Someone once asked me why I need cameras around the house. I showed them footage of the people behind my house driving over a sprinkler head, sprinkler system installers at the house next door digging into my own sprinkler system and causing leaks, crackheads at my front door, a porch pirate, and a car driving 70 in a 30 that caused a wreck, and the camera picked it all up for the police.
I've been using home surv cams since the late 90s. People made comments like I was strange. My niece visited once and saw my monitor/dvr...I heard mumbling under her voice..."whack job". Now a lot of people have them. I was in a bad neighborhood. The niece, oh she's been removed from the inheritance 😉
yeah its funny, but I've already had local police in my house reviewing footage of two separate incidents that they thought I might have got on camera - one was a robbery of a neighbours property
I love the Reolink dual lens cameras. However, I wish we could individually aim the zoomed-in lens. The area you want a close-up on isn't always the center of the screen. 2nd is I wish you could set individual recording settings. As an example, my Trailmix zoomed-in lense is pointed to an area in my garden where there's no activity. So I only need to record that video during motion but I still want continuous recording on the main lense. This would tremendous save on space. I know it's all about me. Lol
@@evictioncarpentry2628 I have the trail mix and same thing it’s great when it follows motion but it would be nice if you could simply adjust the aim of the zoomed lens. Instead of having to add the expense of adding another camera. Thanks

For this video, you connected the camera to your PoE injector instead of to the NVR. I recently purchased 4 of these cameras only to find out that if you connect them directly to the Reolink NVR, you can't look at both lens views at the same time via the Client or the phone App. I confirmed this with Reolink. You can only see both views simultaneously if you connect them via a PoE switch. Did you experience that when connecting them to your NVR directly, after the review? Have also not found a way to actually playback the recordings from the telephoto lens using the phone app or the client when the camera is connected to the NVR instead of a PoE switch. Any input or suggestions you might have would be appreciated. Thanks and I really enjoy your in depth videos and comparisons!!
Great video as always! It will be great if the narrow zoom camera can record at 4K (3840x2160) instead. The image of the zoom camera with a lower resolution is only slightly sharper then the wide lens zoom in.
I think he had to do this to keep the zoom in image centered at the far distance testing, a downside of not being able to move around the zoom lens relative to the wide angle.

Doesn't seem LifeHackster has time to answer or maybe busy making the next video which I do appreciate. I had the same question since buying a bundle saves some money. Leaning towards a few of each since both have advantages in different areas.
I bought the camera and an NVR N7MB01 (with updated firmware) but I can only see the two videos, wide angle and telephoto, at the same time through the NVR. Neither the app or the web login allows me to see both views from a single camera at the same time. The camera is listed under the NVR itself in the Reolink app and I can only switch between wide-angle and telephoto (clear/fluent) modes. Do I need to purchase an injector for having this working as intended. Also FYI scanning the code from the back of the camera in the app does not recognize the camera "please make sure your device is powered on and connected to a stable network before retry."
I'm experiencing the same issue with this camera and Reolink NVR and Reolink said you can't view the wide and telephoto video at the same time via the Client or App unless you connect the cameras to a PoE switch instead of directly to the NVR, with is stupid if you ask me. Plus I haven't found any way to actually view playback video of the telephoto lens via the client or app; still waiting for a response from Reolink about the playback. If you can't do playback of both views from the app or client, I'm returning all 4 cameras...
It will only show up if you just select the camera on the screen. If you want it shown together with your other cameras, then click on the camera and on the menu that comes up, select the rectangular icon (change images) and select dual. This will replace one of your channels with the other view.
I'm not sold to RLC-81A over RLC-811A. RLC-811A IR night vision up to 100ft, RLC-81A up to 50ft RLC-811A 25fps, RLC81A 20fps RLC-81A has dual lens dual recordings, it takes twice as much HDD/SD space I see pretty small difference in quality between zoomed center part and wide angle camera. If they make narrower lens in 4k, that would be a real benefit.

LH, on a side question, can you tell us whether you're aware of problems with Eufy recordings recently? I've read they did a software update and really screwed up their timescale (yellow bars) and notifications. I'm now researching other manuf products and probably have to dump Eufy unless they fix the mess.
I still have all my recordings in the events... the "playback" option on my indoor cams which I just checked doesn't have any recordings but I still get the recordings on the events or in the events icon on the camera's thumbnail/snapshot.
@@LifeHackster yeah, the recordings of events still works, but there are often glitches with the notifications and counts. But the key problem people are upset about is the playback timescale previously had yellow bars that indicated key events in the timeline so the user did not have to look through all footage, but could focus on just the important motion triggers. That very useful feature has now disappeared for over a month now. Us users are hoping you could point this out, perhaps in a video and/or to Eufy. You have clout, we don't.
Yes. It uses 2 channels in your NVR is you do it. Meaning, if you choose the "dual" option on the NVR menu, then it will kick out another channel to show the 2nd view.

This might be an old question that you have covered but is there a way you can setup the Reolink cameras to show you a picture when detecting motion similar to the blink cameras?
Ring, Blink and others have a feature that shows a pic of the notification but this requires a monthly subscription to their cloud. Reolink cams can't do that currently except their wifi doorbell can with optional subscription. Reolink users have asked them to add pic notifications to more cams but I don't know when.

I have to check on if I can mount outside from the condo board but how well do these things work if mounted say right above the entrance on the inside of my unit? (Through the glass.) Just to get an idea for the strategy any help would be appreciated.
It will work through glass but the lights and IR LEDs for night vision at night will cause glare (reflection) that the footage will be unusable. You can turn OFF the spotlights and the IR LEDs but you need to have some type of lighting outside so that the camera will be able to see.
Does Reolink sell any set of security drones that can self charge in a dock while the other ones are surveilling the property.?Fully autonomous system. How do I set up the other lens as a separate channel on my nvr? I'd like to do it through the app instead of go to my nvr. I purposely put it in a hard to reach area.
The zoom camera is pointless because of the much lower resolution and framerate... it is no better than just zooming in on the 4K camera recordings later if you need to see middle. In fact it looks exacts the same as the 4k center crop in terms of resolution and field of view.

Reolink cams can't do that currently except their wifi doorbell can with optional subscription. Reolink users have asked them to add pic notifications to more cams but I don't know when.
Hi, thank you for your great videos, what about a comparison only of motion detections? Which one do you think is the best motio detection camera?
I will have a ground floor condo with a view facing a walking/biking path. Any suggestions on which model to get? I have to check on if I can mount outside from the condo board but how well do these things work if mounted say right above the entrance on the inside of my unit? (Through the glass.)
Just to get an idea for the strategy any help would be appreciated.
It will work through glass but the lights and IR LEDs for night vision at night will cause glare (reflection) that the footage will be unusable. You can turn OFF the spotlights and the IR LEDs but you need to have some type of lighting outside so that the camera will be able to see.
I love your vids. Another good one
Does Reolink sell any set of security drones that can self charge in a dock while the other ones are surveilling the property.?Fully autonomous system.
It would be good if those drones could flash a light in the unidentified person or vehicle and record all the steps of the person or car while they run off the property.
Thanks
How dose this compare to the cx810? It cx better?
I like this set up but I would need 8 of them, again is there a NVR that will connect the 8 cameras? I sure do appreciate if you would please help us out. I have 8 cameras on old DVR set up from Supercircuits and it needs to be replaced.I am needing something on all corners of our house along with my shop and like something that records 24/7 with auto tracking but hey I will try anything -lolol Thanks Kenny
Hi LifeHackster, l just want a update on the Reolink RLC-81MA you installed on your garage entrance two month ago, cause l’m planning to get one and l needed some feedback from you.
I'm still using it. No issues.
When will you cover the "All-in-One Wall Light" from eufy?
I have the 4k 5mp can I upgrade the camera to the new version
Will this be able to do 2 streams if use another brand of NVR such as Hikvision and others?
great review thnx, Question ?
Where can others purchase the Ceiling Mounting Plate / adapter shown at the end of this video?
Would you put this one over the gate entrace, or the duo, or the cx810 or 843 lol
Can this camera be wirelessly connected to wifi?
Impressive for the price!
I have an older reolink nvr setup that has 4mp and 5mp cameras. Will these 4k cameras work with it?
Why did you insert an SD card if you were using it on your NVR?
A lot of people think it's a good idea to have backup, more than one device recording. If the NVR breaks or is stolen you'll still have recordings on the SD card.
@@markd.songsandstuff7728 so it will dual record both the sd card and the nvr at the same time?
For backup..
@@mugg1841 Yes, it can record to both, but I think you may need a POE switch between the cam and NVR to have access to the card recording, I'm not sure exactly how it's set up.
@@LifeHackster Any idea on why I'm only getting a single viewing screen/video instead of the dual screen you're showing? I ordered this camera due to this video and the great options.
Night time video quality is poor and needs to be better, this is a drawback for me, can you please review the ezviz bc1c 30fps camera wireless. Thanks
You make the best videos
So this is the best reolink for the front driveway?
Do need a monitor for this system and what if you don’t have the router near the nvr can you plug it in the range extender
What is the minimum focus distance and the quality at the closest focus? I'm looking for an ip camera to put very close to a bee hive and need to see some details at the entrance.
I have a question for the nvr I know you need a monitor for the initial setup but after that is complete are you able to change the all the settings through the app or would you still need a monitor? Thanks
Great review, thank you
2:40 "Also a 12V power port if you're connecting this directly to your router." What does that mean ??
Ethernet IS low voltage. He probably just means if you’re connecting the camera directly to your router, as these are powered over Ethernet (PoE)
So is this better than the 811a? Minus the dual lense?
What is the camera made of? What I mean is it made of plastic or some metal alloy?
aluminum.
@@LifeHackster excellent 👌
@@LifeHacksterCurious, which Reolink NVR would you recommend for say 8 or 12 of these cameras. And you mentioned something near the end of this video. If you tried to see both views it would kick a camera out. What if you say had 16 channels would that solve the issue or are you better watching both views on your mobile phone?
Great video thanks 😊
How do I set up the other lens as a separate channel on my nvr? I'd like to do it through the app instead of go to my nvr. I purposely put it in a hard to reach area.
Thank you. 👍🏻
I'd like to know how they choose the names for these cameras lol
I know... they could have named it better.
do you really like this better than the 822?
Yes.
Great review! Are the mounting holes the same as the 811a?
No. The base of the 811 is a bit bigger. This one is the same as the 810.
Whey you need a switch?
why do you blur out the barcode? Is there something I should be concerned with?
No, you don’t have to worry about it..it is just a standard in my channel to block out any info in my videos.
What brand switch is that
What type of sd card you used for this cctv?
I just use regular San Disks.
@@LifeHackster thank you
Does it support RTSP? For both views?
yes, there is 4 streams, 2x 4K and 2x SD
From saudi 👍
I dont have dual screens with android
Hoping that Reolink will update their android app soon.
Nice
The zoom camera is pointless because of the much lower resolution and framerate... it is no better than just zooming in on the 4K camera recordings later if you need to see middle. In fact it looks exacts the same as the 4k center crop in terms of resolution and field of view.
No WiFi, Bummer 😢
The trackmix has a WIFI version.. it is a PTZ though but same dual lens setup.
That audio quality is bad. I'd pay more for better audio quality. This is an issue with other Reolink cameras I've owned so they must not devote resources to it.
Ring
Car cam
Soon...
Does anyone else agree that Reolink has way too many models?
it's a shame because the camera is poorly positioned, the spot is reflected by the underside of the roof
Actually, the more appropriate install on this is under the eaves which it will be placed closer to the eaves/underside of the roof.
@@LifeHackster Yes but the other cameras tests do not have the spot light which reflects on the roof. This causes a white curtain on the image in night.
