Thank you once again for the information you and Laurel share with us. I have used your teachings and all five of my hives are super strong and I will be adding boxes in the next week to keep them in the box. This is my first spring as I began with swarms last year in April through July. I have spoken to several beekeepers here in central PA and your teachings have me several weeks ahead of most. You and Laurel are Awesome, be safe, and God bless you and your family.
Starting my fourth year beekeeping in the middle of Washington State. Managed to get all three colonies through the winter thus far. Looking forward to attempting a split this spring. Thank you for the book suggestions.
Thanks Kamon and Laurel. I read a lot of articles and watched thousands of hours of UA-cam videos and haven’t read any books but I will now. I bought the book by Walter Kelley for my father in law but had it shipped to him. I will borrow and read it. I’ve been wanting to read The Honeybee Democracy because you and Fredrick Dunn speaks so highly of it, I will be signing up for it today. Thanks for all you do to share your knowledge of beekeeping with folks like me and thanks Laurel for getting Kamon into this UA-cam world!
I have been keeping bees since 1988, and am still genuinely "obsessed" with bees and beekeeping. I spend a great deal of time reading about beekeeping ( The Hive and The Honey Bee is a great resource), and watching UA-cam videos. I also signed up for Audible through your channel and am currently listening to "The Honey Bee Democracy". Wonderful book! After countless hours of research, I am absolutely convinced that you and Laurel produce the best videos in regards to quality and content. I get excited when I get that long awaited notification that you have posted. I am wringing my hands waiting for you to begin posting queen rearing videos again. Please keep up the great work.
Thanks for the great book suggestions. Love your channel and it was great to see your beautiful Laurel in the live video! You guys make us chuckle, your so cute!
Your videos for me, are like books are to you! Allways filled with sincer wish to give us knowledge! You are such a great husband and father! All that love and understanding! Filled with humor! It is great to see that a man is humble enough to show how much his family means to him! Keep sending all that knowledge and keep up the good work you do! And plz, stay beeing you! 'Cos there is only you who are you. Send my love to Laurel too! Tons of loads of love from Sweden!
Kamon,I enjoy your videos. You have very helpful information. I personally like the longer videos! Keep em coming and good luck with your bees this year!!
I too enjoy reading. I don't have the time to devote to I that I would like. I got to meet Dr. Conner at this year's KY Queen Bee Breeder Conference. I bought a couple more of his books and got them autographed. 8 hours of him talking bees. WOW, what a learning experience! He has forgotten more about bees than I know. Anyways, keep the videos coming. We look forward to them here in East KY!.
one of my favorite bee books is The Beekeepers Lament. It's also a great listen from Audible. Thomas Seeley's The Honeybee Democracy is amazing, so much information.
As a first year bee keeper I really appreciate your channel, I have learned so much from your videos. I am currently reading Honey Bee Democracy and it is blowing me away.
Hey Kamon, thanks for the reference materials list. One of the best books that I ever obtained was "Beekeeping Tips and Topics" by Elbert R. Jaycox. It is a compilation of the best articles and How Too's from "Bees & Honey Magazine 1975-1981"
Hey Kamon, I love your videos, they always seem to have a lot of information. I was a beekeeper down in Southwest Florida and recently moved to Virginia. It's like learning all over again. so I plan on reading the books that you have suggested. Thank you, and I sure could use a smoker like that. Thanks for the opportunity.
Great video concerning learning about bees. Another good book for “new bees” is Beekeeping for Dummies. I greatly enjoy your video’s as you break down the information in a way that new beekeepers can easily understand. Keep the video’s coming!
As a first year beekeeper, one book that really helped me a lot is “At the Hive Entrance” by H. Storch. I really appreciate videos like this because I am an information sponge. Thanks for all you do to help others improve their beekeeping.
Reading Beekeeping for dummies ...and have audibles I've been checking stuff out for bees. But ones that I enjoy will be putting in my library at home so can reference when needed. Enjoy your videos thank you
Thanks for the books list. I read Thomas Seeley's book, 'Honeybee Democracy' and laughed over and over as he wrote about how they marked so many bees and spent so much time figuring out what bees do. It is a great book.
I can't believe Laurel fell for that hive tool and ABJ sub. You are just a real romantic. I like the Growing Essentials as well. I feel the Beekeeping for Dummies is a really good book for beginners.
Hi Kamon and Laurel. First timer here. Over this winter finally found a good youtube teacher, his name is Chris, haha just kidding its you guys. Youve been a great addition to my other information. Third year beekeper as weve added this to our other other means of income on our farm and finding this to be THE thing we love and our passionate about the most. All 11 colonies survived our ohio winter and looking at turning this to about 30 this season. We feel this will be perfect for continuing our other practices and raising our 2 youngens. Thabks again for all your help and insight. Always look forward to your vids. 👍
Kamon, my 7yr old son loves your videos, he actually asks me can we watch Kamon Reynold. Wears a cap thinking he is you, lol. Think you he has become your biggest fan.
Afternoon Kamon. I'm in my 4th year keeping bees and I find I am constantly looking for accurate and reliable information on this fascinating art and craft. You have become my most watched videographer. I love that you are able to deliver good, usable information with few bouts of rambling on about side issues. As for good books on the subject, I won't presume to have read enough to give you advice on the matter but I believe Michael Palmer lists several good ones in his SUSTAINABLE AVIARY videos. Good luck and I hope you have an abundant year.
Thank you, Kamon! I am a new beekeeper, but with swarm season on the way, I need to come up to speed quickly. The number of books are overwhelming out there and need to optimize my time with the best information I can obtain. I will be purchasing the books you suggest and reading them at night. Thanks again.
Hello, from Washington State!! Those sound like some great books! I am new to beekeeping this year and all the informationI have gathered from you and my mentor I can't wait to get my bees. From everything you have said and others those Dadant smokers are awesome. Thanks for the opportunity at a chance at winning!
As a new beekeeper ready to get into my second year I will definitely will be checking some of these recommendations out. Thanks for all the good content over the last year! It has been very helpful and I think a big reason I was successful in keeping my bees alive through my first winter as a beekeeper in MN!
As a seasoned beekeeper myself I watch your videos for a few reasons. When I started, UA-cam did not exist and the internet was new. That is as bad as it sounds. There is a lot of info now available to new beekeepers but sadly much is not good. When I came to your videos I could tell you were passing on good sound advise because well it is what I would say also. I support you efforts here for speaking based off of personal experience. If you do not know, you say so. When info is shared you take into account and let the viewers know it may be different for their region. I appreciate that you do not forget that you have day one beekeepers watching. Had this been around I can see me doing what you are now doing. Keep passing on the truth!
I do enjoy your videos. The very first beekeeping book I ever bought was How to keep bees and sell honey by Walter T. Kelly I paid75 cents for it. Yea I have been keeping bees that long 61 years come May 2020. I am going to get my own subscription to Audible as soon as my speakers come in.
Well, mine is like a nose... First year Keeper, got my first Nuc last April, split late (too late) in the Fall, but was able to overwinter 2 hive here in south Louisiana. Think I have watched almost all your videos (my wife has gotten into it too!! Although I have not yet gone as far as gifting her a hive tool or ABJ). THANKS for all the great lessons (the good and the bad). Keep up the good work!!--We'll keep watching!!...Here's to hoping you get to go FULL TIME!
Thanks so much Kamon, for sharing your experience and knowledge. This will be my first year keeping bees. I'm thankful to have your instructions and opinions. I feel confident about this coming year and my success, thanks in great part to you!
👍Another awesome video Mr. Reynolds. I'm not sure if you know it but I believe that you and Laurel are changing beekeeping and beekeepers for the better with all of your videos, experiments and sharing of your knowledge. Thanks for all y'all do!
Looking to get into some heavy reading this year. Given that I'm only eight months into beekeeping, I'm proud to boast that my girls are two for two for overwintering. But, eight months still means I have a TON left to learn. Thank you for sharing knowledge with the world!
Kamon!!! Great video! Just got off the cruise ship and heard about the tornados that went through Tennessee. Rich said it took his roof off. I hope you and the fam are safe and well. And the bees too!!! Take care friend! 😃
Hello! I just found your videos today and am enjoying them. I had to peek behind my fingers though when that swarm got you! I;m going into my third year of beekeeping and was able to over winter both of my hives this year. I'm in Wisconsin so I'm feeding dry sugar and pollen patties. Thanks for the information on the books!
This will be my 1st year keeping bees, your videos have been very helpful in my bee education, thank you. My favorite book, thus far, is 'The Bee Book' by DK publishing, I found it to be very informative and enjoyable.
I haven’t done much reading, the audible ones are more my style. 👍 UA-cam, talking to my bee buddies and the “hands on” of getting in the hives is how I’ve learned so far. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!
Kamen, thanks for the video. I have listened to both of Dr. Seeley's books. My favorite book is Honey bee democracy. My favorite nuts and bolts book is The Beekeepers Handbook by Diana Sammataro and Alphonse Avitabile. I too am always looking for new books to read. Thanks again for the videos.
Kamon and Laurel: Thank you so very much for helping all of us newbees! You are an excellent speaker who gets right to the point! what I wanted to share a few videos back is queen excluders. The plastic type have very sharp flat edge bars (you can easily feel this), which most certainly can harm bees in transit from lower-upper boxes. The metal type excluder has round bars that do not scrape the bees. Keep up the great work! You and Laurel are invaluable!
I was given an old box of wax foundation and in it was “how to keep bees and sell honey” and “beekeeping the gentle craft” both original copies...good stuff...thx for the info
Love your videos and no nonsense approach to your "lessons" , although I am in a colder climate in Canada, so much of your advice is applicable. Thanks for sharing with the bee keeping community.
Getting my first two hives i n about a month. My father in law has been a beekeeper for 25 plus years. He is supplying me with everything except a really nice smoker.
My first bee book was from a family friend Earl Glasgow, who was a state bee inspector in Memphis, TN in 1971. It was “First Lessons in Bee Keeping” a Dadant hardback book. Still cherish it. I was 15 years old. 😀
Great book picks Kamon, I've got them all and have read them. I love reading. It's sad so many people hate to read, it is great for the mind! Humans have been handling honey bees for 8-9000 years! We're still learning, I think maybe in another 8-9000 years we may have it mastered, lol! I took some honey off yesterday, needed some fresh honey for the kitchen. My production hives are still covered up in honey where I didn't pull it off last fall. 68F here yesterday!

I ordered Increase Essentials after you mentioned it before. It is a great book, and very helpful! Thank you for all your great videos. This is my third year and your videos have helped me start to understand the bees better. Thanks so much Kamon and Laurel!
Living life vicariously. I've still got a foot of snow in the yard. Cleansing flights have taken place, but they're short. Up side is, it looks like all hives have survived. 0 f here today. Waiting for a 50 day to check feed, but they're looking good. Thanks for the videos.
Yup those bee magazines and hive tool did the trick! She sure is a keeper yup beekeeper and family keeper! Thanks for all the great info and details you provide us new comers!
Kaymon, thanks for the video. I am starting my third year, went from three to nine hives last year. Hope to make it to 20 this year, keep the videos coming and I am going to purchase some of these books. You can never learn too much!

Hey great stuff I've not heard of most of those books. It will be fun to check them out.
I was given an old box of wax foundation and in it was “how to keep bees and sell honey” and “beekeeping the gentle craft” both original copies...good stuff...thx for the info
Thanks for all you share with us.

Getting my first two hives i n about a month. My father in law has been a beekeeper for 25 plus years. He is supplying me with everything except a really nice smoker.

Reading in my opinion is the foundation that all advanced education stems from.
Absolutely, agree, Kamon!
