Great to see the Project FDL once again.
Years ago, when I just started 3D printing, there was a contest of creating the best blaster possible.
I designed one and thought it had to be one of the best blasters, but then the FDL was also sent in, and man, that blaster had everything you could imagine.
In the end, the FDL won the contest, and also out of darts (if you don't know him, go check him out) won prices. My blaster. well... I won a price, but it was nothing compared to these guys.
Thanks for the video Joe, It was a very nice one, once again.
Still kickin' :)
Awesome project Joe. I met the FDL couple at a ProtoPasta open house and they had some of their "toys". Great little company and thanks again for spending my money!
I love seeing the FDL get some love!
Great job Joe!! Oh.. Open source?? Someone needs to make an M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens!!
That's incredible Joe! Thanks!
Very cool ! Thanks Joe.
with Love from Canada.
Really EPIC! EXCELLENT JOB!
Good to see you back Joe and awesome build dude
great stylish little unit :) nice work!
Impressive project
Thanks for sharing :-)
Dude, I pulled out the laptop just to comment. That project looks so much fun. I actually hate open source projects that don't have a kit. Thank you for clarifying!
Where's the "kit"?
@@markryan3018 It can be found through the Project FDL website, where you can buy individual components, or all the pre assembled electronics together as the kit
Gorgeous !
Absolute cool Joe
Im so happy to find this channel, all your projects are awesome and the quality of your videos are top, I hope your channel continues growing up because you sir deserve it.
Kind regards from Spain and I can’t wait to see what next😊
Thank you very much for the kind words :)
Very good it looks official
You bloody big kid!! AWESOME!!! 😎
HAHA spot on! :)
Missed your content Joe. Great video and awesome project. I'll add it to my ever increasing number of projects. Currently printing a working stargate and DHD, then hopefully get back to my Saturn V project. Oh the Joy's of 3d printing. Think i might ask the misses for a other printer for xmas. I'm sure she'd love that lol
Great vid.
Awesome bro...💯💪😁
Don’t you love it when a plan comes together like that ☄️
I can't like the video more than once and that's sad.. This was a great video!
It was really cool. I have to make one
Love my FDL-3 great investment
Killer build, but your links are broken homie. Might wanna check out that description box.
Thanks for the heads up, fixed now :)
@@3DMakerNoob Anytime, enjoyed checking out your other content. :)
This sounds like a project that the "Drac Pack" would enjoy! :)
Mqn looks soo COOL
Ordered mine!
Thanks Daddy Joe. Bang bang bang 💝💝💝
Time to 3d print a 100 round magazine ! ;)
I'd make it 103 round magazine just because it's 3d printed. All about that customization lol
I thought for a second you had joined Cory Wilson's Defence Distributed 😏
FDL-3!
Cool project 3dmn. I was thinking of doing this with a translucent red for most of the parts and a matte black for rest. I saw they sold black or silver screws, but I was thinking that painting the heads gold somehow would look good with these two colors. And also a Blade Runner gun version would be cool.
This...is...f?%#$ AWESOME!!!
You should check out the caliburn for a companion blaster
That's a pretty comprehensive kit they sell. I wonder if they use jigs to help save time making the wiring. It is cool to see a video on that. Will take me some time to save up for one as I got other things first, sigh. But I still might print the gun since it looks cool :)
I do. I have a couple printed jigs for each board so I can solder large portions of them in one pass. I also have gadgets that I've made that pull exact lengths of wire and various other tasks. For me it's as much about innovation in the making of the thing as the thing itself.
I'm an active nerfer(that is a real thing BTW) and this thing is challenging (in power) to some of other 3d printed blasters like the talon claw and caliburn (which both can hit 200 feet per second)
And your short darts are called worker dart and the glue problem has been fixed
you should get the new worker gen 3 darts with better glue
You only need the orange tip for shipping in the US. Police do not care if the tip is orange if you are displaying it like it's a real firearm. There's a good read about it here applying to airsoft guns and the toy guns:
airsoftlounge.com/index.php/2018/12/03/does-an-airsoft-gun-have-to-have-an-orange-tip/#_ftnref3
Even after that being said, I'm not saying you should remove it. It'll still put people at ease at glance when they see bright colors. Just don't expect the law enforcement to care. To them a gun-look-a-like is still a gun regardless of the color. Be mindful and treat it as such.
- experience with 15 years of airsoft and realsteel(firearm) ownership. I also design and print unique 3d printed airsoft and kits.
Oh joy, another FDL3...does this guy reach out to 3d youtube channels right now, or just a coincidence? Feels like that. Btw this was the trigger to design my own blaster from scratch. Was a good Fusion exercise, and I learned a lot. Won't post the thingiverse link to it, not to get beaten by Joe for advertisment...
Hey Peter. We actually met a lot of makers at MRRF this year that were interested in building one. Glad to hear we helped inspire your own project! We can’t wait to see what you make!
I never beat people, it’s an open source project. This project came purely by chance as the proto pasta guys had one and I fell in love with it :)
@@3DMakerNoob Glad I can survive my comment made here ;)
@@peter.stimpel I believe a lot of 3D Printing people wanted their own after shooting the awesome ones that @ProjectFDL brought to MRRF this spring :-)
(Yes, i am building my own, Joe might have to watch out for a foam dart assault at the next event)
@@erikcederb makes sense. Let's call this the FDL virus then ;)
I liked the new format in the beginning, but I thought it went on a bit too long without you speaking. Cool blaster though!
Thanks for the tip, I always try mixing it up and see what people prefer :)
May want to double check with the organizer Joe. Rumor has it they dont want any 3d printed firearms at errf. Marylands pretty strict on gun laws it wouldnt surprise me if they were illegal there lol
This is not a firearm or a weapon so it’s all good :)
Since he is a vendor or exhibitor at Errf it’s ok. All fdl’s are approved for vendors, just not attendees 😁
@@jackiefdl4537 that makes complete sense lol
@@3DMakerNoob While I'd like to say people are able to recognize the difference, the truth is if people were then things like this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Boston_Mooninite_panic wouldn't have happened. I mean - sure at ERRF - once you're surrounded by 3D printing enthusiasts you'd be fine probably, but you have to think of security on the way there confusing what it is vs what it isn't (especially if you're flying in with it rather than shipping it ahead of time).
Hi Joe, i miss your videos.
You have Malta on the wall.
Yep, it’s my home
Will the FDL take out a squirrel!!!!
There was a guy that built an airsoft gun if I can remember
Every cool joe how it going over there by you
I'm interested in the lifespan of these since it's printed and has moving parts?
There are essentially no parts that move in terms of friction. Since I used PC and CoPa I’d say it’s gonna outlast me lol
@@3DMakerNoob Excellence as usual. Look forward to seeing you again soon!
Me, and my friends have used these extensively in Nerf Events, THEY LAST!!!
Only printing one piece at a time, using rafts, and all of that glue makes me skeptical about the bed leveling.
didn't use a raft except once on the zmorph, rest used a brim. and the glue wouldn't affect the bed leveling
Great video - do you have the open source link for the stl files?
Its on their website
3DMN thank you
Could you make a sniper water gun
HAHHAHAHA I WILL BLAST MY BROTHER WITH THIS
If i cant buy it, can you release the step files or at least stls so i can make one?
Fdl-3 has gone open source, when did that happen?
can you share the logo "plate" for making custom logo?
Or where do I find the step files?
Nice ! You need a bigger magazine, way more shots need to be fired from this thing !!!!
You can get a 40 round double stack magwell for this thing.
Joe, is there any reason that this couldn't be printed with PLA?
Not that I know of, as far as I know FDL prints these in PLA for their customers
@@3DMakerNoob Thanks!
You are taking this to earth? Where do you live then
Errf.....
@@3DMakerNoob It's a joke mate 😅✌
My wife would hate me! I think i have to build one.
Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission ;)
Try building a CALIBURN. 300FPS Springer By Captain Slug way better then flywheel blasters.
I’d still get an FDL-3 because brushless with a computer inside it is really cool. Though I must admit this thing only gets 180 FPS compared to the caliburn’s 300 FPS.
@@air_ respect
280$ just for the stl files... Material and electronics not included. Ouch!
Stl files are free to download on github....
The price you listed is for all of the electronics to go into the blaster pre made. You can source all of the electronics from the bom in the GitHub repository as well.
Would you be able to sell to me?
This is published under CC-NC license, so it is not FULLY OPEN SOURCE. As Tom said lately "this project is not for me..."
Does that mean you won’t buy a car cause it’s not fully open source? :)
@@3DMakerNoob I did buy a car and it was not open source, and I will sell it. I might even make some profit on it. I would not build one knowing I won't be able to sell it after I will get bored with it.
There is a big difference between selling something second hand and manufacturing something specifically to sell. It’s a non commercial license, so simply don’t print with the intent to sell and make a profit off someone else’s work
@@3DMakerNoob I think GiantRock knows that - he's just picking on Tom a bit using sarcasm. (Or he's being serious - I mean, it can be hard to tell over the internet without seeing his face, I thought Tom was joking at first too)
@@3DMakerNoob I think it only depends who holds the license, and if they will act on it(apparently some are). Since Toms video I actually started looking at it, and decided to stay away from not fully open source projects.
shame on you for polluting that beach
So basically it’s a nerf Bolter.
I use a knife to save ammo.😁
Hi Joe
Thanks for the video.
But I have another problem, which is Patreon. Seems like they don't accept my cards anymore.
Just pointing it out to you and maybe other people might have a similar problem and can comment.
My cards have funds. Are up to date and have two stage verification. I can still use my cards with other online purchases.
But since this month, my Patreon subs are declined. Patreon is not very helpful on this.
Apologies for the public post.
There was a change - if you are resident of the EU. They sent out an email explaining it, a few days ago. ->> "
Hi! We wanted to give you a heads up about an upcoming change.
A new EU law is going into effect this month that will require Patreon to add an extra security step for EU patrons. This is to reduce fraud for card holders, and all companies with EU customers are required to comply.
As a result, if you add a new credit or debit card, or pledge to a new creator, you may see a pop-up from your bank that requests a username and password, a code sent to email or text, or any other authentication method supported by your bank. If you have any questions or issues with one of these popups, it’s best to contact your bank directly, as Patreon does not control the form.
To learn more, check out this article in our help center.
Your friends at Patreon
"
@@peter.stimpel I've heard about the new EU law. Problem is I stay in South Africa. And Im not even asked to do the extra security verification. Just declined. I'll try again to reachout to Patreon. Thanks.
Thanks buddy, i might end up creating a youtube membership for those who do not with to go through patreon. either way, no need to apologize :)
Let this be the subject of the next Democrat Presidential Candidate debate, PLEASE! LOL
Just say no to guns!!!
No to Guns! Yes to blasters! :)
Very Cool project, $280 lmfao. for a nerf gun. and thats not for all the parts even, I bet over $500 complete.
For what you’re getting I’d say it’s pretty worth it if you have a 3D printer already.
