  • Today, we are going to compare Reolink's PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) IP PoE Security Cameras. We have the Reolink Trackmix with dual lenses VS the RLC-823A. Both these cameras have the same features like recording in 4K resolution, AI Person, Vehicle and Pet detection, has spotlights for color night vision and has Auto Tracking. Both of them have zoom function but different implementation and will talk more on this video. We will also compare the video quality and see which PTZ camera from Reolink would be a good option for your home.

    I've been doing a lot of research to figure out what kind of cameras will complement my property. We have some weird stuff going on like a detached garage in the back of the house in the driveway that goes along the side of the house so there are a lot of considerations for viewing angles, zoom, tracking, etc. Along the way I decided I am interested in a real link set up, but they have so many cameras. You have reviewed every single camera that I am considering and I appreciate the depth and breadth of your reviews.

    Another excellent review in which you put your educated finger on the main pros and cons of each camera. I don't own the TrackMix and never will if the night vision isn't improved somehow.. I do own the 823A and while it's a great image, the autofocus is a joke, sometimes taking 30 seconds. The left/right oscillations should be improved with the latest beta but tracking is still erratic, especially close to the camera. Neither camera is ready for prime time yet imho.

      @Dave W. Awesome, you're going to love it. Set up is easy, but customizing the settings to your environment was just a bit frustrating, a lot of trial and error. But got it dialed in now and it's pretty cool. The one thing I didn't like about the 823a is how loud it was compared to the Trackmix. Way more discreet, you barely hear the Trackmix as it rotates.

    Thanks for the detailed video. I was reviewing cameras just before I saw your video and one purchase review that talked about adding newer cameras (4k) to a (2K) recorder. Their main complaint was about functions that didn't work. Maybe that was due to using a 4k camera with a 2k NVR.
    What model NVR were you using? You may want to talk about NVR compatibility when talking about cameras and not full systems.

    I bought the 823A V2 a month or so ago, wish I had done more research, I live on a cul-de-sac and my goal was to have a camera that would track anything that gets in it's field of view but I didn't realize it doesn't do auto zoom and I just found out about the Trackmix via a Amazon Deal Alert, I feel like the zoom tracking is the best bet to get license plate numbers from shady cars in the neighborhood. The sad thing is the V2 has a great zoom capability (although rather slow to focus), I could manually zoom good enough to read the plate number off of a fire engine 450 feet away from my camera when they repainted the fire hydrants a few weeks ago. I'm tempted to get the Trackmix and move the 823A2 to the back yard.

    Of all the reolink cameras you've tested, which cameras have optical zoom auto tracking ?

    I already have a Reolink 4k 8 channel NVR setup with 4 more open channels. I’m specifically trying to get something POE on my mailbox to capture both day and night license plates in motion. I know they reflect IR and visual light. We have a light on top of the mailbox post, so I was thinking about mounting one on the bottom of the mailbox to see if there’s enough gap from the light to get a clear picture. What camera would you recommend for night time motion license plates at a short distance (5-30 feet).

    I would put the trackmix in a front yard because the zoomed in cameras is great at reading license plates.

    What NVR do is compatible with the Trackmix? I have the older Rln8-410-e and the two way talk and auto tracking isn't available. I tried on the Rln8-410 version 2, and the same. Any help please?

      Probably need to run it through a POE switch. You will still be able to record the video on the nvr. Had to do this for the doorbell cams. Hope it helps!

    I have Dahua cameras and they can optical zoom without delay. I think Reolink cameras are good quality, but they need to mature. Their apps (including windows) all need to be (re)designed for professional use. I'm having a hard time switching from Dahua to Reolink because of some of these differences, but I like Reolink enough to struggle through the change.

      The big change is it will be easier on your pocket… Reolink app is better too and you can change any settings on the camera just on the app.

    Well I just found a GIANT security flaw in the Reolink security cameras. I currently run Blue Iris but was looking to offload the power hungry nature of the server to a big box product. I purchased a RLC-36 with the intent of using it as a backup for person and motion alerts. I connected it tonight with the LAN port to my home network and one of the camera ports to my POE VLAN running my camera system. I put nothing in the setup and expected to be able to heedlessly configure it. I watched in horror as every single Reolink camera with newer firmware on my network get disabled and switching over to my UBNT logs I watched as it changed every single one of the camera's IP addresses. I get it that this is probably a feature if someone buys this but this is a major vulnerability. Now I can go to a business with reolink cameras, sneak up on one, and connect a device that sends a message to every camera disabling it? Again I never gave the think any data. All I did was change the password to the NVR and boom it took over all my cameras. I am sure if a $200 NVR can do this that there is a simple command to do this from any network connected item. I hope they fix this. If there is some camera autodiscover setting that can be turned off please let me know... this needs to be gone now.

    • @MrBigdjg

      Sounds like a valid concern but I don't allow any IP cameras to touch anything on my internal home network. Segment off via firewall.

    • @K0gashuk0
      @K0gashuk0 Рік тому

      @@MrBigdjg I dont either. I have a dedicated VLAN. But the thought that plugging a off the shelf NVR up to it will bypass all security protocols and take over my cameras is a problem.

    • @michaelrichards7223
      @michaelrichards7223 Рік тому

      I understood that the attacker would need to know the password in order to adopt the cameras. NAP would be great, but I don't think we could expect network security features for a low cost camera that is at-most targeted to small business.

    • @ImaITman
      @ImaITman 9 місяців тому

      As your friendly local network engineer, if you can plug into a businesses network and have the device not immediately get shut down then that network has vulnerabilities not the product itself. I do know that most home users won't have VLAN segmentation or whitelist only, so I think it's valid for a home owner to at least be aware of this.

    I don’t know why Reolink put out trackmix but it’s not ready it’s just not there 823A is better in zoom and night vision they didn’t need to make the trackmix smaller than 823A they should’ve kept the same size and put more features into it just make it better overall.

    ????? LH; If the cams issue a noise when tracking and adjusting, is that noise just loud enough to startle the trespasser's attention thus serve as a slight deterrent or is that noise too quiet for this extra benefit ???
