Short sales is not the problem it's the naked short sales and them putting out fake numbers is the problem
No short selling is a problem. It’s not transparent, what regulations do exist aren’t enforced, it’s an affront to the laws of supply and demand, and it’s actually destructive rather than productive. The Dutch started it in the 1600’s may have had good intentions in an otherwise deflationary closed system, but now it’s just a clever way for rich modern assholes to make money destroying companies with impunity. There’s nothing else that you can buy or sell on this planet that behaves like this. Don’t like Honda? Don’t buy a Honda. Don’t like Three Musketeers? Don’t buy them. And if people don’t buy them, demand will decrease and they’ll go out of business. And the age old argument “sToCkS cAnT jUsT gO uP fOrEvEr” is ridiculous in this modern system. Fractional shares are a thing now. BRKA seems to be doing just fine at $600k.
Don't forget dark pool abuse. And excessive trading halts.
Eliminate short selling and you get rid of naked shorts, synthetic shares etc. Short selling does facilitate true price discovery. It’s a bullshit way that hedge funds and private equity destroy legit companies and destroy millions of jobs.

Metrics mean didlyscoop. We are looking at millions of CounterfeitStocks that generate Fail to Delivers and then those miraculously disappear from the record. Ken Griffin has said that his company sets the price of stocks at the level they think they should be. Short Selling OK - but Counterfeit Short Selling is Criminal to the highest degree, imho.
