  • Trinidad's food culture is truly amazing! There are soooo many local dishes to share with you! Today's dish is smoked herring and tomato, an absolute favorite of my mine! It's a combination of smoked herring and tomatoes with onions, garlic, pepper!
    It usually enjoyed with bake, bread or rice and dhal! How do you make this dish? Leave me a comment! I'd love to hear!

    Good recipe. I add 1 lime cut into slices the smoked herring while it is boiling. I add the tomatoes after sauteing the onion-garlic so it could get soft, then I add in the flaked smoked herring.

    Looks good. Small tip garlic has a higher sugar content so burns faster than onions. Cook the onions first to get it almost see through then add the garlic.

      @@davidm113 Garlic has a high amount of oligosaccharides. It is a carbohydrate that is made up of a chain of simple sugars. It can be found in many fruits and vegetables and is in onions and garlic.

    10 Minutes to boil out the salt sound short, do you soak the herring prior to boiling?

    • @JennaGTheHijabiTT
      @JennaGTheHijabiTT  5 років тому +1

      Omar Atk no soaking before... these days the smoked herring and Saltfish I get don’t require much boiling time at all... I remember back in the day it took a whileeeee to boil... now sometimes it’s ready in 5 mins

    pepper, garlic, and smoke Herrin
    In a dry pot. You need a little oil,
    especially olive oil for this particular dish. ( Also use some
    Ajax and dish washing soap to
    clean the inside of your pot).
