My moms uncle has ridden and completed that race for the past 6 years or so. He is the one who got me into cycling. He gave me a Maratona cycling vest that I use on colder days. I have seen the race many times and can say that training is the hardest part about it. My moms uncle rides every day 100km or so up and down the mountain (Mont. Terminillo, RI) he lives near. Maratona is life
Lloydy must be revisiting these Maratona videos in preparation for this July, especially after all those mineral waters last month... But oh boy! how can you watch this and not acknowledge how FIT he looks here!!
Another great GCN video. As an experiment how about setting up a training plan for a more normal sized, older, newish to cycling rider to show that your plans will work in preparing someone for an event like the Maratona. I'm happy to volunteer myself as a guinea pig for the experiment (as long as all tasks are humane and don't involve too many trips to the pain cave!) follow your plan and report back with results.
Really good video, when I started rowing I made the mistake of HTFU macho training and trained myself into the ground eventually getting ill. It takes discipline to lower the intensity but I'm finally seeing some gains now. People need to understand the difference between racing and training!!!
Hey GCN, I love your tranng videos for events like this ne and the Etape. Any chance you could do one for a multi-stage event - like the Haute Route for example, which I have just entered. There seem to be more too them around now - tour of Wessex, tour of the Highlands for example. Thanks
hey guys,if youre out of ideas i think you could make some viedos on track bikes, like how a velodrome sprint race works/how to trackstand, that might save you a few weeks of videos since you guys make em everyday. Also you could add some night riding videos and tips too :) cheers
Are you sure Dan isn't a robot? He looked liked he was just riding some recovery ride, while passing others (like a boss) who seemed to be doing the hardest ride of their life...
Hey GCN guys, speaking of climbs, how hard do you think this climb is: you'll climb 3 000 feet over about 10 miles with an average grade of 7 %, but with long sections of 13% and 10%on cobbles. I'm planning on doing this climb, which will result in a century ride...considering I've never done anything like it I just wanna how hard it actually is. My bike is a professional MTB 29er.
Hey Dan, in the next Gcn news show please give up some time to review your new baby the Dogma f8 (gorgeous machine!!), how it rides, the pros and the cons. And while you are at it why not making a video only to review all your bikes especially for dogma f8, factor vis vires, cervelo s3? etcc....
If chuck Norris was a cyclist he would change his name to Dan Lloyd. This looks like a good bike ride.I only do about 3 hours or so a day and usually a longer saturdAY run, so will certainly need more training first.maybe next year.

One of the best videos I've ever seen about training for big events! Great job GCN!

This was top quality and a refreshing change. Great job!

"Form is a combination of fitness and freshness" - I like this.
I went for a ride in the rain yesterday--it was probably my best ride in 2014.
Very good, production is so sharp on this video. Thanks
Maybe a video about winter training since winter is close by: tips and some new indoor training sessions?
Just entered the pre registration!! fingers crossed I get a spot!!
What a beautiful place to ride

clever dick
'avoid bad weather days' yup, that's a great tip for sussex based rider :-)
Wondering what Dan's impressions of the F8 were. Be interesting to watch/read.
Can you do a bike building basics video? Showing how to build your own bike from scratch. Thanks
Love the Dolomites! When were you there Dan?

And who wouldnt listen to Dans expert views as he is THE exemplary Pro !
I find it hard to rest, almost every time I choose to take a day off the bike I find myself on it some time later in the day...
Just wondering if u could give any tips to a young cyclist like myself to get the furthest I can in cycling
Cheers

Is that Dans dogma??? How do you like the new dogma? What a sweet ride!
Is that a dogma k Dan? What's your review of it?

Well we don't really do reviews, and a lot of Dan's bikes are only his for a short while - like this Pinarello :-)
Global Cycling Network Looks like it's time to hire me to do your reviewing segments.
Am glad that u choose SAMSUNG!!!

Did Dan actually complete the Maratona? Or did he just ride sections with the group? I'd love to know his time or placing.
Dan did ride it, and came 33rd in his category :-)
Dogma F8 now?? Next presenter's bike??
What is Dan doing with a Dogma? :o
Name of song please ?!
I almost saw all your videos but I don't even own a road cycle... ;P
