    I too was not initially interested in this pattern. However my mother was recently complaining about her sagging neck skin and I got the idea to knit her some and it’s been a hit for her to wear stylishly and for me to knit meditatively! Win-win!

    After I started knitting sophie scarves I find myself putting that same i-cord edge on other projects that don't call for it. I find it makes the edges SO pristine!! Right now I'm doing that edge on the strap/belt of a wrap around sweater and it's absolutely perfect. I would like to make a sophie shawl. I wonder if it's made the same way, just with more increases, or if there are other differences in the pattern.

    • @professorpurl
      @professorpurl  Рік тому +1

      same! I feel like it made me fall in love with the I-cord edging. Also, I want to make a Sophie shawl perhaps in the coming fall or winter.

    You may consider a free pattern on Ravelry called the "Schelpje." I've knit 3 Sophie Scarfs: an olive green tweed, a denim blue tweed, & a pinky/peach soft wool. Almost as addictive as socks!🥰💕🧶

    Two UA-cam tutorials by The Ginger Ninja Journals helped me with the start and finish of the Sophie Scarf. It gave helpful directions on the i-cord edging, increases, and decreases.

    I know these scarves are so fun to make! I made one out of a cotton linen blend, which I really like. Happy knitting, glad you came up on my feed.

    I have only made one so far- it is in a grey, undyed alpaca yarn that I bought from an alpaca rescue in the Tacoma, WA area so it was very special to me since I met the rescued alpaca the yarn came from, and it reminded me of where I consider home (I live on the east coast now). I started this project on a whim and stayed up all night to finish it the night before my partner and I eloped at the courthouse because I thought it would go well with my mushroom skirt that I wore. It was worth it!

    • @professorpurl
      @professorpurl  Рік тому

      oh that's so sweet that you met the rescued Alpaca. that is such a sweet Sophie scarf! I've heard of people that can knit one in a day/night. I am not one of those people lol

      @wildflowermagicknits Рік тому

      @@professorpurl haha, I mean it took me ALL. NIGHT. 🤣 I was worried I'd look exhausted in all my photos from that day and we were later than expected getting to the courthouse because we went to a coffee shop first... Drip coffee wouldn't cut it, I needed several shots of espresso 😁

    I only discovered the Sophie scarf about three weeks ago. I instantly loved it and purchased the pattern. I am a fairly new knitter but have made icords in knit and crochet but never on a garment. Being I live in Florida where it’s pretty hot all year long I decided to make my Sophie scarf in a very soft, lovely cotton. Also blue. I wear a lot of denim, so I figured it would go with so many things.
    I don’t think I’ve ever gotten attached to an accessory as I have with this little scarf.
    You’ve inspired me to make a wardrobe of them also.

    A few more to add to your bundle. I've not tried these yet. Vineyard Scarf by Lene Rix, Skyward Kerchief by Toni Lipsey (crochet, 783Nora did a "sophie-esque" version), Disturbia Shawl by Hanna Gough (crochet), Airy Breeze by Gretha Mensen, Autumn Comes by Lisa Hannes, The Simple Thing by Melina Brell (free, very much like Sophie), Elin Bandana Scarf by Katrine Hannibal (I love the stripes!), Itsy Bitsy Ascot by Jocy McCormack (stockinette tube), Simply Irresistible by Christie Archer (stockinette tube)

    Two suggestions for alternatives:
    •The Pool Shawl by Pia Trans of FiftyFabulousKnits - she suggests/has made just a tiny one with a small bit of leftover yarn and uses it as a shawl collar! It has beautiful texture and drape.

    I like the wider version better.
    How wide is it?
    How much yarn did it take?
    If I am afraid of not having enough yarn, should I use bigger needles? I loved your warm-hearted presentation .

    Your pink scarf is so beautiful! Lovely yarn.
    I think it’s interesting that such a relatively simple garment has become so hugely popular. There is now a Crochet version, called the Lucy Scarf.

    I love the idea of holding fingering weight double for this pattern. I usually don't like really snug things around my neck, like in the sample photo you first showed. However, the way you tie the Hamburg scarf looks really comfortable and stylish.

    I've made a sophie scarf in Crux Fibres silk linen yarn and made it extra long. It's beautiful and feels so nice! Then I made one with bulky/itchy yarn. haha It looks good, but I don't like the feel of it. I made a couple with superwash sock yarn held double - different yarns so you get a marled effect. One has a different coloured tip (cuz I ran out of yarn), but i like the colour blocked look. This pattern is definitely addictive! I hardly ever make the same pattern twice (except socks), but this one has me hooked.

    I have yet to knit a Sophie scarf, but I think it would be really cute for my toddlers and I may have to cast one on! The Italian Knitter just released a similar looking one, I think it’s called an Italian summer scarf. It’s similar to the Sophie scarf but has eyelet rows too, and looks nice!

    A Sophie shwl😍, I made 5 Sophie scarfs,and loved them all, but the first one, wrong colour. I gifted them all, and then I made myself the Sophie shawl, in the same dark brown,with special homespun yarn,and I love it, did not get much wear out of it, so I have some thing to look forward to in fall. I need to make some more, but summer sock camp camp starts today,so socks it is,for awhile.i have a Sari Nordlund small shawl,neck piece in my library,can’t remember the name., It’s Laulu. Take care, Melissa.

    Hi I'm a beginner level knitter even though I've knit for years and I'm confused by the Sophie scarf pattern. The yarn the pattern calls for is held double. Does that mean it's fingering weight? I'd like to use a DK weight yarn can I do this held single with the recommended needle size? Thanks.

      there's two sets of number provided for how wide you knit it. So, use the larger set of numbers. essentially they are knit exactly the same, just one is longer than the other.
