The single greatest value of a mentor is accountability.
When we are able to hold ourselves accountable, there is no need for a mentor!

I needed this right now. I'm so different and unique I have a hard time having someone who can understand what I need help with. I'm sort of burying the idea of "getting a mentor" and instead customizing my life's adventure with people and wisdom that helps me right now with the next big thing I need to accomplish.

You’ll never have it all figured out, at any stage, at any age, at any level. Embrace the discomfort of feeling like you don’t know wtf you’re doing - because only in HINDSIGHT does ANY clarity on right/wrong choices set in.

This was exactly the thing I needed to hear! We've started a company a few weeks ago, it felt so alone and unknown, I was looking for a mentor. Even a few weeks ago in one of the calls we had, someone saying keep doing what you've started was more than enough.
It is always nice to learn from other's mistakes, so that we don't have to do them ourselves but you are right, it is not one person we are looking for. It will take more than one person probably.
I now know that we can and will figure it out along the way. Thank you for the inspiration Leila!

Love this Leila. I used to want a mentor because it was a “cool thing”.
Then I got a into mentoring program and I was like grrreeat but not what I was expecting.
The mentor they paired me with could not relate to my experiences or my dreams as they were in a totally different space and industry. Our phone calls were just to tick the box.
I have made so much more progress curating a virtual set of mentors. Each one provides insight into a different area and they are a video away or a book away.

I've never wanted a mentor. I've had people in my circle, friends and family, that have provided a degree of "mentorship" but I've never had an official mentor. The closest I've been to that is probably and NCO when I was in the military. Everything else I've learned just by observing the world through personal experiences, UA-cam, books, podcasts, etc, and good ole fashion trial and error. Everything that's in this reality has a beginning. We get so caught in finding someone to teach us that we forget the potential to be the first, or just learning organically. That's still a real thing. It may take longer, but ofter you learn so much more than having someone teach you have they found success through their personal limitations.

I resonate with what you said in the video.
I did not know anyone in my life that achieved what I wanted to achieve and I remembered that quote: You are the average of the people you surround yourself with.
So I turned to the internet and so I made the conscious decision to "brainwashing" myself with the content of people who made it. I have to say tho, it is tricky sometimes.
Sometimes it just feels like mental masturbation that doesnt lead to action. Thats something to watch out for.

Mentors make sense if you're doing the same job as the mentor. Most people just want correct advise tailored to them. The best person you can find is just a human contact that is highly successful and watching you. That way you can demonstrate excellence and then they can place you in the right job almost immediately or invest in your first business so you can skip the first 5 years of just grinding away at minimum wage jobs just to save up money to invest in yourself, just to prove yourself, so people with money have permission to take you seriously.

I don't understand how business is "hard". I'm not the average customer but I either buy because it works (or I want it), or I don't. There's no "hard" that's needed from the salesperson or the marketing team. I feel the only thing that is hard about business is beating Google and the fact that they've hijacked the whole economy. That's the main game these days. Maybe we could talk about that. Or at least clarify what is hard.
