How to make a muletape halter (8 stand)

  • Here is a shorter video of how to make the 8 strand version. The nose band is an 8 strand flat braid (I show how to make the 6 strand in the first video, it's the same pattern with one more strand on each side, for quicker reference you can look up a tutorial on just that braid if you need, UA-cam has several!) The measurements vary based on your horse. But the general measurement I used are pictured at the end along with some other tack I've made. Future how to videos for other tack will be made. For the pole strap I make an 8 strand herringbone, you can look that one up too on here! They're easy. Good luck! I hope this helps!

    A video with the braids being shown would be more beneficial to people wanting to learn to make these halters

      If you want to learn with better instructions youll have to pay or try and to understand what shes explaining... Try Braids by Brette academy.

      Sami thank you 🙏 it’s a free video that no one else has made and everyone has wanted for years- I’ve had 6 year old make halters based off this video - no it’s not going to work for everyone but I literally start the video with the main braid used and I name the other 2 used and you can do what I did and watch videos of other people who have the set ups to teach all sorts of braids and use any braid you want.
      4 strand round braid for the entire halter except the pole which is
      8 strand herringbone and the nose band that is 8 strand flat braid. And the gullet under the throat which is 2- 4 strand round braids just braided the second one into the first one -As I say in the video- you can look up any of the individual braids though and learn them easily by 1/1500 other braid video makers who have good visual aids!
      This is a free concept of how to make one the more you braid in general the easier it gets to figure stuff out and fix or alter it

      Quinn- any width you want - these were 1500 lb strands but I use 1000 and 2500 too depends on what I find I don’t order it online i get it from friends

      Yes sorry! it was damn near impossible for me to film while connecting the loops and weaving them through each other as it requires both of my hands be ON the project and a LOT of focus so I couldn’t film too but I have an overhead camera stand so I will soon have a better version where I show the pulling through of the connection spots as well as more measurements for different size rigs!

    First off, thank you for this! I braid alot but this is my first harness without hardware. Second the 4 stand round braids that you are showing are actually the same. So when you do that, braid it the way you understand the easiest. The difference is in how you start. For the "square looking" one you star with one color in the right hand and one color in the left. For the twist look you put one of each color in each hand 💞

    • @MaidenOfTheArts
      @MaidenOfTheArts  3 роки тому

      Yes spot on with the braid!! It does change looks depending on where the colors sit and cross and it becomes a square braid at the pole band (herringbone braid) which is a different pattern than an 8 round or doubled up 4 round which I do all 3 of depending on colors used or preferred braid by client! Thank you for explaining that better than I did! New re makes will be coming soon with overhead camera so more hands free and detailed visual aids

      Go to a hardware store and itll usually be called Mule tape or "pulling tape". Buy however much you need, at my local store it was 15cents a foot, so 100ft was $15. Then go to a crafts store can ask for there poly or nylon dye which is most likey "Rit" brand. Or Walmart, go to the crafts section and they are where the tie dye stuff is, again, usually "Rit" will be the best option. Hope this helps!

    • @MaidenOfTheArts

      4- 21’ stands folded in half and move the center point over 24 inches so that one side is then 48’’ longer than the other side- and start at that new center line letting the longer strands braid the lower sections of the halter OR 2-50’ stands folded in the center will work but you’ll waste so much excess when it’s done and you cut the ends. I’ve done a lot of math to figure out the unbraided amount needed for each braided item! I will be making a new video to visually show what I mean too

      Muletape is one brand but it’s also called bull line or pull tape! Ask your construction friends: electricians and linemen toss 1000s of feet of the stuff in the trash weekly after jobs! Also sometimes construction sites it’ll be laying around when they’re done

    • @MaidenOfTheArts
      @MaidenOfTheArts  3 роки тому +1

      Rit DyeMORE and idye Poly are the two brands of dye you want to use! You have to boil it and stir constantly like a witch over a cauldron for 40-60 minutes usually! Sometimes 30 minutes but the dye has to be boiling before you add the material! You have to use the dyes for synthetic materials so make sure it’s not regular rit dye
