks is a use for them. You have a new coworker who is more than qualified and they just so happen to be Jewish, cool some surprise diversity in the workplace that didn’t rely on them being Jewish to get hired
Hiring people based on their diversity is exactly like outcasting people of color. Either way, it makes it sound like you don’t believe that poc or marginalized people have skills of their own to make their way for themselves.
Beyond just the movies, some of the rhetoric makes it obvious that a primary reason is to raise the bar of entry. Like some of the rhetoric you hear is, "You can't find someone of [trait] for your job?" implying that if the company doesn't have the LUXURY of having enough time and money to turn down qualified applicants until they find one of the sufficient minority status, that they shouldn't exist. Like you know how when Disney made Moana they had a ton of correspondence with various Polynesian communities to try and check over the movie to ensure that it wouldn't be offensive? What if some small studio wanted to make a piece of media based on Maui but it was just a small studio who couldn't do that - the most that they might be able to do is have some research on the things they want to portray and perhaps pay out of pocket for a trip to Oceania. There would be people who say, "You can't make this work that shows nothing but respect for a culture that isn't your own because you didn't hire any people from that background!" Even if they did everything that was reasonable for them, with their time and resources, to do and even if there was nothing in the work that was inaccurate to Maui's source lore.
I would prefer for Snow White to be played by an albino actress so they are inclusive and people don't get angry, or at least have a white actress who does respect Snow White... greetings from Argentina 📱🖐
not really relevant but I just wanted to say, that you, Jack, make amazing vids! You, being a person of color, someone from LGBTQ+ community AND A FURRY who calls out actual bigots and weirdos? 👏👏👏 Keep that up :) - a random girl from Ukraine aka me
So yes, we are now diverse, less racism, less act of misconduct in companies towards people of different races, however what these companies lacked is the fact that they kept hiring this or that regardless of their background. such instances resulting with people like Rachel Zegler, who's a complete snark, was hired to be the main character (that she disliked btw) of Disney's live action Snow White., all because Disney's pushing this diversity propaganda without looking at Rachel's super insulting conduct (rumor has it she's acting up so bad in set too) so again, this inclusivity was so hypocritical when you also realize that John Boyega's character was removed from the Star Wars' Chinese poster all because he's black and it's China were talking here. So again it's a complete 180. they're making this "woke" propaganda, all the while censoring the same diverse people to appeal to such countries like China bc they fear these communist parties would fume up with their own propaganda machine and it goes on and on. I've had enough.
So there was someone I was arguing with in a comments section, and they said this about diversity hires: "I hear them throw out the Term "Diversity Hire" A LOT. What is that? I'm to assume its something hired purely to make a film diverse but how would they know if that's the case? They say that they think the best actor for the part should get the part but how do they know they didn't? Why do they assume the better actor isn't another actor of color? They called Halle Bailey a Diversity Hire despite the casting director stating that they picked Bailey because she could sing and the Runner up actress couldn't while they BOTH were of equal acting quality. Wouldn't that make Bailey the Best Actress for the part? Yes it would. They only call her a Diversity Hire because she is black which IS racist." Make of that what you will.
Thats why the one piece live action was a success the people who acted in the show actually watched and liked the show and gave it there all and got the characters correct and say what you want about usopps actor but in my opinion the actor was perfect for usopp and he did good
It shouldn’t be about the skin someone has, it should be about the TALENT someone has.
Not just the TALENT tho, but the ATTITUDE that they have.
That won't get Disney the ESG scores they want
And she has none.
@@gregthehedgehog0956 Yeah but those of us who are rational can just say “Fuck the ESG!”.

Disney and a lot of other companies have a HUGE bias when it comes to inclusion, they will include all races, but if you're a clav or middle eastern, su ks to be you, you're gonna be portrayed as a terrorist or some sort of criminal in any media you're in.
Short shrift.
@@marknewton6984 jesus christ that was so 💀
I think Ratatouille did a great job of explaining the initial vision of what "diversity hires" *SHOULD HAVE* been.
Affirmative action, in the making, folks 💀
They do it as a free shield from criticism

Hmmm not very inclusive of you Disney
Peter Dinklage didn't want them to.
Yeah, they did this with Willow (the movie).
A perfect example of hiring a rarity, is when Spiderverse noticed a UA-camr that used Lego animations to recreated the trailers and were SO impressed, they hired the guy to do a stop motion animation scene in their movie. This being a kid mind you.
I saw this guy on twitter! He's like 14 or something.

I havent watched the film in about 2 decades at least but if i try to recount the climax, didnt it take all 7 dwarfs to defeat the evil queen?
Spirited Away, Into the Spider-Verse, Tangled, you don't get to have any of these without Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937.)
*It was praised, not just for its technical marvels, not just for its synchronized craft of sound and action, but primarily and enduringly because people felt like the characters were real.

@@grildrago I don't think so.
How do you not tell the difference between the Prince and the huntsman? Even the huntsman didn't stalk her. He tells the truth, tells her to run, and tries to trick the queen by giving her a pig's heart. In unused scenes, he and the prince were put in a doggone and escaped together.

The Batman had Commissioner Gordon, Carmine Falcone, and Catwoman all portrayed by black people when they were originally white and the
movie still turned out good.
I'm not gonna complain to racially homogenous companies about not having a diverse workplace as long as they do the job well and treat their employees and customers well (but honest diversity here and there wouldn't be too bad)
The exclusion of people with dwarfism bugged me.
Soo, Peter Dinklage is a freaking entitled asshole who thinks is better than any other dwarf actor in the world?
Why does she think the Prince is a stalker? He only shows up twice in the movie and I barely remember him by the time he shows up at the end.
@@I_Dont_Believe_In_Saladand the hunter doesn't even hurt her either, he (in the grim story) gave the queen a pigs heart instead because he didn't want to hurt Snow White... Neither the prince nor the hunter wanted to hurt Snow White, Ziegler is just doing gold metal winning mental gymnastics

You got screwed.

@@sacredrider there are exceptions. But not the rule.
As morbid as that sounds at the same time I think that's pretty sweet.
Moreover, if I do remember correctly the original story of Snow-white, she is not supposed to look dead...? She only looks asleep...
Wonderful death positivity on display! That sounds like a really wholesome way to deal with the dead snd help you mourn.
Idk that guy seemed like he wanted to off himself, not inclusivity
He probably hired inexperienced people so safety regulations wouldn't be as strict?
ESG has been nothing but a blight on entertainment.
It's a blight on any industry that routinely requires loans/funding.
What's esg?
Peter Dinklage just wanted everything to himself. That’s why he fucked up everyone’s roles.

I really like your narrative voice because you're very curt and direct. My boy doesn't f*ck around. Respect.
And for that, "Mirrow Mirrow" is my favorite Snow White's live actions. Even if for a lot of people she gave Mary Sue vibes.

The prince was actually going to have a bigger role in the story one of them being him getting captured and locked up in the wicked queen dungeon (possible from the true love first kiss) but he has to hard to animated so Left out.
There were silly symphony short to help the animators to be prepare for snow white were... Babes in the forest, the worm turn, and the goddess of spring
The first animated movie walt considered doing first was Alice in wonderland. but later decided to do snow white, because he was inspired by the play of snow white and the seven dwarfs .
(And something i noticed but correct me im wrong)
The first movie walt Disney ever made for snow white Begin and end with the book , and the last movie was was involved in. Begins and ends with the book of the jungle book.
The original Snow White film was a masterpiece because it’s the reason why we have animated movies now. Disney will die because of this remake and I’m here for it.
Even Walt Disney's descendents called out the absurdity of the remake!!!
Also disney:
- cancel an amazing, mature and deep show simply cuz the two main character were girls in inocent love
- cancels the only show with dwarfism representation(The show is called "Willow" as i heard) and then doesnt even let literaly dwarfs exsist(even as fantasy characters)
-manly has poc, queer and disabled characters just to have them, but they have no purpose and are mostly stereotypical
Anything i forgot?
I normally don't care about live action remakes or casting choices, it didn't matter for the little mermaid cos her appearance wasn't important to the story. But snow white is called snow white because "her skin is as white as snow and her hair is pitch black", if they wanted to her to be diverse, why not hire someone east Asian? They fit snow White's description perfectly. Not to mention the actress seems to dislike and not care for the original.
"Hair black as ebony tree, lips red as blood and skin white as snow." in the book version.
I mean she's German so that wouldn't work either

Once Peter Dinklage climbed the ladder to Hollywood fame, he pulled it behind him, took an axe to it and set it on fire, in front of other dwarf actors.
In summary, good writing matters more than inclusivity. As a Muslim who comes from an Arab family, I don’t wanna see something that’s not relatable or not heart touching in some capacity. Doesn’t matter the skin color, what matters mostly is good writing. If you want a good example of inclusivity and good writing put together, check out “A Thousand And One” or The SpiderVerse duology.
Hollywood usually doesn't even like touching on Middle eastern culture and when they do, they do it wrong and just reinforce stereotypes.
Yes it does matter in this case !!! Its snow white ...
(I get that's forced but whatever)
The idea of progressive hiring on race or gender on any sort of meaningful scale is reactionary lie.
"They're taking our jobs" has been used to justify removal of groups in the past and is dangerous rhetoric.
But hey anyway good luck with your career.
If we don’t hold people to a standard, how can we expect anything to be made with care?
Yeah, Latina Gringa is just an amalgamation of poor choices and diversity casting. Btw, it was Peter Dinklage complaining about how backwards the dwarfs were in interviews, that caused Disney to turn the dwarfs from dwarfs, into the rejects of the forest.
So they are also taking away acting roles from people who have dwarfism? WTH. Willy Wonka also did this and there are multiple actors out there that would love to be hired. I never liked the remakes anyway so passing on this one too.

The best representation fpr autism is when the creator and the person acting having autism or supporting autism with many small details that autistic people can relate aswell.

So there was someone I was arguing with in a comments section, and they said this about diversity hires:
"I hear them throw out the Term "Diversity Hire" A LOT. They only call her a Diversity Hire because she is black which IS racist."
Make of that what you will.
You wouldn't let them develop a submarine, do you?
Oh you do... huh. Wonder how that go... 😮
Thats why the one piece live action was a success the people who acted in the show actually watched and liked the show and gave it there all and got the characters correct and say what you want about usopps actor but in my opinion the actor was perfect for usopp and he did good
@@lokkomotive8153 yeah your right which is why i thought it was a good decision i always felt like he was black or tan i dont know
@@shonenroad4206the same crowd that complained about diversity hiring complained about namis sister being “too dark”
