- Inspired by Mockrock's video on the best move of each type which you can find here: ( • The Best of EVERY Smas... ) I wanted to make my own version in tandem with my editor Cody to offer our own opinions on what we think the best moves are in Smash. I've been binging the "why no one plays" and "why everyone plays" videos! Thanks for the great in depth content!
Steve should've made into the D-air category. It doesn't spike, but it's so good at killing. While being afraid of being stuck airborne, Steve players can use Anvil to descend down. Furthermore, Steve's disadvantage is improved since you can stall after a specific amount of time.
Anvil's also great at whiff punishing and edgeguarding as well.
I only want to mention 1 move for each category that i think should have been mentioned:
Jab: Jigglypuff for combos and safety
F tilt: Terry for safety, speed and invincibility
Up tilt: Bayo for combos
Down tilt: Bayo for combos (main bias)
Nair: K rool for disadvantage, edgeguards and combos (armor essentially)
Fair: Sephiroth/Belmonts for recovery, spacing, kill and safety
Bair: Meta Knight for kill, combo finisher, tech chase starter and drag downs
Down air: Falco cause IS SO SICK
Up air: Incineroar because HE CAN LADDER with it and kill
Dash attack: Ganon it's the best BY FAR imo, it does everything, even combos
Neutral B: Piranha plant
Side B: Incineroar
Up B: Kazuya becuase it kills for no reason and has a dumb hitbox
Down B: Meta Knight because it's a free "respect me" option, similar to ZSS but no quite as good

Also, Kaz Up B is the only FGC fighter Up B that snaps ledge

Down Smash: Sephiroth - long range (especially with the tipper shockwave), hits far off the ledge, and shield breaks.

bro squirtle's ftilt is broken. safe, quick, disjoint, decent range, combo starter, tech chase at high pourcents... for me it's top 3 by a lot
Not sure if I missed it but was there a point in this discussion where it flipped from “moves in isolation” (i.e. best move in terms of application to literally any char) to “moves planted on a broken ass amalgamation of all the fucked moves” cuz I feel like the start of this video had VERY different metrics to the end lol
not to imply its a lesser discussion by any stretch, was just enjoying some of the passing problem solving where you've got a cooked move that just wouldn't do much on certain character archetypes, or would even potentially undo something else on their kit that better synergises with it than whatever the S tier move was

Wouldn’t need to go in super detail, just felt like the conversation got less interesting to me as they pivoted to “what if Roy had monado, g&w up B, and an m1911” type discourse
didn't you say that Guardian Orbitars (Pit's Down B) are insane in the top 5 most underrated character videos? or is pit's down B isnt as good as the ones on the list?

Sora Nair is like top 3. Steve forward smash and side b are also really good.
I think Mewtwo was worth picking over Chrom for the 5th best jab for the amount of damage they are able to deal with it.
Puff jab is extremely safe combos and can do jair so that should of been top 5

I honestly think Kirby's normals are broken. Up tilt and down tilt are obvious, but also Up smash is intangible, crazy strong, and hits on platforms, forward smash has weirdly high range for such a powerful move, fair does 15%, combos, and kills, and is super safe, and Nair and Up air are powerful safe combo and kill tools too. And then Dash attack is strong as hell and weirdly safe. All around fantastic A moves.
Bair is also crazy it's an out of shield that kills early
I wish Kirby had a sword or the weapon of the opponent when he inhales a character. He already has trouble getting in to fight.
I feel like they forgor about pac man aerials.

Feel like belmont down tilt could have made the list. Move is a great get out of the corner move and could set up for edge guards with characters with a better off stage game.
Yo how was Steve not even mentioned for best Side-B? It kills, burst option, command grab, and a recovery mixup. You do use materials but it like what if inkling roller hit through shield and they're on the opposite side of the map.
Maybe they didn't want to mention it because it uses materials. Without that limitation, which is the case for other characters, it would be absolutely crazy.

I think Pac-man's dash attack and F-smash should have at least been mentioned.
Also, I've been wondering. Which move is better, Charge shot or Shadow ball?
i'd argue charge shot is better just because it's faster and does more damage fully charged. charge shot also comes out a few frames faster. just my point of view though
His dash attack is pretty fake. It’s only safe on the final hit (the others are around -14, meaning you can OOS between hits) and is very unsafe on whiff and slows you down, making it a mediocre burst movement option especially due to the subpar range and lackluster reward if you DI out. It's only good because of the lack of endlag but is a lackluster dash attack otherwise, so it's just mediocre. Fsmash is really good though and should’ve been mentioned though I wouldn’t say it’s top 5 (just because of Mario's and Sonic's and other better Fsmashes, though imo Pac's is the most balanced in terms of overall strength), and Bonus Fruit should’ve been in the top 5, especially because of Galaxian, the most underrated Fruit by non Pacs aside from Key.

F-smash: there are 3(4) frame 10 F-smashes in the game (Marcina, Pits, Samus, Steve (Gold)) For raw wiff punish smash F-smash I say pound for pound Pit is the best, Marcina starts above them and is weaker (ignoring tipper) and Samus has a sourspot, Steve has a resource I guess.
Nair: Brawler should be in the top 3 tier. No argument because it going up a spot or two does not matter. But I value the combo and tech chase parts of the move more than Link being big at the cost of 4 frames (not that link is not top 5).
Dair: Pit has the best combo Dair in the game and would actually have better air to air combos on a character that does not pay the multi jump tax, because as is he sends most characters to high to combo into his frame 10 aerials bar Up-air with a specific hitbox. So give it to a character with a better second jump or an aerial faster than frame 10 and see some more results. It is a -8 disjoint that starts combos from 0-death% (including kill confirms) grounded and from 20%-70% when airborne (sourhit against Mario weight). Can be used to camp as the disjoint is relatively big as to beat any non sword move and trade with sword moves, though this use is hampered when not on a multi jump or super mobile character. Also it spikes I guess it is a weak spike but it is enough to kill most of the cast around 50% be it through a gimp or actually killing them.
No Pit Bias here, the F-smash comment is only in the context of wiff punish and nothing else (overall the move would not even be top 10). And people just overlook Dair. Comparing to the top 5, I say it is overall better than Pyra as I value the combo trees more than the added kill power, G&W negating disadvantage is hard to compare to but putting it in that lens I can't honestly put Pit above that. Snake is just an OOS option when not in a trappers kit as if they are not inside of you it is easy to get out the last hit, if they are inside of you then it is a 50/50 is they hard commit to an SDI direction. As for Megaman it just has to much lag it is tied for the slowest aerial in the game with Snake Fair if I recall correctly has total frames over a second long and 29 frames of endlag, +2 on shield is not enough to compensate for those numbers.
Other than the points in the comment I don't see much disagreement from my point of view. I guess Pyra Fair but Bowser. And apply that logic to most trains of thought, Ike up-air just do Corrin same thing but faster.
Best Neutral B is honestly debatable. Kirby has the most versatile due to the ability to use all of the others although it is heavily matchup dependent. Steve has a very broken block mechanic. Although it is primarily due to the physics behind Steve. Shulk's Monado Arts would benefit any character greatly. However it would drastically raise the difficulty ceiling for every character. If MALLC and Dial Storage is universal then it would make using characters that are already complex nearly impossible to use. These I consider to be the big three.

Bowser or Incineroar have gotta be in the convo for their side b, those command grabs kill you for shielding so easily
I think Rosa's upsmash deserved a mention. Really quick and pretty decent kill power.
About Mythras down B : You can switch to Mythra but she has her normal move set. So you can only switch ones, because Mythra would switch to Pyra. I think that would be funny af.

Kinda suprised to see a lack of Meta Knight but makes sense since he is Mid Tier Knight. Dimensional Cape and Fsmash are genuinly busted though, especially the cape

You mentioned pyra's turn into mythra being the best, or a transformation into another theoretical broken custom character. That might be picking the obvious cheater option, but what if we just went further and used trainer's transformation between three different broken characters

Greninja dtilt is better than Y. Link. Frame 5, -12 on shield, fairly safe if spaced. If Gren can combo his 16 frame fair into it at around 90% other characters could do some mean shit with it.

Mewtwo down B def should've made the cut. Super strong, low commitment, has intangibility, can be forced with techs, and can be combo'd into.

Bowser jab should b around #9. Combos into grab, sets into tech chases/jab locks w no techs, and kills

Strong disagree about Kazuya not being top 3 for jabs. It is a deceptively good mix up tool when you go for jab 1 into electric, his 3 hit finisher, forcing someone off ledge if you start the combo near it, making a lesser skilled player panic and/or catching someone sleeping and doing 40%~ for free. Sometimes certain characters can be stun locked with properly timed jab 1s at the right percentages. Its really disruptive as a mix-up tool when used properly and really discourages rushdowns from getting in your face.

KO Punch is not Little Mac's Neutral B, it's his Fighter Ability
